It's obvious why she gets ignored, since she is a manga only character (or so I have been told by people who have read the manga).

No. It's a running joke that was taken straight from the manga. And I'm a manga reader (now) as well.

Besides, if she was a manga-only character, she wouldn't be in the anime.

She is not in the anime , at least not in the first season, I don't know what are you talking about. I just read that there is a character named akarin in the manga which is weird because I watched the anime and a character named akarin never appears in it.

But if there is no such character in the anime, and the anime is based on the manga, then how are you so sure this character is in the latter, but not in the former, if it's supposedly the same character?

Side-note, I think this joke is getting very old now
