Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world.

Bush (Dubya)
3/19/03:

American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.
Scary thoughts came to my mind ...

And to mine as well ganbaru...

On a more serious note:

Largest coalition operation launched since Gulf War!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/af_libya

To quote Grand Mof Tarkin, "The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us...The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away forever... The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line."

I'm not a fan of Lewis Farrakhan, but I found this interview with him about Obama's foreign policy towards Libya...interesting to say the least.

So our President gets us involved in yet another pretty much illegal war. Why the fuck are people so apathetic? This isn't right. It's against our fucking constitution. Where are their fucking brains?

Obama says we're doing this for humanitarian reasons? Then what about all the fucking people getting killed by the Saudi Arabia government? Oh yeah, this is not within our economic interests. Fucking hypocrites .

Considering that this action is approved by the U.N security council, I'm not sure if its technically Illegal.
granted, the U.N security council has no Legal authority, but then, its not like there actually IS a law regarding what does and does not constitute a Legal or Illegal war.

as for Saudi Arabia, what would you expect.
no one wants to go to war with the worlds largest barrel of Oil.
its against common sense.

I guess that depends on the nations' constitutions. Some nations have very strict constitutions regarding the engagement in a war that is not meant to directly fend off an attack on the own nation.

The coalition in Iraq and the coalition in Libya are diametrical opposites. For one, the UN did not back Iraq.
Trying to paint the two events as similar is silly.

It is. Libya pumps out a significant percentage of the world's oil. No oil coming out of the country will mean chaos for the rest of the world.

It is not just US's economic interest, it is the world's oil interest. So unless we wean ourselves out of crude overnight, there is no hard and fast way other than dropping missiles in Libya.

Diametrical opposites? Maybe Obama has more global support, but that doesn't make this right. I sense some American-European colonialism 2.0 in the works here.

I think the debate is that people still believe Congress has to vote for us to go to war. I don't recall Congress voting for war in Korea or Vietnam. In fact those are both officially police actions.

The UN trumps Congress when it comes to war these days. It is a nice way for the executive office to get around Congress while also keeping Congress' hand clean, since it was the UN's call. That wa Congressmen can get reelected based on whatever is state's people want him to say he or shee supports without having t actually do anything that could potentially lose the election...since they never had to vote on the war.

I've heard a lot of crap about impeaching the President if s much as one US soldier sets foot in Libya because of the legality of it. How is this different than any other war we have been involved in in the last 65 years that was also not declared by Congress but supported by the UN?

Hard to tell, many of them are too much destroyed but the one with the muzzle break seems to be a tracked howitzer. Could be an italian Palmaria self-propelled 155mm howitzer.

You are correct. I am mistaken in calling them tanks earlier.

i thought those looked more like SP howitzers.
and to my knowledge, all of Libya's tanks are of Russian design, which is why those looked so off for tanks.
