...Why do I have to be whipped by my own work? Isn't this taking things a bit too far?...

Tinkle came to mind when I saw this drawing at first glance, whose works are known to be heavily hued. For some reason many Patchouli drawings tend to turn out that way...

The two big styles I've noticed is that sort of brush heavy work, and the clean cut lines of say Inugami Kira. Both of which are still sadly far away for me.

This one was meant for SH, until of course I realised I had no idea what I was doing. I also didn't get the whole Hanakana thing until yesterday. Trend? What trend?

With coloring, instead of jumping in head deep into aiming for that water-colored/complicated, Kishida Mel/Akinashi Yuu style, try go for something much easier to figure out first. Illustrations by animators such as Atsushi Nishigori are quite good in this regard, while for me Muririn/Kobuichi's drawings for Yuzusoft really helped me with hair shading and choices in color palette.

That said, I really dislike putting all the time into drawing frilly stuff on clothes. Is this drawing for the Ane one or the one that doesn't really sound like a LN title?

I don't acknowledge the existence of the other one. Wait, what other one?

Anyway been ages, amazing how quickly you get rusty..placeholder until I have time to actually make a proper effort.

I'll be waiting for your drawing of Shimakaze in her trademark attire.

Are you feeling nervous about drawing feet? Don't think. Just do.

I..finally managed to get hands to look non-mutated. Feet can wait. We have shoes for a reason anyway.

Also, you haven't updated lately. Been busy?

Alright, why not?

- At that angle, I think her left eye is too small compared to her right.
- I recommend having the neck lines mostly straight. You started curving the lines outwards too early.
- Try to imagine her with her clothes off. Does she look too skinny?
- I also recommend bigger/more distinct hips.
- Shadows. You're not doing enough to let us know:
the shirt is tucked into the skirt
her right hand is on her waist. As it is it looks like her hand isn't holding on to anything.
Her hair on our left side is actually behind her side bangs.

Like always, I recommend finding an illustrator you like and try to copy how they draw. Pay special attention to sizes of body parts relative to one another. And that clothing should be soft and loose, draping over the body instead of being another layer of skin. Consult anime tutorial books or Pixiv tutorials. Lastly, continue to have fun drawing. Being stuck in that limbo where you're clearly not a novice but you feel you're still a while away from drawing like a pro is frustrating.

And yes, I've been busy. Exams. May post something next week.

I dunno. I don't lack references and most of them feel like they'd be within reach, but whatever I come up with just seems to fall short. Is it a thing where you critique your own work more harshly since you're so much more familiar with it?

In any case, that time of year again.

I think you're slowly improving. The brush work here is much better compared to the previous Patchouli.

If you feel the current pen size for your lineart isn't giving you as much control as you want, try making it thicker? A thicker sized pen should be easier to draw with and will give your lines more size variety, which gives your drawing more depth.

I think I've realised my problem, I can't actually apply any of the references I use to visualise different views. Tried a thicker pen, just ended up going back and erasing most of the line again. Brushwork as hit and miss as ever. Still haven't decided on a direction yet either. I just don't know how you do it.
