Liked the fast pacing and awesome character action, seriousness, and the unknown of where it's headed, definitely didn't like the choice to kill off Kanade and the kid being the lead.

Very good ep but Kanade's death almost took all of the air out of the show for me since Kanade and Tsubasa fighting (both of whom were neat looking characters demoted to not leads) was the part of the show I was interested in and their action was pretty cool and she kinda felt like she had the style of a Gainax heroine.

Yeah, always looking forward to Satelight's shows.

He's probably not reading the thread anymore but just in case, keep up the great work Thomas!

Was really glad to see this was getting a scifi setting.

That was a sweet pic.

Yup, same here, heh.

Probably a bit yuri.

This, man, is the next Macross. With a bit of Ar Tonelico. And Mai-Otome.
Also, the black version of Tsubasa's fighting gear looks like KOS-MOS (from Xenosaga).

TAKEN.
Yeah. I know what you mean I got a KOS-MOS vibe from it too which was really cool.

So did anyone else getting Ar Tonelico vibes out of this? I mean with the whole using pop songs as attacks and spells?

Yup, definitely Also the person mentioning Panty & Stocking, I got a bit of that too during the hyper action.

Edit: Ooh yeah, and the Iczer series, I enjoyed those. Nice asage.

Felt more like Iczer 1 or Lt Scarlet, it's kind of like a standard trope of power suit heroine to begin with a bloodbath

Looks like I changed by mind. I won't be picking this up.
I gotta admit, Symphogear looks stunning, and I give Satelight plus points to that.

By the way, is this picture from the episode?

If so, what is an Aufwachenschlagen?

After poking through this thread (and seeing the images of Kanade and Tsubasa) I decided to check it out.

This is pretty much my string of thoughts/reactions throughout the episode:

Spoiler for Reactions/saving space:

That being said, my eyes were glued to the screen the entire time. It's a wonder I somehow remembered to breathe. Good ol' nature, doing things for me automatically.

Awesome. Great work, I loved the city/location scifi design.

But hated the death of the character I came to the show in the first place to watch...

Yeah, not once did you even mention the lead let alone by name, I was enjoying the setting they were creating and love scifi so I was loving the city design, and the bizarreness of the noise and how they attacked as you mentioned and the unexpected violence with the civilians and most especially the kinetic style of action they were going for particularly with Kanade's badass moves (and Tsubasa's later with her cool KOS-MOS colored armor), if they didn't kill her and trade in my favorite character going in, and at that point, for the lame and least favorite character (even within the story it seems since now when they went back to the present Hibiki's now still alive even though she should be dead while Kanade's gone) this would have been a rock solid premiere, instead I didn't even really like her even when she was protecting the other kid and using Kanade for motivation which I'm sure was the idea and instead I spent the whole time whenever she was on the screen wanting Kanade back and wanting the first half of the ep back, heck I would have rather seen Kanade have to deal with failing to save her. I suppose weirdness could still occur since something funky seemed to happen with the timeline if she's dead and then alive (at least for now) in the present.

That said, the pacing was really good (except for the school lull).

Is no one really bothered that the MAJOR PLOT SPOILER about Kanade is being posted in this thread outside of spoiler tags?

More than a budget problem, the production may suffer from the tight schedule. The production team struggles to finish episodes on time for broadcasting. This time I'm lucky to work only on pre production where my work is not (too much) affected by this problem. I really hope that animators will give their best.
Also a part of the same team (producer, storyboarders, animators) is currently working on AKB0048! 2012 will be an idol year for us!

That sounds bad

You guys schedule is pretty hectic eh, this season alone you have 3 show airing!
I hope this show would not suffer too much because this, because quite frankly I anticipated this one the most from Satelight's line-up this year.

I might import the R2 disc if its live up to my expectation!

Hope the animators can pull it off.

Also can't wait for Mouretsu Pirates to start, the other Satelight show about to begin.

I prefer this show over Rinne, this is something less clichè and more original. Like the female duo only and the songs, the mature content and the non-stop action. Very good and solid first episode.

... I must be mad.

I'm rewatching episode 1 just to replay the entire concert scene. I'm not sure if the song played in that concert is titled "Orbital Beat" or "Gyakkou no Flugel" though.

In any case, OST WHERE?!?!?!
