Ever think, what if?

For the past year or so I've been thinking a lot of "What If" questions. The most common one the occurs in my thought process is "What if I died tomorrow?" and I am quite interested in it. I actually think about it a lot now that I realize it. Not in the sense that I want to die but I think it would be interesting to see what would happen to the world I lived in. How the people around me would react and what would change, or for that matter if anything would change. The weird thing is the more I think about the question, the more I think I wouldn't care if I died tomorrow. Anybody have any input on this or ever think this?

i probably think of a billion "what if-?" situations before brushing my teeth at night

it's probably normal, though, i kinda feel like a character in some novel because of how much thinking i do

you know the "clear your mind" thing? yeah, never happens to me

Not a single person has gone thorugh a lifetime without any "what if" type of thinking. It's a natural thing to ask.

Thinking "what if" is intellectual, but practically it serves little or no purpose because it looks towards the past. There is no system restore in life to roll back time.

Everybody has regrets or fears, it's perfectly natural to have "what if" kinda questions tumble through your head. Just don't let it get too distracting, or you'll forget to live for the moment. Carpe diem XD

No seriously... if no one ever thought what if, the world could still be in the stone age. Because the cavemen didn't think "uug hu hu rugh mm mm" translation "what if me strike that with this?" Or "oo oo fire keep me warm"

That's generally called being a robotic being... i.e. lack of free will *immediately jumps off of that landmine*

also, the instant I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought of one of The Time Machine movies

my brain is a constant mix of "what if I had" and "what if I do"
why is it so hard to just live in the present?
but yeah, I'm in a point in my life where the whole rest of my life really rests in the balance. Where every test could make or break my GPA, which of course means being allowed to continue your education later, or not. It's super stressful, and the best way to get through it is to have a plan "B" and "C" and "D"

edit: I think one of my favorite anime quotes (Temna from School Rumble) applies to this topic "It's better to do something now and regret it later, than to regret not doing it at all"

You could argue the brain's purpose is to continually calculate the "what if" so you don't run into walls or stand in front of a tiger waving your tasty parts at it.

I always wonder "what if" when using an if statement.

So does the compiler!

How much are you willing to pay to have that particular 'what if' confirmed?

You wouldn't know because you'd be dead. By the same token, you wouldn't care about anything. As for how it would affect people around you, it would mostly affect your close family and school/neighbourhood friends, but nothing more. Humans become surprisingly insignificant proportionally to the distance (physical and other) that separates them.
