No, they really aren't the same. The boys want to work hard and win. The girls just want to have fun and play around. I'm not saying it's wrong to want to have fun (in fact, I just don't get why people get worked up about sport), but the mindsets really aren't the same.

Then again, as good the pink girl may be, I still find it odd for the boys team who managed to win the regional tournament were beaten singlehandledly by the pink girl. And for a girls team fighting a well trained boys team? I guess thats anime logic for you where moe beats reality and common sense.
I don't think she beat the actual boy basket team. Just the boys in her class.

I mean, come on, if you're that smart of a player, you know that the only way to beat somebody who doesn't jump as a handicap is to settle for the jump shot.

But Tomoka didn't take a jump shot when it isn't necessary not to. That reminds me of Luol Deng not stealing the ball while Jarrett Jack holds the ball on one hand while tying his shoe on the other hand.
Yeah, noble and stupid kind of line up at times. Can respect her decision not to use the jump shot even though it cost her winning that particular matchup.

That competition was nice to see though. In this case they have a coach who seriously can play and is really good in his own right. Gives you more respect for Subaru. Though while I'm sure the girls team will turn out to be pretty good by the end I do hope he gets his chance to really get back to playing himself.

I find this show really heartwarming haha XD

Episode 2 was really well done, I enjoyed the "bonding" time with Tomoka and Subaru

Not a bad 2nd episode, the lack of fanservice was completely desirable. Though what's with the outfits?

I really wish they weren't lolis, would make it easier to take seriously. Also Kana Hanazawa seems to get to voice a lot of overpowered characters, doesn't she, sinking those baskets like nothing.

So Subaru starts the episode with a bunch of emo little preteens complaining that the girls lack passion in basketball. Damn these girls for not taking basketball seriously enough! They're just having fun! RAWR.

Oh but angsty Subaru tells them that he doesn't care at all about coaching them. Plus, how could the girls beat them anyways?

Oh yeah though, the story would just end here of course, so lets begin Subaru's life journey to finding enough care to coach the loli bball team. He shoots 10 free throws in a row, and not only makes it in but swishes them all too. Dude should join the NBA.

Oh and of course he runs into pink haired Hana voiced loli on the way home. Then he takes her home ............... Lolicon? OK maybe not .

Then comes the intense 1 on 1 bball. An impressive loli, but fortunately, she's dealing with the future NBA star Subaru who can swish any shot he takes without even really being focused. Man guy's too talented, let alone more physically imposing than her. Of course it was a mismatch.

Subaru then finds it deep within his soul to have sympathy for the loli and her life, and makes the loli cry. Damn, he hasn't even wrecked her life yet by...

Ok in all seriousness, the episode wasn't bad. It is however a bit hard to swallow and take the drama seriously due to the girls being well... 6th grade lolis. Could've been more interesting to see this if the girls were a bit older.

Spoiler for So how will Subaru fare in the NBA Draft?:

Nah, just kidding.

For the nth time (huh?), her name is Tomoka Minato, man.

So do we expect a 14-year-old high schooler/future NBA Hall of Famer to teach a bunch of 12-14 year old middle school girls?
I mean, hey, that's around the same age as him.

I can take the drama, though, but that's me. IMO, Subaru is just trying to be a mentor figure to Tomoka.

Spoiler for :

It's just that the idea is screwed by the lot of event flags people are seeing in the last episode.

Just as I thought: That evil old buzzard is all bark and no bite; too much masturbation to his own RAPE novels to actually have the strength to practice what he preaches, no doubt.

Ah well. I find it amusing the NBA gets locked out, and now someone wants to lockout the loli's from playing ball. Nobody locks out the lolis!
I actually had a girl classmate back in the 6th grade who was 180 Centimeters (6 foot for all you Yankees out there), much like how Sigourney Weaver was when she was 12. She literally dunked all the guys off the court until year 10 (First Year Senior)!!

Who else is looking forward to Airi-chan performing Slam-Dunks when her skill improves? I'll gladly pay Blu-Ray money for that!!

Hey, you just gave me an idea to make a music video of "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" from Bill and Teds Bogus Journey to this series once enough episodes have been released.

I agree with Anh_Minh there. Nothing would have really changed if the girls were older. Also my heart wasn't ready for the crying scene....

Visuals matter a lot, due to character designs. Plus the fanservice becomes a bit worse; a lot of us aren't into DFCs.

As far as I'm concerned, it's comedy, not porn, so I don't care.

Umm, cool?

I don't think visuals need to be sufficient in just fap material, aesthetics always matters to me.

Sure. I'd be with you if they were badly drawn or something. But they're kids, who (with the usual artistic conventions of anime) look like cute kids.

And story-wise (which is what I originally commented on), their age makes sense.

So what's the problem?

Hmm. Now that you put it out like that, it does make sense. Well I still like the anime regardless if they make the characters older or not. While the story portrays them as they are in sixth grade after all.

It makes all the fanservice segments worse, which plagued episode 1 and maybe beyond. Coincidentally, episode 2 lacked it and it was better.

Of course, you don't care and I and others do, so there's nothing more to talk about.

Making ten free-throws in a row is pretty do-able, especially for someone who diligently trains at it. Most if not all the NBA dudes would be able to make 10 in a row while they sleep, easy.
The only beef i have with this scene is despite his discontent in his form, the show never actually properly depicts it and instead does the exact opposite. i.e they make him swish everything because it's easier to animate... It's inconsistent and signals to me that the animation team doesn't know much about basketball at all or they were just lazy. Atleast show him hitting the rim or getting unintentional banks or losing balance due to bad feet positioning or something... =/ Shit man, if you're swishing everything you probably ain't doing much wrong at all man

This may be the most loli show I've seen in a long time. And I sort of worry about the main character. I mean, people at school are distancing themselves from the basketball team and treating them like their disappeared, allegedly pedophilic captain. Now this guy is teaching a bunch of grade school girls, some of whom have some unusual ideas. And what does he do? He takes a girl home with him, and even lets her use the shower. What really caught my attention was that the girl thinks that she's doing something improper simply by riding behind him on his bike. Depending on what she says and who to, this kind of sequence of events could look very, very bad, particularly when rumors are already spreading by association. I get the feeling at some point someone's going to make accusations.

I think I'd support the girls' team here. They don't just want to have fun, they want to really play the game and do well. They're willing to give their all to win their right to have fun. Not to mention, they're grade schoolers. I can see wanting to improve oneself, but there should be more freedom with kids who haven't even hit their growth spurt. They can talk about people not taking the game seriously when their voices start to crack. Not to mention giving in to the guys here would just encourage their budding male chauvinistic attitude that still seems to present girls as "just playing" in some sports, at least in some places. What would be really bad is if the boys were to hear some of the rumors, since they're young and could make stupid, rash decisions.
