Just a clarifivation. HLJ's Private Warehouse system allows you to keep your purchases but only for a period of 2 months. As for the shipping fees, they only tell you how much it costs for the products already in stock, pre-orders will not have that available until the actual product comes out.

Thanks. I wasn't really sure on the details of that since I don't use it that often.

How does it compare with AmiAmi though? I've not used either so I'm doing pricing comparisons and trying to get some idea from previous costumers on how one is compared to the other.

I haven't used AmiAmi so i can't help you, there. All i can say is HLJ has never failed me. I have had a couple of issues in the past, no direct fault of theirs, but they always got my back.

I think we are expecting some kind of trailer in the next week or so.

Also, a key word has come out in terms of content for the film (Yamato 2199: Ark of the Stars) coming in December:

"GATLANTIS"

That is excellent news.
I do so want to see how the 2199 team handles the introduction of Gatlantis into the new version.

If the planet with the two streams of energy coming out of the poles is Gatlantis, then that makes me wonder if the 2199 production team isn't giving Kudos to Matsumoto-san's Queen Mellennia series. Since the planet in this preview looks like Lar Metal from the movie (with the rings).

Planet Lar Maetal had a protective energy field around it and it was a planetary ark that the Mellennians rode around on (like mythological planet Nibiru).
In the original TV show it destroyed Jupiter, in the movie, it only damages Jupiter and the rings around the planet Lar Maetal are from its encounter with the now destroyed 5th planet of our solar system.
Since Matsumoto added Yamato to a few of his manga (Galaxy Express 999 being one of them) in cameo shots, it makes me wonder if the Yamato 2199 team isn't honoring him by doing the same through stylization of ships, characters, and such.
Combining Lar Maetal and Gatlantis would be very BAD ASS in my humble opinion (in style/concept only) and could perhaps open the doorway for more possibilities beyond the original SBY storyline.
Many fans from all over the world have always put the Harlock, Galaxy Express, and other Matsumoto works into the same (or similar) universe as Yamato (I know they are different, and for purists this is dead wrong).

Or, this could just be coincidence, or that planet could be Telezart, etc.

Well, with that music, there is no doubt what's coming.

I wonder if this is pre-combat traveling city Gatlantis, and this is a whole moon in the White Comet? Or is that just the bottom of it? If this is while Yamato is on the way home...she doesn't have the wave motion gun installed anymore.

It looks scary with that music though. Could there be more than one White Comets?

A translation of the story on Yamato Crew's site via Ourstarblazers.com

Quote:
Completely new feature film
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 "Ark of the Stars"

A hidden story from the year 2199 is revealed now!...

In 2199, Yamato was departing from the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Calm air flowed between the crew, who had received the "Cosmo Reverse System."

At the edge of the Large Magellanic Cloud, Yamato encountered a mysterious fleet that suddenly appeared.
They were called "Gatlantis" and demanded that Yamato be handed over.

Yamato was in a hurry to return to Earth and avoid combat.
But an unknown entity appeared to block their path.

Yamato warped out in the nick of time, but in front of their eyes appeared the figure of a planet floating in a strangely-colored (light grey) space…

Coming December 6 (Saturday)!

Additional pondering: I wonder what types of ships the Comet Empire fleet will bring to the film? We have sheen three ship types and one attack craft type during 2199. Will they have their battleships, antimatter missile cruisers and the twin deck carrier? Will be interesting to see.

That was a very foreboding trailer... the Yamato on its way back, before the encounter with Dessler, without the Wave Motion Gun, and facing off against a new and mysterious enemy with Okita still alive? Sounds like it's going to be an exciting and awesome movie .

Still hoping to see that scene of Kodai and Yuki taking that funny picture animated .

Some more Yamamoto/Shinohara and Misaki/Hoshina scenes wouldn't hurt either .

Apologies for this stupid question from someone whose just gotten into Yamato, but this movie is introducing the Comet Empire right? The main villains of the second Yamato season? If so, it would be nice if this movie acts as a prelude to the second season of 2199 focusing on that conflict .

Technically they introduced the Comet Empire already in Yamato 2199 with the Gamilas fighting them at the borders in Episode 11 and several of their people being held prisoner in Episode 21. But yes, it seems we will be getting some taste of the real power of the Comet Empire. Perhaps even Gatlantis itself.

That music is unmistakable.

If I recall correctly, they were the race that Dommel was leading the effort against before he was called back to take on the Yamato right?

Taking possible inspiration from the upcoming film, I decided to run a Yamato 2199 version of Star Blazer Fleet Battle Systems at KublaCon this last weekend. Pitting Dessler against the Comet Empire before he would go on to encounter Yamato at Balun.

Due to this being played in a Star Blazers system, I used the old English dub names for the writeup.

It is long and has pictures.

TL;DR…

I will say that I expected the Comet Empire to win this battle when I designed it. They have a lot more firepower than the Gamilas ships, so I had the Gamilas with 8 more ships than the Comet Empire to compensate. Most of that being the high speed cruisers and a few more destroyers. It turns out that the Gamilas fleet has a lot more missiles than the Comet fleet does. By around 100 more missiles per turn for two turns. Then it evens out almost.

I can think of ways for the Comet Empire to win the fight, but it depends on tactics and a bit of luck with the dice. That ore massively smap their own missiles the first turn possible to clear out as many of the Gamilas destroyers as they can, and thus deprive the Gamilas of their missile advantage. This is what the Gamilas were doing with their missiles. Targeting the Cometine destroyers to get rid of a large number of enemy guns (each Comet Destroyer has eight short range gun batteries and 8 missiles, while a Gamilas Destroyer has two short range gun batteries and 20 missiles, not all of which can shoot at once). The Comet cruisers were also a threat, but the destroyers wer the main target of the missile suppression, with their cruisers getting a cluster once their escorts were distracted. The Cometine ships focused on the Gamilas cruisers for the majority of the game, and left the destroyers alone, and only focusing on the battleships late in the game.

I've been thinking about a possible second series. If it follows like the original version of events than the series would start with Kodai returning to Earth from a long patrol in time to see Andromeda launch, which happens to be on the anniversary of Yamato's return to Earth.

With the changes in Yamato 2199, that would place this date as December 8th, 2201. Two years after Yamato returns to Earth. This would give them more time to rebuild while not pushing the timeline forward much. The majority of the series would probably take place in 2202, depending on how long it takes to get to Telezart and back. I'd figure they would attempt more symbolism with dates again. Having the start on the date Yamato returned to Earth being episode one, and perhaps the final episodes being on or around the date Yamato left Earth (February 12th). Or if they want the timeline to be a bit longer, take it out to either April 7th (date the IJN Yamato sank) or June 4th for the Battle of Saturn to mimic the Battle of Midway.

There are ways...

Aside from ordering all the Blu-ray discs for Yamato 2199 from Japan, there is also the moderately cheaper North American release under the title of "Star Blazers 2199". Volume 3 of 6 comes out this month with episodes 9-12. Reports to date suggest the only major difference between Yamato 2199 and Star Blazers 2199 is the title. Everything else is the same. It is subtitled into English and Spanish in the Star Blazers 2199 discs (DVD or BD) while it is only subtitled into English on the Yamato 2199 BDs.
