If anime's taught me one thing, it's that the shadowiest bases answer to that very description! Also, they're Japanese high schools.

So I hear there's an earthquake off the Western coast of Canada with local tsunami warning issued; magnitude 7.7 to be exact. Fortunately it occurs in a sparsely-populated area and the magnitude is not sufficient to produce an epoch-shattering tsunami.

A practice run for the inevitable megathrust? Something to shake the Vancouverites up a bit. North American earthquake preparation is woefully behind Japan's, and we know, well...

In other not-so-news, nobody looks to be jailed for failing to predict this one.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that a ship carrying Italian judge and lawyers are on their way to the western coast of Canada to arrest and try a whale for failing to predict the earthquake.

Could This Be the Beginning of the End for BBC?

Former BBC chief Mark Thompson's office 'had TWO alerts about Savile child abuse claims'
Mark Thompson's office was notified at least twice - once by a journalist and once again by ITV
Mr Thompson was apparently not told of allegations on two occasions
YouGov poll: 48 percent of respondents believe Thompson had not been honest about Savile affair
Corporation is battling claims that its head of editorial standards, David Jordan, knowingly misled parliament last Tuesday

The office of former BBC director-general Mark Thompson was formally alerted twice about child abuse accusations concerning Jimmy Savile.
In May and again in September, his aides were told of allegations concerning the late television presenter's abuse of minors on BBC premises, but his spokesman has denied the claims were passed on to Mr Thompson.
The revelation by The Sunday Times raises questions about what Mr Thompson, who had overall responsibility for all news output as editor-in-chief until last month, knew about the Newsnight investigation.
Today the corporation is battling claims that its head of editorial standards, David Jordan, knowingly misled parliament last Tuesday.

Oh, this downward spiral just keeps picking up more and more speed.

Now this, a convicted paedophile is arrested today on suspicion of being involved with Savile's child abuse.
Detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile child sex abuse scandal have arrested Gary Glitter on suspicion of sexual offences in the first of what is likely to be a series of swoops on suspected associates of the late DJ.
The glam rocker, who was a friend of Savile and appeared on his TV shows, was arrested at his London home early on Sunday morning by Scotland Yard officers working on Operation Yewtree, which is following about 400 lines of inquiry involving 300 victims of alleged sexual exploitation by Savile and others, mostly young girls but also a few boys.
Glitter was taken into custody at a London police station and held for more than nine hours before being bailed "until mid December pending further inquiries".
The arrest was made amid growing public anger about Savile's activities and a suspected cover-up by the BBC. Over the weekend the walls and windows of Savile's cottage in Glencoe, where he once entertained Prince Charles to a private supper, were daubed with "abusive slogans" according to a spokesman for the Northern Constabulary. "Jimmy the beast" and "Worst beast" were painted in black two-foot high letters on the side of the building in the Scottish highlands, which was searched last week by police searching for "any evidence of any others being involved in any offending with him".

Can the BBC survive this? I read up on it and found even more interesting **** here:
http://www.heraldscotland.com/commen...andal.19262719

The sad thing about all of this is that none of it was a secret, people knew and they covered it up. People who should have protected children, protected a monster just to protect the squeaky-clean image of the broadcasting company. I hope they all get what's coming to them. >.>

A $7 million Popcorn Lung!?

A US man has been awarded $7.2m (4.4m) in damages after claiming he developed "popcorn lung" from inhaling the artificial butter in microwave popcorn.

A Colorado jury agreed with Wayne Watson that a popcorn manufacturer should have had warning labels that the bag's fumes were dangerous to inhale.
Defence lawyers argued that Mr Watson's problems stemmed from years of working with carpet-cleaning chemicals.
He developed respiratory problems in 2007, after regularly eating popcorn.

"Popcorn lung" is a form of irreversible obstructive lung disease that scars the lung and makes it difficult for air to flow out.
The verdict is the latest in a series of successful cases, including by popcorn plant workers who became ill. The cases link diacetyl, an ingredient in the flavouring, to health problems.
Jurors found Gilster-Mary Lee Corp, a private-labelling manufacturer of popcorn, liable for 80% of the damages. Supermarket company Kroger Co was held liable for the other 20%.

Is ANYTHING safe to eat nowadays?
But, but, I like microwave popcorn. ;_;

Apple Security Issues? Not again!

iOS security loophole lets apps grab user photos

A software feature that lets apps access user location has also been found to give developers access to that user's entire photo library.

An iOS security feature that lets users share information about their location can also be a conduit for those applications to surreptitiously grab user photos, according to a new report.
The New York Times' Bits blog today details how developers can gain access to a user's entire photo library through the same user dialog window that requests access to a user's current location. When users click the OK button, the report says, the developer can then copy photos--complete with GPS metadata--to a remote server, without alerting users to the fact.

Miramar fighter jets deployed in secret to Mideast:

"Amid mounting concern over Iran’s nuclear program and violence elsewhere in the
region, U.S. Central Command quietly dispatched a Marine fighter jet squadron from
San Diego to an undisclosed country in the Middle East, U-T San Diego has learned.

The deployment follows threats by the U.S. and Israel of military strikes if needed to
prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

At the same time, the conflict in Syria is threatening to drag Lebanon, Turkey and
Jordan into war, Iraq is beset by renewed violence, and terrorist groups hoping to
capitalize on political upheaval in the region covet Syria’s chemical weapons and
Libyan arms.

Against this tense geopolitical backdrop, aviation spotters tracked a dozen jets
from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314, an F/A-18 Hornet squadron based
at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, en route in late September through Europe."
