Now if this was the real world, there'd be tons of youtube videos saying 'Akashi got dunked on!'.
Glad Akashi didn't try to stop him, might have facepalm myself, like when watching the DeAndre Jordan Brandon Knight dunk.

It is a possibility, but like Log was saying, if he were to play PG roles as well, that would mean the actual PG, Akashi, would be lacking. It is most likely a translation error. We could figure it out if someone has access to the raws.

Also Mayuzumi seems like Kuroko.

Checked the raws. Mayuzumi is PF (Power Forward).

Right, so it's the Chinese translation's error. Thanks.

He's almost as good as Kuroko lol. Presence wise.

Actually, isn't there still the Nationals after the Winter Cup? If Seirin loses to Rakuzan in the Winter Cup Finals, there's still one more chance for them in the Nationals. It will pretty much be Seirin and Rakuzan all over again since Too is out due to their early exit in the Winter's Cup. Shutoku and Kaijo will probably feature as well, though I'm not sure about Murasakibara's school.

We know that the WC is the biggest tournament for high school teams. And we know that because the WC is Imayoshi's and Susa's last tournament, that means that there will be no more tounaments for this school year, otherwise they'll have been playing in it.

Hence, the Nationals must have been before the WC. Someone likely made an error.

The Wikia could be wrong of course, but it says that the Nationals is the most important tournament of the big 3. Teikou became famous because of its tri-peat in the Nationals after all. Too is probably out because they lost to Seirin in the first round of the WC and cannot qualify for the Nationals anymore.

I suppose it is like baseball and koshien. 2 tournaments by year, but the most important one is in summer.
So, here, the next nationals will be in summer and in japan a school year finishes in march or april. So, yeah, kagami and Kuroko will be in second year for the next nationals and Teppei won't play basketball in his third year of school

Hopefully, rather than introduce more arcs just to drag the manga on.

Leave that kind of thing for a sequel please. Something like New Prince of Tennis to Prince of Tennis.

Actually, her being surprised when she saw the Japanese high schoolers' skills was simply because they far exceeded her expectations. It doesn't necessarily mean that Japanese high schoolers are the world's strongest.

Doubt it.

The same formula can only work so many times before getting old.

Especially if it's a basketball drama.

Actually from all indications in the manga the players from NBA are better then the GoM.

On a related note it was mentioned in the first Shuutoku vs Seiren match that there are videos of Lebron James making full court shots around. I thought it was just in universe but upon searching it up myself.

King James to stronk.

Lebron may make a full court shot during practice (as Izuki mentioned), but doing it during a game is a different story (what Midorima does).
Forget full court, even shooting and making it from half court (even if it's during high school competition) is an incredible feat. If Midorima ever decides to enter the draft, his shooting prowess alone would probably make him a mid to late first round pick.

If the GoM were to be in a draft on their own, I think Murasakibara would be first pick, followed by Aomine. Third would be Akashi, then Midorima and Kise.

Wait... doesn't that mean he'll need to get subbed out sometime later in the match?

Now let's speculate who their 6th guy will be, shall we?

Wikia's wrong in this case. There are three tournaments. The Interhigh in the summer, Nationals in the fall, and Winter Cup in, well, winter. IIRC, Interhigh is the most prestigious. Recently, however, the WC has been on the rise and is pretty much on the same level as Interhigh. Seirin competed in the Interhigh, and then focused on the WC, skipping Nationals. (ref. to first part, Chapter 53)

Exactly. If a professor of mathematics in the US visits Japan and is shocked/impressed to see a handful of high school students whizzing through multivariable calculus, it doesn't mean these students are the best mathematicians in the world. It just means they're unexpectedly advanced for their age group. Sure, they might be able to figure out gradients and tangent planes faster than the professor, but the prof. still has loads more knowledge and experience.

Alex's situation with these guys is the same. She's impressed, but she knows (knew) a ton of techniques they don't(didn't). Remember, she was still holding out on that meteor jam. Same with the rest of the world. If we were to ever meet an quality NBA player in this manga, the difference would probably be that he'd have a lot more strength, speed, awareness, and mental fortitude... Plus a trick or two tucked away.

About this, I realised something.

Against teams you perceive to be weaker, yes, you can consistently make shots from full and half court as if it's training. However, against Rakuzan he only made 2 half-court shots in the first half. Because Rakuzan is an extremely strong team, he had to get more serious.

In other words, results are still more efficient for him if he makes normal 3-pointers. Half- and full-court shots are only really effective against those awed by it, which is less likely in the NBA.

Of course, not to say he can't spam all his energy making these kinds of shots and staying on court for a very short time, getting subbed out once he runs out of energy, but still...
