There are 600 cards you need to collect while clearing quests and defeating new bosses.

Was looking at the japanese wiki and it seems that japanese fans are speculating every episode is based on a life action movie (I still say speculation because I can't find anything that confirms this on the website)

So for exemple just like some in this thread pointed out,episode 7 would be based on Bagdad Café
Or episode 8 is based on this trippy version of Alice in Wonderland

The last arc is supposed to be based on a korean action film named Volcano High

Ah, I saw that one covered on Brows Held High. Hideyoshi really had no idea what she was getting into.

The full list from the Wiki, just to see if it can spark some conversation:
Nobunaga: Roman Holiday (not the first anime homage to it. I remember one in Strike Witches 2)
Ieyasu: A Star is Born
Kanetsugu and Kenshin: Der Himmel über Berlin/Wings of Desire
Masamune: Female Convict 701: Scorpion
Bokuden: Bowling for Columbine (that's something I never thought I'd see associated with anime.)
Gennai: Back to the Future (okay, we sort of guessed that one.)

And the others were already listed.

Finding this out just increased my respect for this show several times over. Is it still a cute Sengoku girls show? Of course it is, that's why I got into it in the first place. But now it has an additional layer of culture to it, a treat for seasoned film buffs, and people who wish to become film buffs. There's still several more episodes left to go to see what the show will do with the plotlines it's set up (the search for the Treasures, Yoshimoto's counter-strategy), but now I'm more excited than before. By drawing from the past, this show has carved out its own future.

Makes sense of a niggling feeling of I've had about this series since it began. Can't claim I've recognised all the references, or have seen all the originals but: -
  • didn't think about it until now but "Roman Holiday", yes I can see that;
  • did get a strong "A Star is Born" vibe while watching Ieyasu's episode;
  • haven't seen the film it's supposed to be based on but Date Masamune's episode did feel like a live-action crime drama;
  • Michael Moore parody was noted;
  • haven't actually seen "Back to the Future" but I've seen enough clips to get the references to unlikely time-travelling devices and eccentric scientists; don't know about the plot;
  • I've posted about Bashō's episode previously.

I know little or nothing about the other films, although it was obvious that the Hideyoshi episode was influenced by something outside anime's normal pool of reference.

What to make of this? Again it confirms that, for me at least, although this is by no means the best series of this season it is the most interesting.

As for the last couple episodes, I do like how Soun is so enthusiastic about battle but always responds to what Jun says in such a reasonable manner. I wonder what Yoshimoto has against Nobunaga in their version of Sengoku history? Did she get transported to the modern world at the moment when she should have died at Dengakuhazama, like Nobunaga did at Honnoji? Why were all these people who died at different times all transported to the same time in the modern world? Oh well, I expect we'll find out eventually, meanwhile I'll just sit back and see what the next episode brings.

SengColle 11 - Lucky-Go-Round

This is the biggest, and only show still on today, with a volleyball tournament overriding everything else [<- of the shows I watch], so I'm counting on this show more than usual. It's been a week since the true nature of the show was uncovered, and I spent this episode wondering what movie it might have been homaging. I'll continue checking back with the Wiki to see where it leads. Neither country nor date is a barrier to the producers' sensibilities.

Hisahide was an interesting character, more of an anti-hero than most of the girls we've seen thus far. The tone of the episode, simultaneously slick and grimy, contrasting the city streets with the bright lights of the casino, was carried off really well. Even the music was kept low-key and full of pianos, letting the stakes of the casino atmosphere take over. That Hisahide wasn't really dead was foreshadowed pretty obviously in the start of the episode, but the payoff (in multiple sense of the word) brought it all full circle. This series knows exactly how ambitious it wants to be and is, for the most part, following through on it.

Our time with rebels and urban environments doesn't look to be over quite yet.

There are 26, which means plenty more movie homages to come.

There are 26 episodes? Or 13 episodes of season 2? Because someone had told me there'd have a season 2

We have 2 left character-driven episodes. After that, the real story will starts ! (it's my own speculation) And yeah, it's confirmed to be 26 episodes rather than having a second season like you said.

You're acting like it's absoloutely true, though. I've seen nothing anywhere else that indicates what kind of content the second half will have.

In short, a season or two of 13 episodes this season with 26 episodes ... one or the other does not change her. LOL
