Nah, it's just laziness and no it's not his trademark artstyle to gimp on details since we've seen how well and detailed his art can get when he actually tries. Another mangaka that notorious known for his laziness is Hagiwara (Bastard!!) who would sent in literally scribbles of unfinished pages with texts of apologies in them.

Kubo has no backgrounds at all
He was lazy enough not to draw a beautiful sunshine that characters were talking about!

Who I think is a very hardworking mangaka is Mashima Hiro. Story tends to lack but his art is always very detailed. A balsam for my eyes to look at^^

im not sure thats laziness, im not sure, but judging from some chapters i would say togashi doesn't have any assitants, because there are lazy authirs like miura who probably has been in a slumber longer than togashi, but when he work, its pure art that comes down, though he seem to have a "studio" helping him.

Well, it makes sense with the roles she gets and how much she strains her voice sometimes.

Still, shouldn't they already have a bunch of episodes recorded in advance? I imagine we'll still hear her as Pakunoda for a while more.

Just watch episode 47, it was a good episode, but I still prefer the old version. Kurapika's new seiyuu is very bad for me, there is no power in his voice. It looks like a seiyuu who read his text, only that. When I heard his seiyuu in the previous version, Kurapika sounds so angry, so powerful, so "I'll kill you scum!".

Spoiler:

Go watch the famous episode 56 of the old version...

the episode was very good, the figth scene i still prefer the old verion one but by no means this one was bad, but the events of the battle get better exposition in the new version, and after he captured uvongin this version did get better than the old one, hell, the part where kurapica torture uvongin for information is more violent than in the manga, also akio otsuka and miyuki sawashiro made this more enjoyable.

I may be a bit biased since Sawashiro is my favorite voice actor ever, but I'm pretty sure she's going for an understated, more subtle performance. Whether that succeeds or not is a different question, but honestly "power" is the last thing I'd expect out of Kurapika's voice in this scene. The whole episode feels like he's one step away from breaking down.

Which I believe is exactly what she was going for, and I think Togashi would approve of that.

this weeks episode is great, so much intense action and the revelation that Kurapika becomes a specialist once his eyes are red is cool, so long Uvogin the brutality of your death will be a reminder that killing is that horrible

So being 100% enhancer + strong physical base = not over powered at all.

and its confirm.. the hunterpidia does it runs base on people who are about to die or dead* XD

Like the old version better, but the new one had more explanation done, especially by Uvogin

That Sawashiro is not my favorite voice actor, so i'm not biased , and I don't like her work at all.

When I read the manga, Kurapika looks angry and it's normal. Because a member of Phantom troup is front of him.

I wanted to say that the previous seiyuu did a powerful peformance.

Spoiler:

The seiyuu was too bad in my opinion. No emotion in his voice.

I preferred the old version, but I got the same feeling that they were going for a different approach this time round.

The old version had Kurapika's acting literally like an avatar of vengeance. Deathly cold, yet clearly simmered with an indescribable hate and anger. It was excellent in the way that you could feel cracks of emotion pouring out of the ice-wall that Kurapika had built around himself only on occasional moments, but aside from those moments where he let himself become vulnerable and riled up, he was cold as ice.

On the other hand, Kurapika's emotions were clearly on a more vocal and less-repressed display this time round. The way he's animated adds to that, but also in the few scenes in which Kurapika allows himself be rooted away from rationality. Like when he punched Uvo on the table. He clearly allowed his emotions to get the better of him there, while the older version and the manga, as I could recall, had him acting on that in a much more cold fashion, more of a 'you're scum', with very little sense that Kurapika cared about the comrades.

I think Clarste put it best by saying Kurapika's a step away from breaking down, and that he's put in a much more fragile pot compared to his old version.

i like the cast of 2011 as a whole, but sawashiro's kurapica doesn't do it for me. i thought she was great in the hunter exam, but in york shin so far she hasn't portrayed kurapica's cold anger well.

I don't think he meant "power" in that sense. Kurapika's voice and demeanor in that old version is understated and subtle too, but still manages to convey a great deal of emotion. There are these little moments when you can see behind the mask, and his unfathomable rage becomes noticeable. I think that's what he meant by powerful.

I think the direction is what really makes the difference in the old version. It makes you see how much Kurapika is hurting inside despite appearing all cold and shit.

Additionally, the color and lighting was a freaking work of art. It added a lot to the bleakness of that scene. What's happening with Kurapika here is a tragedy, and whoever did the art direction back then really knew how to convey that. The art in the new version is just a typical bleach look. No much creativity there.

All in all, I still liked this version. It's good. It's just that old one was really good.

Kurapika vs Uvo!
The path of revenge has begun!
Looks like Kurapika grew up to be a scary monster.
I was impressed he managed to master all the Nen techniques.
Flashback to his learning period good info.
