I don't think it requires being raised together, so much as a lot of contact.

I suppose the anime where they only knew the Childhood friend for a day may not really have any issues, but when the childhood friend has been around so long that she cooks and cleans for the main character...

Colour me jaded, but I'd find it kind of weird to go out with a girl I'd known like that.

Right, because this plot element is so rare in European literatures right?

Oh wait, it isn't.

I've never had anyone like that, but I think I'd find it weird to not give her first refusal before seeking a girlfriend elsewhere.

Well the idea that the woman you marry is also your friend so that the likelihood of you getting into such a situation that you would consider divorce is reduced because you are friends with similar interests and backgrounds it considered sort of normal. The general idea being that you want to be around this person, not that you just want to have sex with her. Because eventually you both are going to be old and sex won't be very likely. But you will still be friends and able to entertain each other or care for each other in those later years.

I did not have this sort of woman around since pretty much every family on the block had boys around my age and the closest thing to a female childhood friend moved away a long, long time ago (to the point I don't even know what she looks like grown up). And while my grandparents are not quite that sort of case, they did remain married for 62 years before my grandfather died.

That would be another display of stupidity and probably not much more.

Germany faces new form of far-right terror
Quote:
Frankfurt (Nov 13, Sun): German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said today that the country may be facing "a new form of far-right terrorism" amid anger that a group linked to the killing of at least 10 people went undetected for more than a decade.

A previously unknown organisation calling itself the National Socialist Underground has in recent days been linked to a string of murders in six German cities between 2000 and 2006, in which eight men of Turkish origin and one Greek were shot dead. It is also suspected of involvement in killing a police officer in 2007 as well as a number of bank robberies.

The revelations, which have caused shock and outrage across Germany, began after police found the bodies of two men, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Boehnhardt, both with far-right links, in a mobile home in Eisenach last week. The police believe that they killed themselves after a botched bank robbery.

Shortly after the discovery investigators searched a burnt-out house in Zwickau, used by the men and one woman, "Beate Z", who later handed herself in to the police.

The police also found a 15-minute film recorded on DVDs ready to be sent to Islamic cultural organisations and the media. German magazine Spiegel printed stills from the film showing the murder victims' bodies and grotesque montages made by the group showing the cartoon character Pink Panther pointing out the scenes of the killings.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the murders were shameful for Germany. "We must assume that this is right-wing extremism in the worst form, and it is shaming that such a thing can happen in our country," she told German television.

In fact, France and Germany are the only ones holding up the entire Euro. I don't see how the currency can live past the next decade.

Bank of America to sell most of its remaining CCB stake

The recent sales on stocks of Chinese banks is kind of interesting. Recently Goldman Sachs sold a large amount stocks of the industrial and commercial bank of China. They all made quite a lot of money on their investments, but these are moves that bring a lot of questions.

Actually, France had already asked to use money for itself from the last stability pact right after the German parliament passed it. Italy alone owns France/French banks over 500 billion Euros. And France is one of the main nations that pressured the ECB (until two weeks ago led by the Frenchman Trichet) into purchasing PIIGS bonds, against all rules agreed upon during the creation of the Euro. The German members - together with a few other northern members - of the ECB council simply get overruled. Two Germans (of only two seats) have already resigned.
