I think FMP would do well with just a sequel.

Here's one for Fist of the North Star and strong support for Slam Dunk. However, I'm worried about modern design philophies doing them justice.

Soul Eater: They started to diverge right before the good stuff. Was a nice series to that point. So much good stuff that didn't get in because they had to go and do their own thing.

Realistically speaking, which shows are most likely to get the FMA treatment?

Popular ones with original filler/endings.

That gives me some hope for Ao no Exorcist then.

First off, I'm one of those seemingly rare individuals who actually think the first FMA that didn't adhere strictly to the manga was far superior to Brotherhood.

That said, I get the general gist of the topic, so the very first anime I'd like to see redone, is Claymore. Not that it'd ever happen, since it followed the manga almost perfectly for the vast majority of its episodes, so I can't begin to see why anyone would reanimate all those episodes the exact same way again, but that ending was just so bad, and the story has gone much further...so I can dream, can't I? Though, I suppose, a studio with a larger budget could reanimate all those episodes the exact same way, but with actual animation as opposed to the ton of stills the original production had, and it'd be a noticeable improvement.

Sailor Moon, if I understand correctly, would be a lot more violent (or perhaps just more graphic) if it followed the manga. That might actually work in light of Madoka Magica. However I know the anime changed at least the personality of Rei...and I liked the anime personality of Rei. Plus by the end you have something like 14 friendly scouts from just our solar system, counting those from the future, and however many from other star systems. I'm not even sure how many arcs the manga has verse the anime's four series, three movies and several arcs per series. Some of those arcs were filler, but others were not. Plus on top of this you have Sailor V that can be thrown in as a "prequel" series.

However...how do you remake a popular 200 episode series that has a nearly equally long manga?

I confirm this to be true. The manga has ghastly images sometimes! There's a lotta blood!

There were originally 18 volumes of the manga. It got re-released into 12 volumes on the tenth anniversary. The only arcs that were not canon to the manga was the first part of R with the alien twins, the R movie, and the SuperS movie.

I tend to be somewhat indifferent towards remaking anime to better follow the original work, since I don’t see the point in having two copies of the same thing. If the anime too closely follows the manga without bringing anything new to the table in terms of musical quality or character development, then I often won’t even bother to watch the anime, since reading a manga at my own reading speed is far more time efficient. The general idea is that if I want to read the manga, then I’ll read the manga. The only exception is in cases such as Rurouni Kenshin’s, in which the replacement for manga only content is so terrible that I could never grow to love the anime depiction as a separate story. But for FMA 2003 or Hellsing, I’m actually one of the few people who vastly prefer the anime adaptions (FMA 2003 and Hellsing, respectively) to the original portrayals in the manga, so I had no real interest in seeing the Brotherhood treatment done in the first place.

Tsukihime, though, is an anime that I would like to see remade for the same reason that I would like to see a depiction of Rurouni Kenshin’s Jinchu Arc. Well, that and the fact that visual novels provide an artistic experience different enough from anime and manga that creating a faithful anime adaption of it, doesn’t render the adaption superfluous.

I'm with you on that. To this day, I've never bothered to see FMA: Brotherhood considering how much of a fanboy I was of the original adaptation. I believed regardless of a loose end and not enough closure, it did everything fantastic to justify itself as a solid standalone series. In my opinion it was so good, it surpassed the original manga. By the time Brotherhood came out, I sort of lost interest in FMA since I was busy catching up with other anime I didn't watch yet. I'm quite iffy about Brotherhood introducing bunch of characters in favour of omitting a few minor characters, also tweaking some villains a bit. For me Full metal Alchemist didn't really need a remastered adaptation.

It's same for Hellsing. I'm one of very minority that preferred Hellsing than Ultimate. Hellsing actually made an effort to be the gothic series. It was heavily violent and atmospheric as it aimed to be. While the story towards the end became weaker compared to the opening, I still liked it and I also liked the villain for one because he fitted in the context of the theme while Hellsing Ultimate seems to focus on pleasing the core audience with the extreme violence, unnecessary fanservice and humour which killed the gothic atmosphere and gritty setting. I mean it's still legitimately entertaining show but also bit too over the top for my liking. And the idea for the main villain in the series is a bit ridiculous but I suppose, this is the faithful version of the manga, so I guess it's understandable why the most people prefers the remastered than the original.

Anime that need remakes/reboot

I hate what Xebec did to Elemental Gelade in 2005 but unfortunately no other studios want to re-pick this one. Maybe some problems like contracts and other thing I rather not want to know. Fruit Basket also a nice choice for reboot, following its manga more accurately.

Before someone mention this, School Days also need to be remake with even worse ending which

Spoiler:

Anything Deen (Except Kenshin mostly), but especially Umineko needs a complete remake
Mai-Hime/Otome needs a remake but only if they keep Yoshino away.

The entire Negima series. This series got crushed when it comes to being animated.

I want the first Dragon Ball series to be remastered in HD like Dragon Ball Kai, but it will never happen.
