![]() It's interesting indeed that Oikawa is getting more airtime this time round. It's also interesting that the story has taken a more serious, educational approach, what with the interludes of the microbes waging "war", scenes that used to be reserved for the the Microbe Theatre. As for the different designs, I'm not overly bothered by it as the characters are still recognisable. And, oh, the moe gag from the first episode had me in stitches. Good fun, good fun. |

The first 2 episode certainly were more informative though I wonder they could maintain the format throughout the season. Not that I m bothered by it, by the midway of season 1, I was way more curious about the characters growth and what other harassment that oikawa was getting.
Haruka x sawaki was definitely my choice of shipping for this show

Just watched ep 1. Time to get 2.
I have been reminded of why I love this kind of show; I always was the type to watch Discovery and History cable channels. Fun and educational, especially since I don't like alcohol and as such this is all new to me.

Time to add CR to the thread heading!
Crunchyroll has added another chess piece to their big board of summer anime as Moyashimon Returns, based on the award winning manga by Masayuki Ishikawa, is set to debut soon on the site. I wonder if they'll stay a few episodes behind or if they'll put the first two episodes out when the third one goes out to catch up? What took them so long? |

Without the first season, it looks as though Crunchy has decided to serve the fansub viewing audience in this case. I know full well what CR's root were, but you'd think TV Tokyo might have a few qualms. Or, as I suspect is more likely, the Japanese production committees really don't care much about what happens outside of Japan.
CR's decision to carry only the second season of Chi's Sweet Home is a similar puzzle. Since they have never picked up the first season of Chi, might we guess they'll never pick up season one of Moyashimon either?

I've made a characters/seiyuus page for this show, with pics of the characters and their seiyuus, and a bit of info about each seiyuu. Just the characters who are pictured on the official site's "characters" page.

Just when I thought anime was in terminal decline, Moyashimon returns! Joy! I had secretly hoped so for a long time, although I had given up by now. The first season was one of my all time favorites, and I remember the scene where the microbes returned as one of the most goosebumpy I've seen. I guess the more juvenile character design may not lend itself to quite the same experience, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far, especially because of the screen time for the bacteria. Also, watched the ED probably around 50 times by now. So catchy! ^_^

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about Oikawa being a more important character - I like her least of the main cast. But maybe when the backstory gets shown I will like her more. Clearly there is a lot more there than was obvious in the first season. In any case, I don't see any obvious chemistry between her and Sawaki.
That said, considering the whole main cast, there are no obvious pairings. Kei likes Sawaki, but Sawaki clearly isn't sure what to think of Kei's crossdressing (or transsexualism, it's not clear yet what it is). Hasegawa has some weird thing for Sawaki but I don't think she even knows what it is yet. Mutou doesn't seem interested in anyone, the only romantic hint we have from her is when she slept with Oikawa, which seems to be a one-off for both of them (it really came off as a joke more than anything). Though Oikawa's having a fit over Kei's kissing Sawaki suggests perhaps there is more to it? The two second year characters, Kawahama and Misato, seem unlikely to get anywhere with anyone. Oikawa is definitely giving off some odd vibes in regards to Sawaki, such as her seeking out Kei at the shop back in the first season. But she says she likes old men... What the truth is is anyone's guess at this point. In any case, I'm just glad that Kei is showing up more often. I actually like Sawaki-Kei, though I don't think it will go in that direction. Currently I think Sawaki-Hasegawa is most likely. Well, next episode should clear up a lot. There will be Sawaki's confession or at least the fallout, and probably much more about Oikawa. Honestly, the focus seems more on the characters' circumstances and the romantic aspect seems unlikely to resolve in a simple or obvious way, if at all. |

Right now, I'm watching this show for the microbes and Itsuki-sensei. There's a lot more educational material in this season than the last which I also enjoy. My favorite new character might be the drill sergeant. I almost made an avatar of him, but I couldn't find the right sequence where the background was not too cluttered. I also find it cute how the microbes now pay attention to the emotional states of the other characters like the ones in Haruka's lab. I don't recall the microbes being involved with anyone other than Sawaki in the first season.

I think the microbes are animated by Sawaki's psychic power. Therefore when they now keep an eye on Hasegawa, it may be because Sawaki is thinking of her subconsciously. I wonder if this means he has feelings for Hasegawa?

You know, I caught up on season 1 after watching the first 2 eps of Moyashimon Returns, and I am glad I did - no surprise that things make a lot more sense to me.
Somehow this series feels slightly awkward and endearing at the same time, like the eponymous "red headed step-sister". Even so, I have found I like it overall, even if there are elements that "don't do much for me".

I can't help noticing that once again the microbes are thinking of Hasegawa, the only person outside of Sawaki which they pay attention to when he is not present. This is pretty wild, but what if Sawaki could somehow get microbes to track Hasegawa? We don't really know whether there is a distance limit to his power, since he has never tried such a thing before. Wherever there are humans, there are microbes, after all... in fact, Hasegawa says just that in season 1 when Sawaki is unable to see them.
