Having finished seeing the episode I can say more on the ending.

Spoiler for 'last' battle:

Spoiler for Makoto:
i don't think you'd want to see that... 2199 would become a whole different type of show! XDDD

Well, you know what I mean.

And yeah, Dessler is so still alive, there's no doubt. Not only has he survived worse, seemingly more obvious "deaths" than that, but you can indeed see
Spoiler:
What we'll probably get in a hopeful sequel is that he's picked up by the White Comet Empire like in Farewell Yamato/Yamato 2.
And it's nice to see that, having watched episodes 23 and 24 for myself, Dessler, while being shown to be a war-nut, isn't made to be a complete douchebag.

Added bonus: we get to see him in Badass Battle Armor.

One thing I realized after watching episode 24 (especially after seeing that picture of the two of them in Yuki's room) is that.........despite all the drama with Yuki being captured and all, we don't get to see Kodai and Yuki together in their newfound, and quite importantly official (for the most part), relationship. I don't think we ever saw them together again after the end of episode 23, aside from when they were in groups with others like on the bridge. ARGH!!!!!

Yamato 2199 S2 had better be OOZING with KodaixYuki when it (hopefully) premieres. I want to see them like they were in the original!

It's funny that among Yuki's photograph collection there is one that is almost exactly like that Yamato Girls poster (though slighly edited) and more importantly, there is a photo of her and Kodai that is a wink to the original show.

It is an interesting group picture in that collection on the bridge. The main staff (minus the captain) and then the women from other shifts for radar and science departments.

Heard that removing the Yamato's wave motion gun seal would be considered as a crime. If they produce a scatter version it still won't solve the problem as the output is still too high. I think the wave motion cartridge or some form of cartridge with scatter shots would do the trick. We still won't get the Earth fleet with easy win, however on the defense side, it is likely that we will get the missile based wave motion barrier from Fukkukatsu hen.

Question then, what should Earth ships have on their bows? A high output energy gun port just like the Kongo Class and the former escort ships?

The other thing is, since after episode 24, they haven't fired the beam cannons at all, it makes me wonder whether that was banned as well.

I think Sanada wanted all power to engines, and then later hyperspace (or whatever its called) made them ineffective.

The scatter version seen on the 2201 Fleet and the 2220 Fleet might be enough. The worry seems to be destruction on a planetary level (crust penetration and greater). Yamato though, in all versions has the tighter beam, just they try to not hit planets (actively aiming to miss) with three exceptions.

One in the second series, Yamato fired on an enemy underground base with the wave motion gun (taking out the orbiting fleet, the missiles aimed at Yamato and the base). The planet survived.

Another in the third series. Yamato fires at an enemy base, though this time they've fired a planet destroying missile at Yamato from there and could do so at Earth given a chance. Again the planet survived (probably anyway)

Last time was in Final Yamato, wer they fired though a series of minor planets to get an enemy fleet before they could do more serious damage to Yamato. Those planets were destroyed and their debris wrecked the fleet.

Yamato rebuilt for the Resurrection film (2220) has a massive multi-shot wave motion gun. That's can't be "legal". The newer Earth ships have the wide area effect versions of the Wave Motion Gun tha shower an area with destructive energy. Perhaps like firing a thousand shock cannons into an area rather than a huge planet busting beam.

Supposedly there are rules about wave motion gun use. By government order only or something like that. But since Earth ships outside a certain distance won't be able to contact Earth, it would be up to the ship's commanding office or the fleet admiral to decide to use (and responsibility in using) the wave motion gun.

The failed OVA series, Yamato 2520, takes place in a universe suffering the aftermath of a hundred or more year war that used wave motion guns and the equivalents for the other side. Lots of dead planets and exploded planets.

I think the Desula Core Ship should have a Dessler cannon.

I think the Wave Motion Gun is like todays nuclear weapons. Ships from Earth will only use them if they are really needed.

By the way, what kind of payload is carried by the physical shells fired from the Shock Cannons and the missiles that the Yamato uses? I don't think they use conventional chemical explosive.

Well, they didn't have many occasions to fire them. When attacked at Balun they just ran for the gate to avoid the enemy trap. Inside Geschtam Space standard beam weapons seem to be dispersed upon firing so they're rendered useless. Realising this, they used the type 2 cartridges.

As for the WMG, until i see this subbed and actually understand what is being said in episode 24, i can't be sure of it but from what i've gotten from japanese fans, there's been no ban of the WMG. That "lid" thing seems to be part of the CRS. We can see it being deployed in the episode 26 PV. The CRS probably needs a lot of power to do its thing. If they hadn't built the WMG, they probably would have to come up with something similar to use the CRS. But with the WMG already there and ready for use, they went with that. I believe it's not wether or not you have a WMG but the way you use it that is important for Starsha. After Hyss tells her how the Yamato used it to save Baleras and Yurisha reports on her time aboard the Yamato, Starsha might have been convinced that that power was in good hands and that they'll use it only as a last resort. Thus she decided they were worthy of salvation and gave them the CRS. The other thing holding her back, and perhaps even more than the WMG, was giving up her loved one.

I guess she had to use Mamoru's memory and can't make duplicate copies or find a substitute.

I was browsing through OurStarBlazers and found that 2199 might have incorporated some elements of the early Yamato draft and that of the alternative novel versions.

http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/216/

Anyway, I am glad that there is a future for Yamato. Eagerly waiting for the novelisation.

Another thing I discovered was that it was always illogical for the original Yamato to hold 40+ fighters if you compare them with any scaled model. Sometimes the fighters had to be downsized just to fit into the toy. The PS2 games showed a hangar with 16 compartments but the Cosmo Tigers still had to be down scaled to fit in.

The new 2199 Yamato merchandise actually made an effort to jam all the Cosmo Falcons into two revolver bays just to make the Battle Star idea plausible. However, I could not locate the sleeping quarters from the Yamato Earth Settings book. Having a former industrial designer work on Sci-Fi mecha does make a difference.

How large do you figure Dessler's new flagship is? The Command section seems smaller than Yamato, but the main ship seems to be at least twice as long as Yamato.

Thought on it?

I'd say about 500 meters long.

And i just finished watching episode 26 at Bandai Channel... WOW. That's how you end an amazing series. Haters will hate it, true fans will love it and cry their eyes out.

Hence the warning. Though i'm trying to keep Episode 26 out of it. I will post an Episode description here later tonight, properly spoiler tagged for those who don't mind them But believe me. No amount of words, spoiler or otherwise, can begin to describe how beautifully done this Episode was.
