I wish ecchitron would watch this one. Malkuth, you need to spy him by sending the first episode of SenColle, right ?

Nah, the second episode is more suitable for lolitron, while the fourth was made for me and TheEroKing

... always only considering this kind of motivation

What comes to make the film "Baghdad Cafe" here because it has nothing to do with the anime

Rustic setting, depressed and burnt out staff, hopelessness, suffocating society... but that's from my memories from elementary school... about two decades ago

If one takes away the occasional silliness, and the colorful dresses the time-travelers wear, this anime is very depressing

The first thirteen episodes are in episodic format due to characters' presentations and after that, the second arc is continuous. Because you have loved this episode, I'm pretty sure you have liked the two girls appearing in it.

My favorite episode is the first episode due to Nobunaga Oda being here. It's rare for me to like the first main character in anime, but I loved Gon in Hunter X Hunter.

I really begun liking (and taking seriously) the anime since episode 3 and progressively becomes better, if only it did not resort in some silly twist to resolve each episode in a happy tone as well as oversimplifying some situation, it would have topped my list.

Back on the film references, the yakuza episode could have borrowed and/or referenced the gerne rather than the real gangs, and the reporter episode reminded a lot of 80s american leftist films about the corruption of mass media.

Yeah so far I've kept coming back because since each episode featured a different character they all felt like 1st episodes so even if I didn't like an episode I knew that had no impact on the following week's episode, that's about to change though since the plot is about to start.

hehehe, these days when I hear that a plot is about to kick in I am getting really scarred that it will totally mess up a watchable (if not good) anime

Sorry for the late reply, real life gets in the way. I was only referring to the most recent episode that had a very similar plot to the film Baghdad Café.

Odd character with an unusual talent turns up at run-down café-cum-motel with a very grumpy owner. Brings happiness & finds it herself, without setting out to do that.

Really, if you've seen the film, they are so close it has to be a deliberate homage. Plus what Malkuth wrote about the mood and setting.

Yes I loved the two characters in the episode "Pure Angel" and thus to the season 2 we see them again? Normally, yes? hihi

The DVD cover look so damn cute, I still surprise this serie would be long with the litle
popularity that she have, anyway, I like very much Basho, one of my favorite now.

What about importing directly from Japan? In Greece and Germany it was just expensive, but in UK borderline illegal (victimless crimes, conservatives, and all that kind of non-sense). I am under the impression that in France it was more liberal, at least they didn't give me much trouble when ordering what was impossible here in London, while in Paris (Prisma Illya to be precise).

SenColle 08 - Hideyoshi in Riceland

Out of haiku mode
Even after a week, it's still there
Totally surreal

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Hideyoshi remarked.
'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Scarecrow: 'we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'

We begin with Pink Elephants on Parade, and eventually segue into a strange mix of Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz and some third thing I can't put my finger on. Last week was rather gritty and down to Earth, but this... was one of the most surreal things to air this season. Sure, it was all an elaborate rice dream, but the discussions with the scarecrow and in the desert bordered on the kind of stuff you'd see in a visual novel between plot events, or in a philosophy thesis. Hideyoshi was just along for the ride, really, the main character of these events was the world itself.

This show continues to slide under the radar, but I don't think any other show this season will even get close to trying out an episode like this one. That was enjoyable, if suitably bizarre.

Next week: A two-parter? And after this week, it looks like one of the most normal episodes to date. But I shouldn't let my guard down.
