anime with an exchange student

hey, I'm looking for an anime (or manga, but preferably anime) that features an exchange student (either American in Japan, or Japanese in America) and mostly revolves around them trying to fit in, and learn the new life. Comedy would be good
thanks in advance

I vaguely remember the manga version of Midori Days having an American exchange student, and the series itself is all around a great read. Can't speak for the anime adaptation, though.

I can't think of anything.

A couple episodes of Ichigo Mashimaro features a British girl (who's lived all her life in Japan) pretending to be a foreigner who can't speak English (she's a transfer student)... which is pretty hilarious. Only vaguely related to your request though.

I saw Ichigo marshmallow, but I'm looking for an anime where one of the main story lines in about this exchange student character, not just a secondary character or plot line.
more details: looking preferably for highschool/junior high, though younger would do. Could be either boy or girl

Closest I can think given the important character parameter is Prince of Tennis; Echizen is from America as far as I recall, although he's a native Japanese and spent most of his life there. If that doesn't fit the bill, and Midori Days didn't, then I'm at a loss.

If you don't mind seeing a Japanese exchange student in Europe, you may try watching Gosick.

In Marmalade Boy the main male character goes to the USA to study whereas an american student goes to Japan and lives in his house.

Only thing I can think of is Kate from Sketchbook ~ Full Colour's

She isn't the focus of the story but it's too good to pass up no matter what.

Nodame Cantabile Paris-hen

The main character transfers to Paris and has a few problems adapting to the new life. That's not the main focus of the story but there are a few funny moments like when she has an argument with her french friend who following the "bon ton" rules says she mustn't make any sound when eating soups while she, according to the japanese culture, thinks she must make a lot of loud slurps in order to show her appreciation of the food.

Note however that you need to watch the first season first. But still Nodame Cantabile is an anime that I would recommend to anyone.
