I'm actually really loving this shift towards *ahem* Hibichov. The world in this series has built up a really big hero mythos for Hibito and his exploits especially with the recent near catastrophe on the moon. So much so that even Mutta's starting to join the rest of the world in putting Hibito on a pedestal.

And yet we get to see that he's also still a young man who isn't immune to the stress and pressures of his job, and like others who have experienced life or death situations has to deal with PTSD. It just so happens that Hibito is very good with hiding his feelings.

Hibbitoo "I had date with your underage daughter whose videos I like to watch"

Daddy "Well, I think your desease is one that can't be cured even with vodka, maybe better you go home now"

This episode didn't do much for me, since I knew from the start this romance wouldn't go anywhere. I hope I'm wrong but I think Olga will never be seen again. Her role, which was to lift Hibito's spirits, is done.

i think im the only one who doesnt like hibito's story (and his romance... and of course mr.hibitt!)
the only hibito's story i liked was the near-death experience in the moon.
i like "road to become astronaut" more than "the life of astronaut"
i like mutta far better.

I subscribe to the Maurice Chevalier theory that the youngest person you can date without seeming creepy is half your age plus seven. Unfortunately for Olga, this means a relationship between her and Hibito won't be socially acceptable until she's 29.

And if anyone missed it, Crunchyroll just announced that they've licensed the manga. If you have an all-access pass you'll be able to read the whole series, otherwise it'll be $4.99/month for their manga service.

Hibito's story continues to bore. The part about him being assigned to a "safety supervisor" position woke me up though. It seems as though the author has enough of this tripple A bullshit that's plaguing Japan. I suspected all along that he was criticizing his country. The "safety supervisor" thing coupled with old men making a decision to squander a youth's potential has me convinced this is the case. I'd like to see how NASA and JAXA are going to revert their decision, as I don't see any chance of them achieving this gracefully. Retiring an astronaut out of safety concerns seems reasonable, this is why the panic disorder thing shouldn't have been done in the first place, or at the very least not taken to Hibito's extreme.

Also, I'm disappointed that you guys are discussing Olga x Hibito's whatifs. Any actual, physical romance between the two would have been distasteful. Enough said.

I'm not familiar with what's going on in Japanese political circles these days, so I don't know what the "Safety Supervisor" thing might be commenting on. It reminded me of Alan Shepard, who was promoted to Chief of the Astronaut Office after developing Ménière's disease. It took five years and some newly-developed surgical techniques, but he did get himself restored to flight status and went to the Moon as commander of Apollo 14 (where he made his famous lunar golf shot).

I was refering to the tripple A of "anzen, antei, anshin," the "safety, stability, peace of mind" national mentality that's being used as a sort of scape goat for delaying change and disabling other things. They want to make Hibito into a safety symbol. Make an example out of him that good Japanese persons shouldn't be doing stuff like taking crazy risks, better safe than sorry. Anyway, you can probably read a dozen of critics on this topic, I certainly didn't do justice to it. It's an ongoing thing.

Definitely taller than Mutta, and has been since they were kids despite being younger. Since Gagarin is the only one in the series whose height has been established and the one Hibito was standing next to was about 3 meters tall, there's no context - but I'd guess Hibito is about 5'11" based on the Houston scenes.

Now that I watched this......

Olga and Hibito are cute...but HELL TO THE NO! She can play wife in about ten years when she's at least legal.

Anyway, I actually didn't mind the Russia storyline, despite how icky Olga/Hibito is. But...I miss Mutta and his nuttiness.

Almost hate to point this out, but you do realize that in Japan she only needs a few more months to be old enough to be legal?

I'm rather amused that by all appearances, us "old folks" in this group are a lot less bothered by the idea of Hibito and Olga getting together than you "young folks" are.
