Does it cover the first chapter or two? Or is it select chapters?

Oh man the RAGE is going to burn bright with red fire of a thousand suns with the manga readers. The approach they have taken is skipping over the important and might I add "good points" of the story. Basically everything that happened up to the Tokyo arc. Well looks like we are going to get our worst fears come to the life. The dreaded Tokyo Arc is speeding towards us.

Also, How the animation staff managed to take such lovely art by Seo and make it mediocre is beyond me. Im not digging the style or the character animations. For a first episode i felt nothing but disappointment. I know some from the previews felt the animation looked good and stayed faithful to Seo's original work but i dont see it honestly. Nanami, Eba, Rin and even Akari looked very bland.

The experienced manga readers will see what the anime is trying to do and im sure they will see why this approach is worst way to go. I mean its all over the place and has gaping holes the story goes from the past to the present at will. The whole story feel forced and rushed like they are trying to get the Hiroshima arc out of the way and move on. They crammed so much material into one episode it more like a bunch of random thoughts animated.

Well well, this is a plot that is taken straight out of some K/J-drama to the point I was laughing at how cliche it is. But hey everyone has their junk food, and this is my type (sorry cute girls doing cute things doesn't do it for me ).

I can already smell the rage that people are gonna pout once enough people watch this. Reminds me of a not as good version of True Tears or Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (w/o the coma element) in its level of "shipping trolling". Someone like Mari Okada will be proud of this.

Despite jumping from present to past at multiple points, I am 95% sure of knowing what' going on. I watched enough of these types of series in various mediums to get the jist of it.

I hope that we'll eventually see a fully fleshed out TV series (multiple seasons) for Kimi no Iru Machi starting by first half of 2013. If we don't, then I reluctantly must agree with Sinestra.

Although the character artwork of the anime isn't as wonderful as the original mangaka's character artwork, I thought it was passable. And I particularly loved seeing how the countryside scenes looked fully colored in each of their seasons during the flashbacks. I thought the voice-acting was well-done.

I only started reading the manga two weeks ago, and I've read all the chapters that have been published to date. With the manga storyline still fairly fresh in my memory, this first OAV felt like a nice recap episode to me, so I didn't mind all the skipped details. So from my perspective, I found this first OAV quite enjoyable. I'd say that as a "recap episode", it was almost on par with Kimi ni Todoke 2nd season's episode zero, which I consider the best anime recap episode ever made.

So I'm hoping that the animators truly intended the first two announced OAVs of Kimi no Iru Machi to serve as compelling enough previews to draw in those who haven't read the manga yet, while at the same time being bittersweet recap re-tellings for those who have read the manga.

P.S. Was anyone else reminded of Shinkai Makoto's 5cm/sec at several points in this OAV episode? Examples:
- The first day when the bus arrived ahead of schedule in Tokyo as Eba Yuzuki was running home to pick up Kirishima Haruto's gift, and they just missed each other in passing. Compare to how the two in 5cm/sec as adults passed by one another at the train tracks without fully realizing it.
- The separate but intertwining dialogs of Yuzuki and Haruto on the first day right before 5pm. Compare with the separate but intertwining dialogs of the two in 5cm/sec.

Wow. I mean I didn't like the Visit to Tokyo arc but this is a kind of nice spin to it. They know they only have 2 OVAs to tell some sort of story and they actually managed to flesh out Haruto, Eba and Nanami with those flashbacks. Your average viewer will probably be confused on who confessed to whom (especially the Nanami parts) but taking everything to account, it was a pretty good OVA. While the animation is average to above average, what stands out is the incredible direction! The way the angles were shot is very theatrical. Also people are complaining about the character designs not doing justice to the manga and I agree to a certain point but with these type of designs, cheap fanservice will occur less making Kimi no Iru Machi a bit more credible.

Of course the obvious terribadness is there. The whole long distance relationship was cheesy and predictable. It did not cross any boundaries on making it better than your usual romances. The whole "Oh I have to give you this gift, but its hard to meet you even though we are in the same city already!!" is again borderlines cheesiness and predictability. Not that being predictable is bad, but its not like its executed well anyway. And they used a part of the manga I did not like (well it's not like the good parts are a lot better but the infuriation of what makes Kimi no Iru Machi that infamous does start here.)

As an adaptation of the manga, Kimi no Iru Machi the anime excels. But there's nothing you can do when the content is mediocre at best anyway so if I'd have to rate this, it would be a 7/10. A solid one though!

I only read some chapters years ago , i did like the manga design which reminds me of Suzuka.
In this ova that was meh...
I look back to the manga's chapter , then i saw "Ice flowers" chapter , i was interested about it , so i read this chapter lol , the ova went to chapter 1-174.

Something always bother me. When there was in Toyko , wasn't it simpler to phone or mail each other ? well i know that it gives more drama but sometimes no cliche could be good...
Not to mention the famous "boyfriend" things... but well..

Actually that scene is from chapter 58 right before she leaves and it ends things on chapter 67...

I typically don't follow any pop idols, but in looking up the somewhat catchy song that played during the end credits, I discovered that the vocalist Mano Erina is a pop idol, and she also voiced Koba Haruna in the anime (Kanzaki Nanami's friend in Tokyo that Nanami and Haruto were deceiving in the family restaurant). If that's her first seiyuu role, I'd say she did a good job. Anyhow, here are YouTube video of Mano Erina's singing the theme song live and the music video version:

Misunderstanding drama. The worst kind of drama.

First half was fine. It may have been a little typical (seemed like it was practically ripped off 5 centimeters Per Second actually) but I simply thought it was setting up the premise so I didn't mind. The second half was just plain confusing. I knew instantly what would happen when he accepted her offer as acting as her boyfriend but I could follow what was happening in the restaurant. The story Nanami was telling sounded like an obvious lie at first but seemed too genuine as she went on. Then comes Haruto's flashback which seems like the right story but as far as I can tell, completely contradicts what Nanami said...

The flashbacks were completely real. The chronological order starts with Haruto's flashback then, if my memory is correct, Nanami and the fireworks, then Haruto getting rejected (the one in the sea), then the part where Nanami slaps him.

The OVA was crunching time and I knew non-readers wouldn't understand. It's a marginal effort in adapting the manga I guess but when the manga isn't that good to begin with anyway. . .

Don't even compare 5cm to this since from this point on in the manga, things just get worse (not in a situational way but in a "the story's getting worse" way).

Demi Soda brought this one to my attention, comparing it to 5 cm per Second and True Tears. That was certainly enough to garner my interest.

As an anime-only viewer, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I completely loved the art style, character designs, and seiyu work in this.

But what really stood out to me was just how simply fantastic this episode was at creating an engrossing atmosphere. It captured the various settings so marvelously, making me feel like I was actually right there, and that the settings are actually real (pretty impressive for an animated show).

The drama was perhaps a bit forced, but I think that it contributed nicely to the overall effect of this OVA.

Very nice watch, that definitely lived up to how Demi Soda billed it to me.
