Got through sequence 2. I noticed that Material-S uses different characters for Nanoha's name. Any of the Japanese knowledgeable understand the significance?

What is she using? Hiragana or katakana? Because katakana is typically only used for foreign words and names.

Got to sequence 5 but an unfortunate incident kicked me back to 1 w/o save. The conversation with Levi is the funniest and unlike most other conversation i think i actually understanding what they are trying to say.

Anyway what are those things you get at the end of a sequence clear used for. Points are for costumes? Item and skills are for?

Go to options and make sure auto-save is turned on.

And yeah, the points are for unlocking stuff.

A bit of a disappointment: the dialouge scenes are longer than the fights.

So, does anyone have stronger melee damage than Fate whom would be surprising?

I already asked this, but if Fate has better melee damage than most everyone else, that would seem appropriate. It's not like she's supposed to hit as hard as Signum and Vita.

The origin of this might be the "kata" in katakana is for "katai" meaning hard, stiff or in even formal in some cases, just like the characters are made of straight lines and small curves.
Hiragana, on the other hand, is more flexible and elegant in writting, representing ease of mind or informality.
...just my two cents though

Anyway, in some games the usage of katakana instead of hiragana on a character's name usually applies if the speaker is foreign and isn't used to japanese names.

In other cases, it's because they have a mechanical speech pattern...so, reasons for it may vary

They add a bit of flavor to the character's personality...though, nuances like this are usually lost in translation

She actually has pretty low melee damage...
Very close to Chrono's, Levi make it look really weak.
Surprising how Stern has better melee damage.
Linith also has higher melee damage then Fate.
The only consolation is that her melee hits are fast.

Sequence X

Spoiler for Sequence X:

It has been a while since Professor Florian was laid to rest. The green has been returning to Eltria steadily. Amitie introduces herself and her sister, and of course, the Masters of Salvation. The Sovereign of the Purple Sky, the King of Darkness and their comrades are doing well. But even with the planet moving forward to revival as it is, there are still plenty of giant rampaging life forms around. That's why in order for their skills not to dull, they occasionally hold practice matches with each other.
The first match is Yuri vs. Stern. One thing everyone must note here is that our favorite Material of Wisdom is very fond of Yuri. She's the only one I've seen Stern talk to with a permanent smile on her character portrait. Anyway, Amitie warns Yuri not to overdo it since she's still not too good in holding back her power. Kyrie playfully adds that it's to avoid making another crater. Yuri says she'll do her best but Stern says that she shouldn't hold back. Stern won't avoid her attacks and defend against them head-on, encouraging their Sovereign to go all out. Levi notes that Stern is obviously itching to face against Yuri's full power, judging from her expression. (Who wants to bet it's still a poker face yet Levi can read it well? ) Dearche says she can't get where's the fun in such a useless match and decides to watch from a safe distance. Kyrie quickly tags along with her despite the King's protests. Stern comments on the bustling as usual commentators before starting the match.

Special Dialogue:
Stern: Now, Yuri... Receive my flames! Shin Luciferion Breaker!! FIIRRREEE!!!

Yuri: Now... Here I come, Stern! Ancient Matrix! Dokaaann~desu!

After the match, Yuri thanks Stern, saying that the Material's training regimen is helpful. Stern says that coming from Yuri, she is genuinely happy with the comment. But she also thinks to herself that she'll need some serious training if she loses this easily. She wants to be at her best for her eventual rematch with Nanoha. Levi calls Yuri and says she'll go next.
Levi says she's ready and Yuri follows suit. The slasher loli treats Yuri very much like a childhood playmate. Anyway, Levi says it's time to compare to find out if Yuri's 'Hakuyoku' (Soul Wings [魄翼]) or her Vulnificus is stronger. They start the fight.

Special Dialogue:
Levi: Yuri! A battle like this is fun, right? Here I go! Dukyuuun! Eternal Thunder Sword!! Slay the living!!!

Yuri: Now... Here I come, Levi! Be taken away by the fire of darkness! Blood Flame Sword!! Ichigeki Hissatsu~desu! (One-Hit Sure-Kill)

The fight ends with an alarmed Yuri telling Levi that she's starting to take it too seriously. It's starting to hurt and shock a lot. ("Ittai desu! Biribiri desu!') Levi complains that she didn't want to lose yet she did. Frustrated, she throws a tantrum and demands for a rematch. ("Yuri! Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai~!") Yuri laughs and is game. Amitie however tells Levi off to not get too fired up. Dearche says that fellow kids' playfulness just doesn't end. Kyrie agrees but also thinks she hasn't moved her body for a bit, asking Yuri for a match. Levi says that Kyrie is unfair but Pinkie just says that it's the order of things.
Kyrie says that her Variant Zapper has a full tank and she's in completely prepared. She playfully warns Yuri going close is dangerous. Yuri only says that she'll have to face it head-on. Kyrie suddenly goess off-topic and says that she noticed that Yuri has been influenced a lot by Amita and Dearche lately. Yuri is surprised and asks if it's really the case. Kyrie-sensei explains: (1)She's very polite. (2)She's unreasonably hotblooded and straightforward. (3)She's airheaded ('Warito tennen'Not sure about this one). Yuri says that (1) is how she's always been. For (3), she was born with that personality. She's not sure about (2) though. Levi comments that Yuri DOES spend a lot of time with Amita. Florian-neechan says that she handles many of the activities and planet-recovery actions that Yuri takes so it's only natural. Yuri thinks about it and realizes that it is true.

Stern: And then Dearche goes, "Yuri isn't coming home a lot," and gets depressed sometimes.
Dearche: Who does!? When?! Stern, you really don't respect me at all! I'll deliver judgment upon you!!
Stern: (In a very bored tone) How many time do I have to tell you... I really do respect you.
Dearche: Alright, I've decided. Stern, just lie there. I'll give you a full taste of Inferno.
Stern: Unfortunately, I must decline that offer.

Kyrie says that they won't get started if they keep watching the unfolding drama. Yuri thinks to herself that it's Kyrie who started it in the first place but decides against saying anything.

Special Dialogue:
Kyrie: Yyyyoisho! Here I go~! Slash Rave Impact! One... Two! DOKAAAN!!!

Yuri: Here I come, Kyrie! Ancient Matrix! Toryaaa~~~!

After the fight...

Yuri: It's my victory~!
Kyrie: Aahn~! Mou! I really can't win in battle~!
Dearche: Don't worry, Pinkie. If you use your cowardly ways, you won't lose to anyone.
Levi: That's right! Yo, Kyrie the cheating genius!
Kyrie: Nahan~ Why is it that I feel I'm not being praised one bit?
Amita: Well, rather than being unfair she uses her head and makes plans... I think. Yes...
Yuri: Kyrie real strength doesn't lie in simple fights like this.
Kyrie: Nn~ Yuri's a good girl. Let me pat you~ *patpat~*
Yuri: Ahaha! Thank you, Kyrie.
Amita asks King-sama if she's not going to face Yuri. Dearche haughtily asks if Amitie thinks she needs any practice. Yuri pipes in and says she wants one round with Dearche, wanting to be thought long-ranged combat. Our lovable King immediately agrees to just one match, albeit saying it in a convincingly reluctant way. Amita and Kyrie both thinks at the same time how easy it was that the King was convinced.
This is my favorite bit of Tsundere Dearche goodness so I'm putting it in full dialogue.

Yuri: Dearche... Once more, I thank you?
Dearche: W-what's with that all of a sudden?
Yuri: For saving me... For bringing me to such a beautiful blue sky.
Dearche: Huh, there is no need for your thanks. I only did what I had to do.
Yuri: Even if that's so, thank you... Dearche, our kind King. I love you.
Dearche: E-Eeei! Will you stop that?! A chill is running through my skin! You! Have you forgotten that I was born a King of Darkness?!
Yuri: You're my important Dearche and everyone's King. I haven't forgotten and I'll keep on saying I'll love you no matter how many times.
Dearche: U-uwaaaAAA~!!! Shut up already!! Shut uuup!!! No, it doesn't matter if you don't! With my power as the King who rules over Darkness, I'll shut that loose mouth of yours to never say those again!
Yuri: Yes! I won't lose~!

Special Dialogue:
Dearche: (In a very flustered tone) Geez! Saying such embarrassing things all the time!! Be swallowed in the darkness and reflect on your actions!!! JUGGERNAUT!!!!

Yuri: I'll pierce through Dearche's heart! Here I go~!! HEARTBREAK MATRIX~❤!!!
Yuri happily declares her win. Dearche is at a loss, thinking that she was going all out at that time as well. She goes into denial and thinks maybe Yuri's doing especially well today or maybe it's just her hunger's fault...

Yuri: Dearche! After the matches, let's have dinner. I made preparations for it myself today!
Dearche: DAAAA~! DON'T READ PEOPLE'S MINDS AND SAY IT OUT LOUD!!
Yuri: Eeh~? I didn't! I would never do such a rude thing!
Dearche: Uegh!
Kyrie: Really, those two get along well. King-sama and Yuri.
Amita: How should I say it, like parent and child...
Stern: The Lord of Darkness and the Sovereign of the Purple Sky. The fact that those two has such a strong bond is a wonderful thing for us.
Levi: I don't really get it but the fact that they get along well makes me happy! ...Ah. And I'm also hungry now. :3
Amita: Alright! Going by the order, I'm next. Yuri!
Yuri: Yes!
Amita: I'm the last one. Is it alright?
Yuri: Yes, gladly!
Yuri thinks it's a wondrous thing for Amita and Kyrie to have gone to the era of the Last Mistress of the Night Sky. Amita hums curiously and Yuri clarifies that had they not arrived, she might have ended up finishing off Hayate, Nanoha and the others. She could have continued rampaging and destroying. Of course, she still thinks the Materials could have done something.
Amita says that she doesn't think she did anything special, also confident the Materials could have managed. Even if they became time travellers and intruded in the past, people and history won't changed so easily. Even if a ripple is caused in the surface of a lake, those living in it an the lake itself will stay the same. Yuri wonders if that's reaally the case and Amita says that at least her belief. Humans and other living things will keep living as what they are with confidence, marching forward to each of their own futures no matter what happens. That's why she thinks that people who live strongly and earnestly are wonderful. Interacting the Aces, meeting the Materials and Yuri, all of these experiences have made her love humans even more. Yuri agrees and says she has grown to love Eltria and its people as well. She strongly wishes for the revival of the planet for the sake of the earth the Professor is sleeping in and it's people. Amita enthusiastically continues that the Florian family and the Wings of the Purple Sky will keep on doing their best. The two suddenly begin saying and continuing the other's lines as if reading each others minds:

Yuri: Today, tomorrow and the day after that!
Amita: Our wishes are one! To once again make the planet green!
Yuri: In order to achieve that dream-
Amita: Yes! We'll go forth full of expectations!

Kyrie thinks those two really are similar and Stern agrees. The fight starts.

Special dialogue: I had to give up on Amita's here. I could not understand it!

Yuri: Passion, hot blood, burning feelings! With all this things Amita thought me, I'll keep on doing my best!
Amita loses, with Kyrie teasing her for it. Stern now mentions that even she's already hungry and that they should go home. Levi happily says she has gathered some fruits in last nightand had them cooling in the car. Dearche praises her for it. Amita signals for everyone it's time to go home.
Looking at the Eltrian sky, Amitie thinks about their friends from another era, knowing they separated by a great distance and time. She says that she and the others are doing well. The Eltrian side always talk about when they would meet each other again. Even if they can't talk or hold one another right now... they will never ever forget. Meeting everyone... being saved by everyone. Someday, when much more of the green of the planet Eltria has returned, she wants them to come over and see.

Until that day, she and the others will spend everyday doing their best and living to the fullest, never forgetting to smile...

And that completes the story of MGLN A'S Portable: The Gears of Destiny. It was a huge effort but was worth every bit of the way!

Of course, I stand by my opinion that Yuri is too adorable for my health...

I'll come back to the previous chapters to make several updates and some dialogue additions if I can manage. I also plan on setting up a character post with some general comments about the game. Thanks a lot for coming along with the ride, guys. If there's any inaccuracies or maybe some details you'd like clarified, just tell me and I'll make necessary changes and/or give answers to the best of my understanding.

Of course, I stand by my opinion that Yuri is too adorable for my health...

I'll come back to the previous chapters to make several updates and some dialogue additions if I can manage. I also plan on setting up a character post with some general comments about the game. Thanks a lot for coming along with the ride, guys. If there's any inaccuracies or maybe some details you'd like clarified, just tell me and I'll make necessary changes and/or give answers to the best of my understanding.

Thanks for the hard work. Some small stuff:

The FBD done by Yuri to Diarche, I think the translation sounds better like she would capture Diarche's heart. Sure, it is not a driect translation but the meaning is there. Amita I can't really help. She says it really fast and the lines are long.

On the Eltrian group, since the game belongs to Bandai Namco, will it mean that we will see them in Endless Frontier?

The conversation with Levi is the funniest and unlike most other conversation i think i actually understanding what they are trying to say. Anyway what are those things you get at the end of a sequence clear used for. Points are for costumes? Item and skills are for?

I already asked this, but if Fate has better melee damage than most everyone else, that would seem appropriate. It's not like she's supposed to hit as hard as Signum and Vita.

The green has been returning to Eltria steadily. Amitie introduces herself and her sister, and of course, the Masters of Salvation. The Sovereign of the Purple Sky, the King of Darkness and their comrades are doing well. But even with the planet moving forward to revival as it is, there are still plenty of giant rampaging life forms around. That's why in order for their skills not to dull, they occasionally hold practice matches with each other. The first match is Yuri vs. Stern. One thing everyone must note here is that our favorite Material of Wisdom is very fond of Yuri. She's the only one I've seen Stern talk to with a permanent smile on her character portrait. Anyway, Amitie warns Yuri not to overdo it since she's still not too good in holding back her power. Kyrie playfully adds that it's to avoid making another crater. Yuri says she'll do her best but Stern says that she shouldn't hold back. Stern won't avoid her attacks and defend against them head-on, encouraging their Sovereign to go all out. Levi notes that Stern is obviously itching to face against Yuri's full power, judging from her expression. (Who wants to bet it's still a poker face yet Levi can read it well? ) Dearche says she can't get where's the fun in such a useless match and decides to watch from a safe distance. Kyrie quickly tags along with her despite the King's protests. Stern comments on the bustling as usual commentators before starting the match. Special Dialogue: Stern: Now, Yuri... Receive my flames! Shin Luciferion Breaker!! FIIRRREEE!!! Yuri: Now... Here I come, Stern! Ancient Matrix! Dokaaann~desu! After the match, Yuri thanks Stern, saying that the Material's training regimen is helpful. Stern says that coming from Yuri, she is genuinely happy with the comment. But she also thinks to herself that she'll need some serious training if she loses this easily. She wants to be at her best for her eventual rematch with Nanoha. Levi calls Yuri and says she'll go next. Levi says she's ready and Yuri follows suit. The slasher loli treats Yuri very much like a childhood playmate. Anyway, Levi says it's time to compare to find out if Yuri's 'Hakuyoku' (Soul Wings [魄翼]) or her Vulnificus is stronger. They start the fight. Special Dialogue: Levi: Yuri! A battle like this is fun, right? Here I go! Dukyuuun! Eternal Thunder Sword!! Slay the living!!! Yuri: Now... Here I come, Levi! Be taken away by the fire of darkness! Blood Flame Sword!! Ichigeki Hissatsu~desu! (One-Hit Sure-Kill) The fight ends with an alarmed Yuri telling Levi that she's starting to take it too seriously. It's starting to hurt and shock a lot. ("Ittai desu! Biribiri desu!') Levi complains that she didn't want to lose yet she did. Frustrated, she throws a tantrum and demands for a rematch. ("Yuri! Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai~!") Yuri laughs and is game. Amitie however tells Levi off to not get too fired up. Dearche says that fellow kids' playfulness just doesn't end. Kyrie agrees but also thinks she hasn't moved her body for a bit, asking Yuri for a match. Levi says that Kyrie is unfair but Pinkie just says that it's the order of things. Kyrie says that her Variant Zapper has a full tank and she's in completely prepared. She playfully warns Yuri going close is dangerous. Yuri only says that she'll have to face it head-on. Kyrie suddenly goess off-topic and says that she noticed that Yuri has been influenced a lot by Amita and Dearche lately. Yuri is surprised and asks if it's really the case. Kyrie-sensei explains: (1)She's very polite. (2)She's unreasonably hotblooded and straightforward. (3)She's airheaded ('Warito tennen'Not sure about this one). Yuri says that (1) is how she's always been. For (3), she was born with that personality. She's not sure about (2) though. Levi comments that Yuri DOES spend a lot of time with Amita. Florian-neechan says that she handles many of the activities and planet-recovery actions that Yuri takes so it's only natural. Yuri thinks about it and realizes that it is true. Stern: And then Dearche goes, "Yuri isn't coming home a lot," and gets depressed sometimes. Dearche: Who does!? When?! Stern, you really don't respect me at all! I'll deliver judgment upon you!! Stern: (In a very bored tone) How many time do I have to tell you... I really do respect you. Dearche: Alright, I've decided. Stern, just lie there. I'll give you a full taste of Inferno. Stern: Unfortunately, I must decline that offer. Kyrie says that they won't get started if they keep watching the unfolding drama. Yuri thinks to herself that it's Kyrie who started it in the first place but decides against saying anything. Special Dialogue: Kyrie: Yyyyoisho! Here I go~! Slash Rave Impact! One... Two! DOKAAAN!!! Yuri: Here I come, Kyrie! Ancient Matrix! Toryaaa~~~! After the fight... Yuri: It's my victory~! Kyrie: Aahn~! Mou! I really can't win in battle~! Dearche: Don't worry, Pinkie. If you use your cowardly ways, you won't lose to anyone. Levi: That's right! Yo, Kyrie the cheating genius! Kyrie: Nahan~ Why is it that I feel I'm not being praised one bit? Amita: Well, rather than being unfair she uses her head and makes plans... I think. Yes... Yuri: Kyrie real strength doesn't lie in simple fights like this. Kyrie: Nn~ Yuri's a good girl. Let me pat you~ patpat~ Yuri: Ahaha! Thank you, Kyrie. Amita asks King-sama if she's not going to face Yuri. Dearche haughtily asks if Amitie thinks she needs any practice. Yuri pipes in and says she wants one round with Dearche, wanting to be thought long-ranged combat. Our lovable King immediately agrees to just one match, albeit saying it in a convincingly reluctant way. Amita and Kyrie both thinks at the same time how easy it was that the King was convinced. This is my favorite bit of Tsundere Dearche goodness so I'm putting it in full dialogue. Yuri: Dearche... Once more, I thank you? Dearche: W-what's with that all of a sudden? Yuri: For saving me... For bringing me to such a beautiful blue sky. Dearche: Huh, there is no need for your thanks. I only did what I had to do. Yuri: Even if that's so, thank you... Dearche, our kind King. I love you. Dearche: E-Eeei! Will you stop that?! A chill is running through my skin! You! Have you forgotten that I was born a King of Darkness?! Yuri: You're my important Dearche and everyone's King. I haven't forgotten and I'll keep on saying I'll love you no matter how many times. Dearche: U-uwaaaAAA~!!! Shut up already!! Shut uuup!!! No, it doesn't matter if you don't! With my power as the King who rules over Darkness, I'll shut that loose mouth of yours to never say those again! Yuri: Yes! I won't lose~! Special Dialogue: Dearche: (In a very flustered tone) Geez! Of course, she still thinks the Materials could have done something. Amita says that she doesn't think she did anything special, also confident the Materials could have managed. Even if they became time travellers and intruded in the past, people and history won't changed so easily. Even if a ripple is caused in the surface of a lake, those living in it an the lake itself will stay the same. Yuri wonders if that's reaally the case and Amita says that at least her belief. Humans and other living things will keep living as what they are with confidence, marching forward to each of their own futures no matter what happens. That's why she thinks that people who live strongly and earnestly are wonderful. Interacting the Aces, meeting the Materials and Yuri, all of these experiences have made her love humans even more. Yuri agrees and says she has grown to love Eltria and its people as well. She strongly wishes for the revival of the planet for the sake of the earth the Professor is sleeping in and it's people. Amita enthusiastically continues that the Florian family and the Wings of the Purple Sky will keep on doing their best. The two suddenly begin saying and continuing the other's lines as if reading each others minds: Yuri: Today, tomorrow and the day after that! Amita: Our wishes are one! To once again make the planet green! Yuri: In order to achieve that dream- Amita: Yes! We'll go forth full of expectations! Kyrie thinks those two really are similar and Stern agrees. The fight starts. Special dialogue: I had to give up on Amita's here. I could not understand it! Yuri: Passion, hot blood, burning feelings! With all this things Amita thought me, I'll keep on doing my best! Amita loses, with Kyrie teasing her for it. Stern now mentions that even she's already hungry and that they should go home. Levi happily says she has gathered some fruits in last nightand had them cooling in the car. Dearche praises her for it. Amita signals for everyone it's time to go home. Looking at the Eltrian sky, Amitie thinks about their friends from another era, knowing they separated by a great distance and time. She says that she and the others are doing well.
