Warner Bros. Totally Screwed Up The Marketing For 'Pacific Rim':

"CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment Jeff Gomez tells Business Insider that in
Hollywood's eyes del Toro's monster epic was always going to be a tough sell because
it wasn't based on anything.

However, he doesn't agree with that. Instead, he sees the problem with "Pacific Rim"
as something much simpler: the film's marketing strategy."

the prequel comic should have been release early in the year instead of just before the movie release.

The marketing did get screwed up.

I knew nothing about this movie until like a few months ago. Even when I found out about it some of you knew that I made posts about how i didn't even see ANY trailers at all when watching Man of Steel or Iron man.

And when I went to watch it in IMAX there was NOTHING there. Usually when they premiere say, "Man of Steel" they'll have a big 3D poster showcasing it. Here for Pacific Rim they had nothing at all. It was only in the final week or so that they started pumping out trailers and such but again you need time and focus on the human elements.

Though I wonder now that the critics have come in and gave thumbs up to the film if word of mouth will spread and the movie will keep on going.

Watched the movie yesterday and the place was nearly empty, although my friends claim to have been different at other theaters.

If it weren't for this thread, I would not have learned about the movie until the very last month before release.

Hopefully the fact that Pacific Rim got some rather lackluster marketing is something people remember when it comes time to decide if they'll do a second movie.

Well it's doing great internationally, and it hasn't even been shown in the places that would rake in the cash, like China and JAPAN. People only call it a "flop" because they only look at US sales, not realizing that there's more to the world than just the United States.

I'm still new to all this, but apparently US sales matters alot more than International for some reason? At least thats the impression I'm getting from all these articles....

It was quite empty for my (rather large and popular) theatre today and Sunday night. The outlook on sales look grim, if I were to base it solely on this.

It's different here in my place, where the IMAX waiting lounge was packed when I passed by it yesterday. Though yeah, different places have different audience density obviously.

Sorry if this has been said but what is that 'jet engine nozzle' on GD's chest for? We've seen it use to right itself during it's fall and to burn the class 5 but what is it? A weapon or an exhaust for it's nuclear reactor?

Also, Oppai missile?

Mahoro already answered this question in Mahoromatric 2. (episode 3 I believe)

BREAST MISSILE!

I believe it's an exhaust vent. It pulled off BREAST FIRE quite nicely though.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a heat exhaust for the reactor that can exhaust MUCH more heat than is strictly required.

Aren't you living in Asia though?

We know for certain that audiences in Asia will take in this movie no problem.

The issue is the western audiences.
