that's what we assume, the show is supposed to take place over the course of 3 Main? characters, (Flit)14 > (Asem)17? > (Kio) sparking a grandfather-father-grandchild story over the course of a decade.

of course timeskips are going to be involved, i wouldn't mind a Gurren lagann-style one, i actually liked that one

The stock character profile of time-skipped Flit seems pretty nice, despite the howls of disapproval on 4chan and elsewhere. Downsides are that there are immediate spoilers of what transpired between the time skips, so very little speculation could be done.

Head's proportion is kinda off. Frankly I'd wait for promotion picture or in-anime animation. Remember how Flit looks in the anime compared to the lineart?

Yup! It'll probably be an OVA. As to just what material it will cover, we'll have to wait until after Flit's arc is over, as there's so little knowledge about the AGE universe.

They want to appeal to UC fans. Hmmm. What makes the fans flock to the UC universe is the sheer accumulated content from Universal Century's stories and mechas. If UC's an epic, AGE is still pretty much in rough draft form.

Anyhow, this announcement makes me quite curious. Do the backers of AGE really think they'll have enough potential for epicness?

Well, an interesting idea. But I hope this doesn't undermine the regular series. After all the cries of fans wanting something more serious, I'm a little weary of this. I hope it'll just be a side story.

Oh and the purple UE will probably be the Dorado.

They kind of have to do something like this though. Whether justified or not a lot of people are freaking the ever loving fuck out about the main series and have basically decided at the 1/5 or so mark that it has zero potential and probably won't give it it's fair shake. Sunrise is a pretty clever company, has probably noted what is going on (ridiculous as I personally think it is) and how the anti-AGE attitude is spiraling out of control and is trying to do something to appease these people so that they'll spend money on the AGE franchise again.

Probably won't take too much to make this work though as these ragey fans actually seem quite simple and easy to solve in the long run. Just give them a completely new art style that is as far away as possible from the one in the TV series, lots and lots of violence (preferably with some blood or gore), the appearance of "realism" in the works depiction, character deaths (at least one major character), an adult protagonist (absolutely critical) and high quality combat choreography and watch as suddenly these people become a lot more keen on the AGE franchise.

Then again that might also not work since it's entirely possible that people are just so utterly against the AGE franchise at this point that even it having the name AGE in the side project will cause them to not even give it a fair shake as well and they'll just immediately start taking umbrage with everything it tries to do right off the bat. For this reason if it were me personally acting as producer I would probably give it an alternative subtitle and leave the AGE part out entirely.

Best of luck to Sunrise on this one. I'd honestly hate to be them and have to deal with trying to work the current Gundam fan base (hopefully Japan isn't nearly as bad as over here), but if anyone can find a way to make it all work I think it's this company.

As long as it's not the type of "fan" that Guanche describes in his Rage against the Gundam AGE podcast special (the type that has completely unrealistic expectations of the franchise for whatever reason) it should be possible. It really depends just how hell bent a particular person is on hating Gundam stuff. Again if it's a person who even maintains the pretense of giving a Gundam work a fair chance then I don't see why they couldn't satisfy them. I would assume most Gundam fans are still like this even if the internet currently makes it look like the entire Gundam fanbase has completely lost it's mind and sense of reason.

If anything, I'm hoping this serious approach will be a side story about the years of war and destruction before the main series started. Pre silver chalice treaty area of AGE's history.

One other thing I'm realizing is....it's apparent the Dorado and Zedas R aren't going to be second generation MS. A purple MS is arriving in the last episode of Flit's arc, so that has to be the Dorado. Then the Zedas got its ass beat and half of all its limbs chopped off, so those two are probably in this generation and now the next. I'm starting to wonder if the Adele will be the Federation's new mass produced MS that will be at the blockcade in episode 12.
