More or less ordered for me:

I don't have enough for a proper full 10 list. But I have a top 7 for now. It's done so because these shows to me are excellent above and beyond anything else, that I can't pick a number 8-10 just to fill out spots. Numbers 7 to 2 aren't in any particular order. I can't really differentiate between them, especially since some are of different genres. So I'm listing them in order that I watched them (which is basically the order they came out, from earliest to latest):

^ Well, they're not exactly in order. I'm a sucker for high school romance. So why don't I have CLANNAD up there? Well, I like CLANNAD but it didn't exactly made quite an impact (story-wise) like Kanon did.

1. Dragon Ball Z
This show introduced me to Anime and without it I may not be the Anime enthusiast I am today. I don't even remember how I ended up watching it, but the action scenes were unlike anything I've ever seen in animation before. The great characters and great humor didn't hurt either.

2. Naruto(+Shippuden)
After DBZ ran its course, I ignored Anime for awhile thinking I would never see anything like it again. Some time later, ads and word of mouth was everywhere about this show. I was actually working out of the country where the only entertainment I had was my internet. So I started watching this to past the time. Greatest decision I've ever made. Great storytelling, great humor, great characters, great villians, and great action. Take away the filler(which I could see them doing a KAI version of this later on like with DBZ) and in my opinion this is the Greatest Anime of all Time.

Yeah I said it! Fuck You! Now here's where it gets tricky.

3. Samurai Champloo
Other than the first 2. This show is the most addictive there is. I'm so glad I waited till my vacation to watch it. And I'm so upset that there are only 26 episodes. Why can't they make a few more seasons? I can't remember any flaws with this one. I enjoyed everything about it, EXCEPT THE DAMN 26 EPS!

4. Elfen Lied
Before watching this anime I mostly stuck to the ninja/samurai. This anime opened my eyes in realizing other genres came be just as addictive and amazing.

5. Full Metal Alchemist(+Brotherhood)
To me, no other anime has better character development than this one. Being a sibling myself the relationship between Ed and Al affected me on a level no other anime had before and has ever since. When they were happy, I was happy, and when they were upset at each other, I cried like a little pansy. I think I cried more times watching this than any other.

6. Berserk
Talk about one unbelievable piece of mind-fuck that we all call the final episode. The anime ended and I just sat there staring at the screen wandering what the hell did I just watch. Mission accomplished! This show deserves more seasons. It needs to have all those questions answered.

7. Samurai X(+series & OVAs)
First anime I ever bought on DVD. I borrowed the movie from a friend and was completely blown away. So much so that I bought everything on DVD, and this was back when each season cost over a $100. Everything was worth the price except for maybe the final season. Overall this is a classic.

8. Bakemonogateri
Death Note was the 1st anime that introduced me to the 90% dialogue driven animes. But this is the best I've seen. Oh yeah, and I consider Hitagi Senjougahara the greatest female anime character ever created with Suruga Kanbaru not far behind. That's 2 great female characters and for once a strong male lead to go with it. Thumbs Ups for being one of the few to do a harem anime the way its suppose to be done.

9. Ergo Proxy
Child characters can be beyond annoying to me. Up to this point all I've seen are nothing but cookie-cutter interpretations. But little Pino was just so cute she melted my stone cold heart and restored my faith that child characters aren't all bad. Add another one to the greatest female characters list. And the rest of the cast is very strong as well. I guess it really means something when you can't remember much about the story but yet know you thoroughly enjoyed this anime. Got the DVD on the way.

10. Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
Why in the hell aren't there more shows of this outrageous mess of an Anime? And why aren't there more shows like it? This is a guilty pleasure choice. Whenever I'm feeling down I just re-visit some moments of Sakura getting his head imploded from Dokuro's spiked bat. It never gets old. Very bloody, very ecchi, and very entertaining.

Honorable Mentions:
Ninja Scroll - 1st Anime movie I've ever watched.
Ghost Story - Screw the Sub. The hilarious English dub alone makes this a Classic!
The World God Only Knows 1 & 2 - Probably laughed more times watching this than any other anime.
Baka To Test - Biggest surprise, as it turned out to be WAY better than expected.
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom - Yes this anime has plenty of flaws but Zwei & Ein are one of the greatest duos in Anime to me.
B Gata H Kei - One of the most entertaining storylines I've ever had the pleasure of viewing.

If it's any consolation, I didn't really absorb the story until the second time I watched it. But, like you, still loved it the first time.

Grasping the story was just icing on the cake. And, yea, if children were like Pino, I might actually contemplate having one.

Usually episodic shows tend to have weak endings, given the content of one episode rarely affects another. I expected the same from this show, but man it was a chilling ending. Excellent show. Seto no Hanayome: Spoiler for Reasons: Great comedy show. Good comedies are a rare thing for me, because when I first watched anime I had this thing where I found it so hard to laugh at things. I sometimes wondered if it was just me but along come a few shows that could make me laugh, and this was one of them. Great, funny cast. Random stuff happening all over the place yet still some semblance of plot continuity. Sure there were a couple of down moments, but the overall show made up for those. Too bad the show only had 1 season and a couple of OVAs. It could've gone on a lot more. Hayate no Gotoku: Spoiler for Reasons: Technically this came out before SnH I believe, but it's the second season that really got me and even then, it's mainly because of Hinagiku. Her whole character and personality I liked from the first season, but it picked up in the second. Sure, it's more comedy than romance, but the whole Hinagiku arc really got to me like few romance arcs do. That's 90% of the reason it's on my list. Aside from that, the manga helped me appreciate the comedy and the story a lot better, because the timeline is better told. The anime kinda mixes it up. So it ends up being the whole package that I really like. Unfortunately, this has the best chance of dropping out of my list, depending how the story goes I guess. Haven't been reading the manga much in hope of a third anime season. Kemono no Souja Erin: Spoiler for Reasons: What can I say, an awesome slice of life + fantasy show. From the beginning, when you just knew something was gonna happen. And the whole of Erin's journey through life. Sure it was a bit weird having songs inserted into every episode, and the overall story could've been told in way less episodes, but the whole thing just stuck to me. Erin being an awesome character and just her story really. A whole roller-coaster ride of emotions. And not just Erin, the support cast was great too. Some didn't like the ending, though I did. Hard to put into words, but I loved it. Katanagatari: Spoiler for Reasons: I watched this as it came out. So a whole year waiting every month for a single ~40 minute episode. And it was worth it. Another adventure show but with more action than Kino's Journey. I loved the way it was handled too, being released every month. It kinda felt like you were waiting for Shichika and Togame to travel every month before an episode came out of their journey for that month (something like watching Haruhi S1 in it's aired order). I was skeptical of putting this on my list, especially considering the supposedly best fight didn't get animated. Instead just glossed over (albeit the episode that was shown instead was still pretty good). The places and people the MC's went to and met were great. The interaction between the MC's was great too, with some great antagonist. The ending was the cake though. Even if I wished they animated 'the best fight', the ending was so very moving that this show will definitely make my list. Ano Hana: Spoiler for Reasons: Best show from last year. I was debating again whether to put this in my list, but since I can hands down put this as my best show last year, and view it so high above the other stuff that it's in it's own league, well that's what this list is for. Heart-warming drama, heart-wrenching too, about 5 teenagers who grew apart after childhood. Some comedic moments, some touching moments, great beginning and great end. The middle was a bit slow, but it helped flesh out some characters. I like how the plot played out too, with the 'wish' having actually already been granted a couple of episodes before the end. Great characters too, I think all of the main cast had memorable moments that made you feel for them. Special props to Tsuruko! And those 6 make my numbers 7-2. That show is: School Rumble: Spoiler for Reasons: You might've guessed from my avatar and sig. It started off as a pure comedy. And like I said earlier, comedy didn't always gel with me, but this did. So it started with comedy, which was hit or miss really to begin with (heck I remember thinking the female lead was annoying), but it just all gradually grew. The show kept progressing with plot continuity, and the characters, for all the similar situations they faced, were always 'different' after those arcs. And it's the characters that carried this show. Where most shows seem stubborn in stereotyping characters into kuudere, tsundere, bishie and whatnot, the characters in SR felt like real people - in an over the top comedy show. Sure they had those stereotypical traits and a hell of a lot was over the top, but it didn't define them, it was just part of their overall personality. And this is true for every main character. And it made the comedy all the better once you knew them. A lot of it was silly, but it became honest because of that. Harima will always be a great male lead. A knuckle-head who's sometimes way too stupid, but again coming off honest because of that. His tunnel-vision love being a breath of fresh air too. No proper third season to the anime (so I had to read the manga) is a downright shame. And even the ending, that so many disliked, I felt fine with. Instead of a happily ever after end where the show practically tells you there's no need to think of stuff after the ending, SR's end is still technically open-ended, and your imagination can lead you to however you want it to go.
