Just got back from watching this movie at the IFFR... it is very funny yet can be quite serious at times too. Some of the elements are just hilarious when put in a live action movie: such as when Phoenix asks a dumb question and everyone in the courtroom falls of his chair or when he puts "Polly" in the witness stand. Other weird bits are the hairstyles (as you can see from the trailer) and the large amount of "anime like characters" in the courtroom (all kinds of hair colors; weird oversize ribbons; awkward clothing etc).
There are quite a few changes from the game, mainly that most of the movie revolves around the main DL-6 incident case where Phoenix has to defend Miles Edgeworth, which means earlier cases from the game are shown only very very briefly (such as the first case where Phoenix defends Larry Butz and the Steel Samurai case). Some things are also changed completely: the murder from the DL-6 incident that took 15 years ago no longer takes place in a lift but in the evidence storage room. Also, the translator who did the subtitles used the English names throughout. That's a little confusing as some names are quite different (Phoenix Wright is "Ryuuichi Naruhodo" in the Japanese version for example), but may also be easier for those who played the game. |

Phoenix Wright Movie: Has anyone watched it?
just watched it today. I think anyone whose ever played any of the games should totally watch it. So far the general consensus is that its the best video game movie ever made (accounting for the fact the bar is set pretty low), but still! While I don't watch a lot of video game movies, I really enjoyed it. The movie really stuck close to the source material from the characters, the costumes, the storyline, etc. I highly recommand it.
If anyone else has watched it, please speak up! I'm dying to chat about it seeing how non of my friends have watched it yet. Also, there's this one plot hole I'm dying to discuss... |

I did... forgot about it though, lol.
There are subs around somewhere on the net if you search hard enough, but it wasn't too bad. I need to work on my legal Japanese jargon more though ;_; I'd need to watch it again to remember everything though...
