While the stuff with Deneil is entertaining, it wasn't my favorite moment of the episode. That came from Nitta, in response to the T-38 instructors mocking Mutta (in his absence, always a high-class move) for his low score in the T-38 exam. His friends know the truth of why that happened of course, but it's a measure of how much ground Mutta has won with his old teammates that it's Nitta who steps up and tells the instructors to step off. For a Japanese person to publicly say that to a senpai - never mind in a quasi-military setting - is extraordinarily difficult. That was a true show of loyalty from Nitta there.

The fishbowl filling with water is probably covered in training somewhere.

...to that end, I do wish the training episodes were moving at a slightly greater pace, since watching these characters come up with creative solutions to unusual problems is of greater interest to me than the three episodes that went into Vincent and Pico's backstory.

That last shot of the upside-down plane in midair was absolutely breathtaking...

Woah, that was one of those awesome episodes of this show that inspire you and make you feel like you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. That main musical score is really something special, too. Sometimes it just really hits you in all the right ways. Episodes like this are what make me LOVE this show sometimes in a manner unlike basically any other anime.

I have to say that I'm enjoying the hell out of the flight training segment of the show. At first I thought it would be just a typical trial for Mutta to overcome, but the more we see him stare into the infinite beyond from a upright and overturned cockpit, the more you appreciate the big and baby steps he's taking to reach his dream. Likewise Deneil Young isn't a typical carefree old fart, I find him to be a well written mentor character who disposes timely nuggets of wisdom.

Once again the scenes of the space and sky are absolutely breathtaking, especially the one again where the plane is overturned and you get to see the horizon dividing space and the sky.

I agree, that was a beautiful image.

I also loved the scene in with Mutta and Deneil in the hangar at the end, brought a tear to my eye and is a great example of how this show can reach the emotions without being overstated.

There were indeed some beautiful shots in the last couple episodes. I'm enjoying this "training arc" a lot as well. I'm loving Deneil. He's a funny and wise old man.

This was one of the show's better introspective episodes, even if the title card was a huge spoiler.

The bunny ears fad was a little... alarming.

Another awesome episode. This show is on a hot streak for the past few weeks. Somehow, I found it very touching that both brothers picked out the same gift. Reminds me of the similarities I share with my brothers.

That was a sweet episode. Liked the serious focus on Sharon and mixed in Hibito's return home. Certainly everything else wasn't nearly as important as the couple of hours he could spend there with Sharon. She really is such a huge existence for both Mutta and Hibito. Was funny how they both chose the same gift. Just very fitting and shows how they did put a lot of thought into what might cheer Sharon up a bit.

Has to be unsettling seeing how things are slowly deteriorating for Sharon. Already to the point of moving around with a cane. May not be able to play the piano anymore, but at least there are ways for her still to play music. Can just feel how much Sharon must be hurting seeing the things she could do so easily before slip away.

That was so heartwarming. This arc has made it clear just how much the two brothers care about Sharon.

The string of great episodes continues, but all I could think about in the end was, "Wow, Mutta must've spent more on shipping than he did on the actual keyboard to get it to Japan so quickly."

I couldn't help noticing that the manga's author, Chuuya Koyama, was credited for episode 68's script along with the show's usual scriptwriter, Yoichi Kato. Did this episode include any all-new material that wasn't in the manga?
