@FlareKnight — don't you find it strange how many nice things are happening that involve her. I'm afraid they might do something stupid...

They're just hard to make out, you have to read each letter one by one almost. Turning the text 90 degrees is much more effecient and easier. But anyway...

Something interesting that I found out today. Reading a book for history class today, they mentioned "tsutsugamushibyo" -- a typhus-type disease from a chigger bug called a tsutsuga bug.

Hence -- Tsutsugami Gai -- chigger bug god? Aka biting at the occupying GHQ forces.

And of course I mentioned earlier Ouma Shu could be related to genetics. I remember in Vandread they said the one parent in the all-female society was called the Ouma. Which would fit with the Void Genome stuff, but I'm not sure about this connection.

@JediNight — not following the Vandred reference (I watched it BTW)

That is definitely interesting. It once again follows along the line of viruses and diseases, which are heavily themed in this series. It could also reference how he will infect others, maybe even in the Undertakers.

For Vandread, I have always thought that the word Ouma was in reference to the Korean word for mom. After researching it, there is also a definition of it being a grandmother or elderly woman in the South African language.

Are you suggesting that Shu is entirely created from his mom and without a father?

Well everyone is created entirely by their mom. The father's only "help", they're not required for child birth, lol.

The whole "with out a father" is only dramatic in the context of Vandred. In the real world, or GC world, it's not like you have to be married or anything to get pregnant. There are, you know, less elegant means; which don't involve no sci-fi mumbo jumbo.

Ok,the picture of Ayase is just beautiful.
Any way,the more I think about it the more I'm curious to see how the situation will develop from now on.
Especially after the events of episode 5, I mean Shu have literally lost his motivation to be there (or rather the only person he thought could be trusted).
Another thing I'm really curious to see how Shu will react when he finally remember his past, since it seems he starting to remember those memories, and of course I wonder what really happened during that time.

And one last thing, I remember reading somewhere that from episode 5 onward, this anime would have more Seinen elements so I am sure that the op will change from episode 6 onward.
And I must say I am very curious to see what kind of op will be.

And what are usually considered "senin" elements?

felix@ Sorry now I noticed that Imisspelled the word
I mean Seinen elements.

Or rather that from episode 5 onwards would have more elements that are in that category.
I must admit I'm curious to see how far they push in these 22 episodes.

From the glimpses of images we see in his flashbacks, it looks like it is very possible that something happened during the Lost Christmas event that occurred 10 years earlier, which involved the 3, Shu, Gai, and Inori-look-alike. I guess they were really close, but the Lost Christmas event probably made Shu forget about the other 2 due to a traumatic event, probably seeing Inori-look-alike die and Gai being maimed or something.

Then again, Shu could be a product of genetic manipulation as well. We are just not sure yet.

On the topic of Shu pulling a void out of himself. Isn't there a require to look in the eyes of the dude you are pulling out of? And the person who you are pulling the void from is more important than the puller of the void. Can you give yourself the feeling that you get when someone else stares directly into your eyes to yourself? I might not be normal, but someone else staring into my eyes vs me staring into a mirror staring back at me isn't the same feeling, thus no pulling void out of self.

And the main advantage of remote-controlled war machines (like the Predator drone I mentioned before) is that the operator is safe from harm. Making the pilot experience pain seems counterproductive
Its counterproductive for a real fighting machine, but this a fictional anime series that has already shown itself to have little interest in realism. I personally think operators experiencing pain adds drama and tension and generally makes the scenes better if I don't think about it too much.

Though I can make a realism argument for some pain (certainly not the level that was being dealt though). I think giving some pain would improve response time to the source of pain. If you accidentally touch a really hot object out of the microwave, you pull back immediately. If I get attacked as a scoped sniper in TF2, I generally don't realize I'm being attacked until its too late despite the obvious UI elements telling me I'm about to die. To relate this to operating vehicles, airplanes have crashed since the pilot and co-pilot failed to notice lights telling them that something is extremely wrong until it was too late, possibly not at all.

About Shinkai movies. I think it specifically panders to people who have had really close relationships that fell apart due to distance despite attempts to remain together.

Hence why I don't like it... the protagonist should be the most motivated idiot there.
That isn't an issue with Guilty Crown being terribly written, its an issue with you not liking a concept. Beyond the fact that you seem to like the ridiculous stereotypical shounen hero, is there any reason why Shu should be a badly written pathetic hero, or a badly written motivated hero?

For what it's worth I agree with you.

More like: it's terribly written for my tastes. And I never claimed anything more then that. ie. others not licking it or anything

I would emphasizing how I'm just expressing my own opinion only, but aside from being redundant, it tends to come off as very flaimbait-ish, and we're not in flame season, so...

On the other hand though, you licking it doesn't mean me and others have to, or that it's well written. That's debatable, and meta-arguments won't get you anywhere. IMO, there's nothing wrong with licking something that's average, badly written, etc (speaking in general).

Because by being so down he's pulling the entire series down?

It's like this, the setting, characters, world, antagonists, politics, etc etc, all scream: anger, courageous, fighting, sci-fi, synergy, teamwork, the big picture/the future. But Shu's character speaks the exact opposite: angst, cawardly, pacifist, normal/average, solitude, self, now/here. His traits aren't wrong for a characters, they're wrong in context. I always feel like Shu and characters like him are just in the wrong series. The hero starting weak is nothing bad, but there's a difference between "weak" and "completely against what the series wants him to be".

Also, with the totally cliche heroes it makes sense they achive something, since they are TRYING afterall. With characters like Shu if anything happens it's because (a) the series pulled plot-huricane out of it's ass and magically teleported him to important-land (b) he has the plot-shield and autowin-sausege (c) there is this completely unrelated series of events/plot that basically take his hand and swings the all powerful sausege of doom for him. It's kind of hard to cheer for a hero who (up till now) has saved the day by accident or for alternative/selfish reasons and doesn't even symphathize with the side he's on—well more like he doesn't even care, which is worse.

felix@I think you're a little too harsh against Shu.
From what we know about about Shu personality it seems to me that the anime is showing perfectly his reactions.
I am sure that anyone in his place with the same personality has his would react in his same way.
And frankly I find Shu very realistic seeing the personality he has.
And if you think about it , the same Shu said its own flaws .
The thing that worries me is if he ever will trust someone else after what happen in episode 5 with Inori she just make Shu trusting issue even bigger.
will be very interesting to see how Shu will overcome these trusting issue (and who will help him to do so) and as he will develop as a person.

Well, it's gonna ruin everyone's dreams if Inori happens to have that to be pulled out of her.

I'm getting tired of people hating the show, throwing crap and trying to pass it as valid complains while saying "hahaha, this show stinks."

"Because by being so down he's pulling the entire series down?"

Its like saying "I won't feel suicidal if you ruin my life and tricked me by using women". Shuu had it rough. He likes Inori genuinely. He doesn't like fighting. He's definitely NOT a shounen hero: He's just some dude who accidentally got power.

Like I was saying in Randomc, he has no obligation whatsoever to join Gai and the FP, unless it concerns Inori.

"...there's a difference between "weak" and "completely against what the series wants him to be."

And he's the "completely against what the series wants him to be?" Nope. Its actually part of the plot that he's completely against being your "typical shounen hero". The series wants him to be that way. See Shuu had a life before Gai and Inori turned up. Without them, Shuu would still friends with Sugar, would not be a convict, and would still be a normal guy.

Can't wait for ep 6 wonder what his reaction will be. Considering all of that Inori rejecting him then going to other mans room at night theres only 1 thing that could come to his mind, especially after all the info he got from that wheelchair girl. And it seems that GC is released on saturday right?

The next episode is available in a few hours, since it usually airs on Thursdays in Japan. So your wait will be over quite soon. PM me if you need further info.

Edit:

Chaos2Frozen beat me to it.
