This series is so hardcore and touching at the same time. I really would like Harada-sensei to win. But I think Arata will win this one.

I'm not so sure, considering Suou's comments.

Poor Harada. It's rather horrible how he missed his chance when he was younger.

Brace yourselves. Looks like there's a really sad story behind Suou.

The latest chapters were fantastic, gotta feel sorry for Shinobu. I'm wondering if the Okinawa person at the end of 128 is related to Suou's story or simply an upcoming new kid for the caruta club.

That's why I said there'd be a sad story.

From the clues:
she's a relative of Suou's with the same eye disease, but worse. That's why she needs a big screen, and can only see a small part of it. She'd see nothing with a setup like Arata's. The problem: the Meijin match isn't broadcasted on TV anymore. She'd need to use the internet, but whoever Suou was speaking with on the phone is too computer illiterate to find the broadcast and/or connect the big TV to the computer and mirror the screen. Suou didn't lose the first two games just to mess with Harada. He was buying time for those issues to be fixed.

It was easier when he was just a weirdo and a jerk. Now I don't know who to root for.

So here's what I'm thinking. Suou wins the Meijin title (this scenario has Tom Watson at Turnberry written all over it for Harada). He retires, which frees up the next Meijin title match to come down to Arata vs. Taichi. Suou becomes Taichi's Karuta mentor (there have been hints already). Series builds to a grand finale with Chihaya defeating Shinobu, and the loser of the Meijin match ending up with Chihaya romantically.

Heh, not exactly. The similarities would be so broad that it could hardly be called imitation - and can you seriously imagine Suetsugu having the same guy lose both the Meijin title and Chihaya? Even as much as she loves to stick it to Taichi?

It really feels to me like this is the direction things are headed, and Harada-sensei was a sacrifice to the greater needs of the plot. Where can the story go if he wins? Arata and Taichi meeting in the challenger final? It could happen, but it doesn't have the same dramatic punch. I suppose Harada could win and immediately announce he's going to retire as champion...

Unfortunately, yes. Much as I like him, I'm afraid Taichi won't get anything he wants. Not the Meijin title, and not Chihaya.

That would be one hell of a message to send as an author.

I still think one of the absolutely crucial moments in the series came in Episode 20 (I don't know what chapter that was), which is one of the finest scenes in the series as well. Harada is standing on that train platform with Taichi and he thinks “Frustration won’t last forever. Nobody can keep on going without some measure of reward." I really feel as if Suetsugu was hinting something larger about Taichi's arc (which has been the most extensive in the series by a wide margin) there, and in how she views him as an author. We'll see.

I'm sorry, I don't really have the time to go into it.

But you can get spoilers on the ******** forums.
