Time slip
(I've pretty much beaten this show to death on a couple of mailing lists I'm on, and if you THINK you've read this before... you probably have.. ^_^;;; ) Anyone else notice the time discontinuities? Episodes 1-3 take place in the fall. So do 4-5 (the Yellow Rose thing). The elections in episode 6? I always assumed it happened right after episode 5, but now I'm not so sure.. Now.. episodes 7, 8 and 9 - these take place when? February. St. Valentine's Day or thereabouts. If the preview on episode 11 is to be believed, episode 12 happens the weekend after episode 9 ends. But.. episode 10 and 11? These take place at CHRISTMAS. Hmmmmmmm....... We went back in time here... ^_^;; And yes, it's the same school year (Rosa Gigantea hasn't graduated yet), though, of course, the flashback that takes up most of episode 11 takes place the previous year, culminating on the previous Christmas. So what the heck is going on? ^_^;; They must've inserted a later chapter in the manga between episodes 9 and 12.. (assuming, of course, that the manga doesn't suffer from the same malady.. ^_^;;; If so, I wonder why they did it. Did they think it was better for the pacing? Or for character development? The St. Valentine's Day episodes were, if not light, then at least not as intense as episode 11 was. If episode 6 (the election) actually took place in the Spring, putting it in earlier tells us something about the workings of the Yamayurikai that might have needed explaining before we went on into other matters. (I found it interesting - it turns out that the Lillian student body wasn't as undemocratic as I first thought it was.. ^_^;;; ). If they're going to do a lot of jumping around in time, I wonder what they plan in terms of the time frame for the story. Will we see stories from April, when Yumi first enters Lillian? Will we see Yumi in her third year, as Rosa Chinensis? Or will it be restricted to the time period between the Fall at the beginning of the series and April the next year, when the current Roses graduate? I'm starting to find this series more and more interesting as I find out more about it. And not just for the usual reasons, either. It's the sort of thing you could write entire term papers on. ^_^;; |

Well, I find it pretty confusing, rather than interesting, as Iskandar said. I can't believe those people didn't think of what would happen after the TV airing. Like DVD release or else... Instead it just looks really weird when you watch it without knowing anything about that fact, or the novels...
