As someone who by intention did only read volume 1, I'd like to shortly give my 2 cents of worth: I enjoyed *most* parts of volume 1. I'm sure SAO being the first LN I tried played a factor as well, but the setting seemed interesting and I loved Asuna and Kirito's interaction. Anyone who has bothered to read my general posts, knows I'm a huuuge pure romance fan. Anyway even the side chapters were nice as well. So what "killed" my motivation of reading vol. 2+? The grand finale of vol. 1 or to be precise Asuna's fate. Yes, such a simple thing. It's not that the moment was bad drama (back then this self-created term didn't exisit iirc), but it was simply a strong-impacted "WTF"-moment for lack of better words As with people who tend to get annoyed if there are "only" happy endings, it's the oppoite to me.
So when I read some basic information on vol. 2(+) I was just "meh, not interested at all".

I hope this didn't sound too flame-hating. I'm always for the mindset of "If people enjoy this kind of development/story more power to them"as I'm not interested in ruining the mood for others .

There's a Q&A that says something to the effect of

"I was afraid when fighting her that if I were to pull out a second sword, she would just do the same." Other than that, I'm sure if for some reason, they were both fighting to kill each other, Kirito would dual wield, but other than that, it was a test of skill, to test 1H sword against 1H sword in a match where they're on equal footing. Dual wielding would've made the match asymmetrical, and added mitigating factors to loss or victory such as "Dual wielding is just overpowered" or "Maybe she's just not used to fighting against such a style."

Also my friend is trying to wrap his head around Alicization because he says the suspension of disbelief is way too much for it. At the same time the question arose whether the Kirito that we are following in Alicization is the real Kirito or the copy we've heard about. And that he was already in a mentally dead state before he got hooked up into the Underworld.

Very depressing theory.

As for the web novel, try checking some older summaries available in this thread... as for the LN, I assume that the scene will change into:

Of course they went back to their normal lives. They didn't have much choice. They didn't have the strength to rebel against the Church. What they can only do was to pray and hope that Kirito and Eugeo were safe. But good thing is, both of them reappeared later in Chapter 8.

It probably is. But at the second to last chapter of the available Web Novel, it was used by Higa to communicate with Copy!Kirito.

As for personality-wise, I'd assume he'd have the same one as the original one considering that the Higa-copy acted the same before the "big reveal" in Vol. 10
