it only has 2 seasons so they are not gonna finish the anime (probably)...
they will left us in the end of the first arc (like Durarara!!) and probably not gonna continue this series unless the ratings and BD/DVD's sales are good.

but well, who knows right?

This is a Dengeki Bunko property, they like making on-going franchises out of their light novels that get turned into anime, just look at Shana, Index, and Oreimo for example. If this is successful it will continue to be adapted, so the point about it not being complete is a bit mute since that's probably one of the reasons they decided to go ahead and do it in the first place.

As for why they chose this over Owari no Chronicle...well...it's Sunrise. Distant future sci-fi are kind of their shtick. Although admittedly this seems to be further out than anything they've ever done, but that's why they're viewing it as a challenge.

Wasn't it confirmed to be a split two-cour show? One this fall season, and another this spring season.

Silly me. :P Even so, Horizon is still light-years ahead of any of Sunrise's works, timeline-wise. Guess we'll see how the show fares. If it goes well, then maybe Owari no Chronicle will be adapted into anime as well...

Errr Gundam? And that's pretty much a cliff notes summary of events too.

Also when it comes to this company in particular I wouldn't worry about their ability to drum up quality original material if need be. They manage to do it fairly frequently after all. Plus if there's anything else they often do quite well it's managing large casts. It's just a matter of having people remain patient in order to see all of them get their place in the storyline that usually ends up being the problem. Usually they'll handle this by releasing teasers and tidbits in various magazines leading up to future episodes in order to give people and idea of what to expect and what characters are going to be central to what arcs.

Owari no Chronicle has one of the most unique heroines in all the light novels/manga/anime I've read/seen, but somehow I don't think otakus would like that uniqueness that much, which is one of the reason why I don't think they would animate it (even though the main guy is very awesome).

There's no breather in Owari no Chronicle, vol1 just jumps right into the story. I still think Sunrise is just testing waters with Horizon, the main reason why OnC isn't as good of a choice.

Also Vol4, Book1 came out today/yesterday (680 pages), and as expected Book2 comes out next month.

EDIT: Oh hey they put up Kazuno's character art

Yeah, I think in the Horizon version of the PV implies the two plates aren't her main weaponry though .

Also according to twitter, seems like they're done with the TV CM, should be an update on the website soon.

Here are random scenes at the work station (guy has a pretty sweet set up), with the top 3 being scenes from the upcoming CM.

I think that's another video, maybe another explanation vid. First one was pretty fun from the tibits I could understand from it, too bad nobody bothered to sub it. With the premiere event at 9/17 and the showing in the three locations (open free entrance I think) 9/23 and 24th, let's hope we have something to chew on all the way until the end of the month and the first airing on the 1st.

What difference does it make? If Sunrise adapt the first two volumes now or in 10 years time. Regardless of what happens if it doesn't sell you won't see the 3rd volume animated. Why wait 10 years for this series to finish and only adapt upto the 2nd volume when you could've done that many years ago when it was more relevant and most importantly push the original source.

If the show is a hit it will be continued, much like KyoAni with Haruhi and SHAFT with the Bakemonogatari series.

Ok premiere event over. Looks like it was a successhuge success ...?

Like hell I understand anything more than just 勝, 良好, 好き, いい etc. so take it for what my words are worth (which is equal to nothing); also, most of these guys are probably novel reading fans, so bias opinions are bias, ok Yaraon said it's good, so it has to be good right and

境界線上のホライゾンBD一巻初回特典として、川上稔氏書き下ろし小説
「境界線上のホライゾン きみとあさまで 1〈上〉」が付属!! また1の上か!

So Kawakami's writing extra for the BR release too, so that's a + for incentive to buying (and looks like more than just one volume).

Man even more wktk now.

EDIT1: Also all types of merchandise are up, a lot of pictures not working atm I don't know why, will update later perhaps (but there are already that cafe event thing that MisaoFan linked, also keyboard, psp casing, iphone case figma etc. also a carry case with the earlier Megami print on it).
EDIT2: Also new 4koma 「境界線上のホラ子さん」 【Kyoukai senjou no Horakosan】(Horako/ホラ子 is Horizon's nickname later on) by Hani Kuraun on December's Dengeki Daimaoh's (I think it's bimonthly, so it's the october issue).
EDIT3: OP on sale 10/19 (ED 11/9 if you forgot), OST 12/21.
EDIT4: Supposedly some of Saito Chiwa (the main's sister)'s lines are edited for the broadcast release, so the uncut version will be available for BR.
Spoiler for slight spoiler:

I was already thinking of buying at least one BR, but after reading this (^) I'm willing to do anything to get enough money to buy all the six BRs.

And finally caught up with the thread in the 2ch (just the anime one) and even some non-novel readers liked what they watched, so I think that's a very good sign. 楽しみだな、おい。

Instead of doing bip on certains Kimi's lines, it's better to change dialogue rather than censoring lines with bip in order to not worry TV viewers.

In addition to what stuopidget wrote, Horizon will also be the first BD-only anime release. The DVD will only be available through rental a month after the BD goes on sale.

Any speculation to why this is the case? I mean sure we're shifting toward BR but why totally just wipe the DVD market? I haven't really keep up with anime sales in general, so do BR sales totally outpace DVD sales these days? I'm curious if this is just they're really confident about the animation or they just feel like consolidating sales to BR to make the sales figure go up or something.

I'm guessing they know the audience for this will be strictly otaku and after seeing how lopsided sales have been for recent otaku series like Steins;Gate it makes no sense to release this on DVD.

Really? I thought that would be more of the Haganai crowd (no offense) for the "base fans"; most people picked up the book and probably tl;dr after skimming the first few parts if anything I think. To me at least, anime-wise, seems like this would be less fanservicey than say ... IS (again no offense, I'm IS fan too), which would mean less strictly otaku targetted.

EDIT: CM kitaaa~~ All action no fanservice
