I think it can mean within each generation also. There was also the Flit, Yurin, Emily triangle. Even though Emily didn't do much, she was part of the triangle and her hooking up with Flit in the end rather than Flit with Yurin did shape history with the birth of their children. At this point, I'd rather have the sister's kid be the next protagonist if Asemu doesn't get rid of his emo-ness.
