Well, Anatoray still has Last Exile.

Heh, while a little short, I wanted to see more of the Grand Race, more Fam/Gisey/Millia wonderfulness, more Fam making Dyan going tsun-tsun, and Millia finally forgiving Dyan on screen, overall I extremely enjoyed the end.

Spoiler for Fam talking Luscina Down:

Still, overall I enjoyed the series. While there was a couple things that bugged me (mostly Lilliana's and Vasant's deaths and the fact that Sadri chose to basiclly fall on his sword instead of actually connecting with Fam), I enjoyed the plot and the characters, especially Fam, Gisey, and Millia.

Spoiler for More Episodes?:

Overall I think I will give it an 8.9/10.

The pre-air episode, or Episode 0 (the one with the running commentary) is included in the episode count, so technically there are 24 episodes. If there's 3 episode per DVD or BR, then it rounds off enough episodes for 7 volumes.

Yeah, but a navi is responsible for maintaining optiminum engine output and a bunch of other miscellenious tasks; its just as much of a handicap as it is a boon - probably more.

Either way, Dio got screwed over.

I think Ades kept a fleet or two. However, they don't need the 5 or more fleets they had during the war in a time of peace. Most nations seems to have only one main fleet; the Ades had a ton of fleets, each the equal of another nation's main battle-line. The disarmament was probably bringing the Ades down to the same level military-wise as the other nations, to maintain a equilibrium of power.

Yeah. One would also think that the navi thing would be something noticeable ... before the race starts. It might have been a specification thing with his ship. If the source I saw was true, Dio's vanship is about 3x faster than Fam's which makes that finish line image look like he wasn't even hitting its top speed considering Fam was right there too.

But I'm not 100% on the specs-- it was in the booklet for BD volume 3 apparently so I just saw text and no scans. And of course those are hard to get as it is since those are the first edition BDs, so odds of scans popping up are thin. Which is sad. I wish there were more scanners for the content for this series. ;_;

So it ended! Finally today i've watch the eng sub. So what should i write about the serie.

First half of the show was a 9, second half 4.5 together makes 6.75 overall.

The serie actually had everything... very much promising setting with characters, background, drama, mystery but the storywriter of the show should be FIRED. From ep 16 onwards it was a "pain" to watch... if they wanted to ruin the "franchise" of The Last Exile, they have succeeded. The first serie was beautifull with a "perfect!" ending. Fam the silver wing just made it worse... while i personally wish to think that Fam silver wing never happened, but this "crap" did already burned in my memory, and i can't forget it.

So in the end, level 1 Fam defeated level 100 Luscinia with pretty words about the dream of the Grand Race. You know, the one that caused the previous Empress to get murdered, and the one that will bring many people who hate each other together again. However, that is besides that point, since this series is called Fam of the Silver Wing. So whatever Fam says, goes. What's the morale of the story? The Grand Race is key to everything in the world.

As for Sadri, he really did not need to go down with his ship. It's just another way to keep Fam with the pirates, and for Fam to remain as Fam.

Finally, why is Claus in a wheelchair? Of course, only one reason. So that Fam would not be outshined. Almost all returning characters were put to almost useless status in order for Fam to have her "Grand Race" moment. Even Dio outshined Fam everytime he is on screen, so of course, in the final battle, they had to make him injured and sitting on the sidelines.

Also, for all the talk about the Grand Race, we really did not get to see much of that Grand Race. Ah, whatever, I'm not going to think about this anymore. I loved Last Exile series 1 as one of my all time favorites, but this car wreck of series has really ruined the franchise.

QFT

Most retarded ending for an overall mediocre series minus the music. Why couldn't Fam just like, DIE. The episode was so unbearable to watch because it was just Millia and Fam shedding tears while they acted like complete immature idiots that didn't know how to do anything, yet they still came out on top as the winners.

Poor Luscinia...if I lived in a world with idiots like those, I'd want to kill them all too

Makes sense, but I wish there was actually 24 regular episodes.

So now that this is over, it's time to move on. What other shows are you guys looking forward to this Spring season?

Only two for me so far.

Hyouka
Natsuiro no Kiseki

It's pretty weak season for me, there isn't anything that would be top tier for me.

Triple Rook

Greetings.

The sequel to Last Exile might have ended the previous week, but I'm just this one last episode short to complete the sequel excluding the special episode 0 broadcast plus the recap episodes.

I do not wish to be spoiled, since I'm just only one episode to conclude this sequel, and so here are my thoughts for the penultimate episode.

This is how the sequel should have aimed for, if not from the start then, at least, 8 episodes ago. How long I miss those epic air battles, ships engaging fire and lost to the skies of oblivion.

Millia stood out the most in this episode rising to the position of the Sylvius's Commander, and her heart hasn't wavered from al the good and terrible experiences she went through; she knew her responsibilities and took them not for being the last royal heir of Turan but for all the people's around the world gather under the banner of the future.

My joy exploded when Vincent finally arrived with reinforcements from both Anatoray-Dissith alliance and bringing as well the legend amongst warring ships, the Sylvana commanded none other by one of my most missed and strong characters, Sophia.

With the Grand Exile now infiltrated by the vanships units, and Fam & Gisselle reaching the main chamber where Luscinia waits with Sara now let's see how everything will be wrapped for the last episode.

Seeing as how Tatiana ends up winning the Grand Race, I'm not sure why there's so much ranting and raving about how Fam won everything.

I thought that (and Dio having to forfeit his win, even if it made no sense since one would expect they simply wouldn't have let him race to begin with-it's entertainment, let's not fixate on this though), was a great way to end the series.

As for my overall view of the series, I do wish this season's energy was combined with the first season's characters, to spawn a bastard third season that's low on moe while also being faster paced than the sometimes glacial movement of the plot in season one. Not that the plot was better in season two (the opposite really). For all the energy of season two, it's amazing at how little actual plot there was. I kept expecting there to be huge twists in Lusciana's ambitions and what he really wanted, but...nope.

From my perspective, it's difficult to have a happy ending that doesn't come off as trite and cheap, mainly because real life rarely works that way. As I've been watching anime for 20+ years now, I can probably count on one hand the number of endings I've truly enjoyed. Yes, Fam's is not included on that list (though, again, really loved how they ended the Grand Race), but I hardly consider that a black mark against the show. It's also become old hat at how the Japanese seem to think there's nothing abnormal about antagonists and protagonists suddenly becoming best of buds. It's practically part of the very definition of virtually every anime ever made. I may think it alien and other adjectives it's not polite to say, but I've long since come to terms with it and mostly ignore it these days.

I guess if I had to give a grade for the show, I'd give it a B-. I'm also holding out hope that their teasing in regards to Claus' injury might mean we'll see more Last Exile down the road. Not because I'm one of those fans who fawn over Claus and Lavie; in fact, I considered the two the weak links in season one, just as I consider the main protagonists in this season to be the very weak links (though, to be fair, in a head to head match up, I'd probably choose Claus and Lavie over Fam and Giselle, but let's be clear that this is a choice between the lesser of the two evils as far as I'm concerned). But, because I just love the world of Last Exile and would love to see more of it.

I get the complaint about Fam, but Millia? Millia was awesome in this last episode and I don't remember her shedding tears. She commanded the Sylvanus like a boss and she was very mature about the entire ordeal. In fact throughout the whole series she was one of the best developed characters.

What the hell was the point of the whole "Sadri is Fam's grandpa" subplot? It never went anywhere. It didn't even give Sadri a reason to live on. Or, wait... did he decide to die precisely because Fam of all people is his granddaughter? Yes, yes; that makes sense. Even he couldn't stand her.

My guess it's one of those ideas to give Fam significance, but that never got expanded upon because it was just introduced too late, what with less than four episodes to go before the series ended. Had it been done in the first half (where we had all these hints that Fam was actually, you know, important), rather than the pointless Skyship Hunt, it might have added some measure poignancy, but as it is it's yet another wasted opportunity. ^^;

Every season it seems that no matter the quality of the anime, the quality of the ending is almost certainly a crapshoot. For that reason I can't even blame Fam for having a hurried and ridiculously convenient ending that dispelled all the tension built beforehand with a whimper. That said it surely does nothing to help my overall impression of the show.

As a standalone anime, middling at best. By comparison to its predecessor, utterly unworthy.
