On the (now removed) site that the guy linked to, the blog post author mentioned Sasaki had a laugh that was written as "kukuku."

Is there any articulation of those letters that mimics a laugh but DOESN'T sound like the person is choking?

That's... a pretty standard anime laugh. You do realize that, right?

Have you seen Yumekui Merry, at least the beginning of it?
It's the same laugh John Doe has. Not a good comparison, but whatever

Nope. I don't read a lot of anime.

Quick note that might be of interest on this forum:

The genderbending Koizumi idea Kyon thinks about in beta-10 was from Tanigawa. That wasn't inserted by the translator.

That lack-of-common-anime-knowledge author would be me. My guess was it's probably just some kind of 'hehehe'. Watching the first few minutes of Yumekui Merry the cat laughed once that I consider more as a 'hehehe' than a 'kukuku'. Maybe 'kukuku' is the evil version of 'hehehe'?

I don't think anyone doubted the correctness of that. It would be too random of an insert. I've no idea why Yasumi resembled Itsuki in Kyon's eyes in that scene.

Check a few episodes in (or maybe even the first episode), the laugh of John Doe (cat leader) is "kukuku" in the manga, and IIRC it was like this in the anime, too.

I think he said that Yasumi doesn't?

It's in reference to the other Brigade members. Since the others are girls, it makes sense that Kyon would compare her to them, but a genderbent Koizumi is the first thing that comes to mind for him. It's curious why that's the first things that pops in Kyon's head unless...

And also I brought that up to emphasize that it's not just the fact that the translator for that chapter is a Koizumi fan and works with the Genderbending project. That part was really in the novel.

My bad. I failed to notice that the meaning of the new appended translation totally differs from the one I still have stuck in my head. Guess the disturbingness (if that is a word) of Kyon's thought really dug in well. Just like the moment Itsuki just had to suggest the Adam and Eve thing again. Talking about awkward statements, Sasaki doesn't lose too many points with her talk about passing down DNA. I was disturbingly remembered of Safu from NO.6.

It's been well over a year since I posted in here.

So, I'm now in the epilogue and I've got quite a few questions on what happened. Mostly relationship-related, but whatever.

1. Kunikida likes Tsuruya right? Or does he like Sasaki?
2. Was beta-Yuki sick because of Kuyoh? Or was it because of a different reason altogether?
3. Can Koizumi harm normal people with his esper powers? By the way, I really liked him in the 11th novel. He was so badass.
4. What was that time-slip that happened? Why did Kyon right after he landed on the Celestial get into college-Haruhi's timeplane? Some kind of slip?
5. If Kyon has another time-traveling obligation to do, then how come he never time-traveled back in time when he was 'supposedly' pushed by an unknown individual down the stairs when the SOS-Dan was buying xmas decors or something?
6. Is Sasaki playing the 'forever-alone' card? I think she should have been more aggressive in pursuing Kyon.
7. What was the point of sending Kyon a month ahead to the anniversary? Is Mikuru trolling his head or something? I can imagine the scene in the anime now. It'll be drawn out with romantic atmosphere in full force and dramatic music playing.
8. Is Koizumi slowly breaking down? He's slowly unraveling I think.
9. Yasumi is Haruhi right? Or Haruhi's consciousness personified? Or a slider? I don't get it.
10. Is Koizumi really the leader of the Organization? Does that mean him being one of the lowest members was a lie?
11. In Fujiwara's time plane, is it a possibility that Mikuru died? So then why did Mikuru big say that she didn't have a brother? Is the brother not bound by blood or something? I mean, in the time-traveler's logic, no one person can exist without another version of himself/herself in another time plane.

I think that's all for now. Sorry for the bother.

He likes Tsuruya, but in a way that seems to be a form of hero worship.

She's not romantically interested in him. That's kind of the point.

As for your other questions, we don't know. Seriously, why would you think that we'd know?

Like Kyon does with Yuki? Something like that?

I'm getting vibes that when Sasaki told Kyon that she was trying to talk about her love life, she wanted to get back to what they were back in middle school, to start over once again since she kind of regretted what she did back then at Rainy Days. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Since this is kind of the only place I can get credible answers without much trolling.

1) He certainly hasn't expressed to like Sasaki. As for Tsuruya, it's debatable if he likes her romantically or not.
2) Not directly. She volunteered to attempt to contact Canopy Domain as a whole, not only Kuyou in particular. Because of her circuits overheating like a non-NASA computer playing Crysis, she got a fever.
3) Probably. Whether he blew up Fujiwara is debatable.
4) No idea, pre-determined event? Haruhi unconsciously wanted Kyon to work towards something. Flashing the (pre-determined) future would make him work towards it. Of course, it was probably Yasumi who created the time-slip.
5) That's concerning Disappearance. After fixing the world, Yuki created that story. It's probably all true though; Kyon really got pushed down the stairs and lost consciousness, so there's no need for him to go back in time.
6) Whether Sasaki really likes Kyon romantically is debatable.
7) Pre-determined event. There's probably a reason he needs to be there to give the right present to Haruhi
8) Despite giving the time-travelers and aliens a good scold, he still seems his own smirking self to me.
9) Yasumi is not Haruhi directly. She's just a person created by Haruhi that has the same powers as herself to create the alpha-timeline. For some reason it was needed to gather the right people in the club room in the Final Chapter.
10) I think that was a debate a few pages back, so it's still up in the air.
11) I think it's too early to speculate anything about what happened to Mikuru and Fujiwara's timeplane. Itsuki's explanation in the Epilogue is not very satisfactory.

First off, many thanks to everyone who worked on this.

Second, I managed to read both parts yesterday (and boy is that a lot of reading for me...).

I certainly didn't expect the ending the way it was, and I'm kind of sad that they aren't going to get a new brigade member. There are a couple questions I have:

1. Why did Fujiwara need Kyon's permission to transfer power to Sasaki? I might have missed it, but it seemed like he could order Kuyou to do it at any time (or really Kuyou could do it if she so wanted to).
2. So if Yasumi found the Mikuru folder, does this lend to the belief that Haruhi knows that it exists? I know they are not the same person, but it's just something I was thinking about.

Also, about the glimpse of the future Kyon saw, is there any general belief about when (how far into the future) that takes place? Kyon wasn't sure, but it seemed like his future self was with Haruhi at that time. I got the impression it was some time after graduation and, based on Haruhi's attire, they were attending some sort of festival at their old school.

I don't have much comment on the main story arc itself. There was a lot of talking so most of it either didn't settle in my memory or just went over my head lol. It's good to have Haruhi back, though, and hopefully Tanigawa has more in store in the near future.

1) Fujiwara's original plan was to solve it peacefully. Kyon could help him make the power transfer without Kuyou doing it or killing Haruhi. His plan was to force Kyon into a decision in that class room.
2) Probably not, at least there's no reason to believe Haruhi now knows the existence of the folder.

The future Kyon saw was Kyon and Haruhi in college. Kyon described the uniforms and surroundings to resemble those of a college. Thus, it's at least two years in the future.

OK, thanks for the reply. Maybe I just read the 'future' part wrong then (mainly about how they were dressed). It'll be interesting to see how much longer the story will continue since we now know they do go to college together. At least Haruhi's tutoring won't go to waste!

And I think I realized why I didn't like Surprise Part 1 as much as. I tend to forget it's really the middle book of the story arc and so it's basically just the bridge between Dissociation (where everything starts going crazy) and Surprise Part 2 (where everything comes to a crazy end). It doesn't have anything really "big" happen imo. I think it's a good thing Tanigawa released both books at once, in this respect, since I think just that one alone would've been a little disappointing after all this time of waiting.

Rofl'd at Kyon telling Haruhi he forgot his porn magazine.

I was more surprised at Haruhi just accepting that.
