Wait, Infinite Stratos is an example of a show that breaks the mold and doesn't rely on fanservice?

You heard wrong, the story is somewhere between nonexistent and horrible. Lovely, lovely girls though; especially Charlotte.

yes, it has. i only skimmed through the last 4 pages and i agree some of us were around 8-16 when we started watching anime and had seen it was different from what was broadcasted on TV besides toonami and adult swim (R.I.P. and before they started broadcasting other shows other than japanese anime).

now that most of us are older, we have grown to be critics, know what we like and don't like than we did in high school, and also see a repetitive formula being used in japanese anime usually involving high school kids in its story and plot. and some of us are quite tired of seeing it. whatever happened to the idea of using college kids, adults in their mid 20s, or etc in the plot?

in my eyes, they don't make manga or anime like they used to. Berserk , Guyver, Claymore, Gantz, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, Legend of Legendary Heroes, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, and others that fall into this category of genres are examples of this in the past 20 years.

and i don't expect much things to change anytime soon in the japanese anime media. *goes back to playing mass effect 2*

Both IS and index are based off of light novels and both are good. Index has a story but u gotta remember everything or ur lost. This upcoming IS arc I hear is gonna be good which u gotta consider what we saw in ep 1 prologue

Well thats a reliever I was expecting a major amount of fanservice + harem infighting the rest of the series.

As do Queen's Blade, Ikkitousen, Tenjou Tenge, and so on; but I bet very few people watch these anime adaptions for the original story, which does not really make it into the shows for a billion reasons.

This link directs to the top favorite anime of one of the best anime bloggers. It's likely that you will find several masterpieces you've never even heard of here, and even revitalize your interest in anime as a whole.

Yes, this is very tough. I recommend placing limitations on how many anime you watch at a time. The best would be to just drop everything but 1 or 2 shows and focus on those until you're done, then proceed with other anime on your to-watch list. You have no idea how refreshing and satisfying this can be!

Yes but index and IS are very popular having index as the number one light novel in japan so far. Its past 3 novels have sold a million copies each.

And this is relevant how? You're literally saying that because something is popular it's automatically good.

no i dont actually think that. Im not really into naruto,yu yu hakusho, bleach, etc. (i like them though)

The one really popular show i like is One piece.

Anyway index and IS are really popular in Japan only really. Its underwatched and underrated outside of it. I've read it and watched it myself so its not that im following what other people think. Im just sayin alot of other people have the same opinion i do.

This doesn't actually have anything to do with the thread topic, i know, but someone said something about the shows and i just felt the need to defend and give my opinion.

That's the type of show that Noitamina was supposed to offer to its target audience of 20+ women. Lately the shows with those types of characters like Tatami Galaxy and House of Five Leaves have not been commanding the audiences that Honey & Clover and Nodame Cantabile racked up in 2006-2007. Perhaps that audience has dwindled over time, or perhaps the shows produced for those viewers have declined in quality. I think it's just as likely that the production committees have decided there's not enough of a market there, especially when the focus is on DVD sales.

Yes , I have found it very very hard to enjoy anime these days

I find it hard to watch the newer Gundam series..
and Season 2 of K-On!!

last 2 titles I've watched were 'Amagami SS' and 'So Ra No Wo To'
and I loved them to death however theres alot of other titles which others are getting boners about which I can't

I think for me , its getting to a point where I wish there was Anime based on things I personally like. eg: with Killzone 3 just released recently , I wish there was an anime of Killzone , maybe from the eyes of a Helghast

and being a massive Busou Shinki fan I wish there was a Busou Shinki anime not this Infinite Stratos rip off

Well, makes sense targeting office ladies and jaded housewives with anime, is equivelant to making gang-rape porn and expect to sell it to feminists

He has several on his top list I've never even seen before. And I feel like I've seen a lot of series during my intense years of fandom (around 100). Thanks for the link, maybe I can find some hidden gems here.

I keep looking for the seinen adaptations which are sorely diminished. Critical hits that were financially successful like Honey&Clover (college setting), Hataraki Man (adult workplace setting), even the recent Otome Yokai Zakuro (historical alternate reality) or Katanagatari (period fantasy) had some complexity and freshness that I don't see in the vast offerings in the last year or two.

I blame the economy for making the producers frightened little kittens but going back to the same dry well is decay. Yes, I'm looking at I.S. as an example of this, if its the first handful of the harem genre you've ever seen it isn't terrible.... but if its the 30th or 40th one you've seen its just a checklist of tropes. Disposable entertainment that I won't spend money on.
