Well it's simple: AnimeSuki shows the time in whatever timezone the server is set to.
Take my mirror for example: RPGuru.com is hosted on a server in Texas, but the timezone is set to GMT+2 (CET) nonetheless. I guess the server admin changed the timezone setting to UTC a while ago, which unfortunatly means the "advertised" timezone on the mirror page was incorrect (I've changed it now). Since I'm working on the rewrite of AnimeSuki anyway, I'll check if it is possible to make timezone user-selectable. Problem is that the HTML of AnimeSuki needs to be cachable: if every page for every visitor is generated dynamically, you'd need a very powerful server for just AnimeSuki alone, while it is now sharing one comfortably with several other sites. |

Ah, sorry about that - I didn't realize the time zone change would affect AnimeSuki. I changed over to UTC while upgrading the server in late February, since we have a lot of users outside the U.S., and keeping track of records is much easier when you don't have to worry about time zones. ^_^

GHDpro: What about those PHP cache programs? Like Zend Optimizer (commercial) & Turck MMCache (GPL). If server has enought RAM, Turck should be pretty good. On their test, it was about five time faster than regular PHP page. I have also made my own test and results were pretty similar (Turck <-> normal php).

Agreed - Zend Optimizer has worked very well for me in the past. Caching doesn't help on servers (such as mine) where PHP is run as a CGI, but I think pretty much everyone else runs it as a module. (I can just run a separate Apache instance for AnimeSuki if need be.)

Nah, it's already fixed. The rewritten scripts will display all "rows" on a page (torrents,
series, whatever) using a Javascript function. And this Javascript function will automatically convert the date to whatever timezone your PC is set to. The scripts are still in the early stages, but here is a TINY preview: http://v2.animesuki.com/series.php (Compare the time the "Updated" column is set to to what you see on the AnimeSuki Sandwich.net mirror main page) PLEASE BE AWARE: - This script is NOT finished yet! - There are still bugs! - Don't ask when it will be finished & when the main site & all mirrors will use these scripts. |

Well the final version will still contain the links. Then on the "Series" page for that licensed
series I can include something like: "This series is licensed. AnimeSuki does not link to licensed series. For an explaination of what licensed means, check this page." The reason I included the "All Series" category is actually to have a place to send people to who ask "Where did series XYZ go? Is it licensed?" -- then you can send them to that page to confirm this, or to show that the series simply doesn't have any active torrents (series with "X" icons). |

Hmm, yeah, I've been doing some thinking... perhaps including ALL licensed series in that list
isn't a good idea. It's for example pretty pointless to include series in that list that have been licensed ages ago. So I'm now thinking about only including licensed series which have been modified in the past 2-4 weeks. And the last modification for a series is usually when it is marked as licensed. The exception will be right after the introduction of the "new" AnimeSuki, when all series records will have been updated to include the new info that can be stored in the new database field, like vintage, genres, etc. but that still would mean most licensed series will be gone 2-4 weeks after that. |

in the database -- those you can see in the list right now. These were either added by mistake, or simply because at the time the first fansubs were put on BT they were not licensed yet. So Vandread won't ever be in that list, but what I was specifically referring to was that series like .Hack//Dusk won't be shown, yet series like Chrno Crusade (assuming for a second it was licensed less than a month ago) would be... |
