Anime with indifferent male lead

Hello, can someone suggest me an anime with indifferent male lead who is expressionless, aloof or quiet and reserved? Preferably a smart one who isn't fazed so easily by anything and HE must be the main/first protagonist.

An example of a male protagonist I like is Miharu from Nabari no Ou. I don't mind homosexual hints in the anime as long it's not the main plot, hardcore yaoi and yuri is unacceptable though. Harem anime is okay but no to reverse harem please. I don't like girly anime. The main protagonist must not be a pervert too.

So far I have watched:

Death Note
Code Geass
Nabari no Ou
Full Metal Panic!

Oh and please don't suggest me a main protagonist like Kyon from Suzumiya Haruhi. I don't really like a noisy and easily shocked/affected character like him.
Thanks in advance!

Characters like that don't maintain that personality for long, more so if they are the protagonist of the show.
But I will give it a try,
Gun X Sword - the protagonist is only concerned about his revenge.
Samurai Champloo - There two and they absolutely don't give a shit about anything
Samurai Deeper Kyo - Although the main character has dual personality.
Berserk - Absolutely badass protagonist. A must watch if you haven't.

I couldn't think of a better anime than Spiral-Suiri no Kizuna

You can also try Ghost Hunt.

Seikon no Qwaser is a harem anime about a expressionless male lead who is driven by revenge to kill someone who stabbed his childhood friend when he was little. He's very smart and quiet and has no qualms towards enemies. He isn't too perverted even though he uses something indecent towards females.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D'S is a cardgame-oriented anime about a indifferent male lead who is very smart and reserved. He's obssesed with cardgames and has a extremely dark past.

Mushishi is a supernatural anime about a emotionless male lead who travels around the world to resolve supernatural cases. He's so smart and can use something special for him.

Ichise (main protagonist) from Texhnolyze comes to mind. He remains very quiet and reserved throughout the whole series. The series is very minimalistic when it comes to dialogue in general; it relies on and uses atmosphere to develop the characters/story.

I'd wager the series is nothing like you have seen before, so proceed with caution!

(That is, if you haven't watched it already)

Wow thanks for the suggestions! I have watched Gun x Sword before but I didn't finish it since it was still airing back then. Time to finish it I guess.

I have watched Ghost Hunt too but dropped it halfway. I can't stand the female lead, she made the anime felt too girly. I wish the first protagonist were the guy, not her.

I think I will try:

Samurai Champloo
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Berserk
Spiral-Suiri no Kizuna
Seikon no Qwaser
Mushishi
Texhnolyze.

Anime like Yu Gi Oh!, Beyblade with game tournament genre isn't really taste. Otherwise, I would love that kind of protagonist.

Thanks once again!

Persona 4 has a pretty much indifferent protagonist. He's almost close to expressionless too on some scenes xD And since you have a sig+avatar set of Minato, I think Narukami Yuu/Seta Souji would be a good male lead for you :3

I second Mushishi and recommend:

Darker than Black
Fate/Zero
Kino's Journey (Technically a she, but you wouldn't have guessed if you didn't know)
Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom
UN-GO
Wolf's Rain

Finished watching Gun x Sword. Not really the type of character I hoped for, but still, it was a good show overall.

Finished watching Samurai Champloo too and holy cow! I love it! It had a good action and humor. I especially love Jin's calm demeanor. Mugen's recklessness is amusing to watch too, they're both really strong. Even the girl is funny! I would love to see more of their journey but I guess the ending is great enough. It's better than having it go on endlessly like Saiyuki. Thanks a bunch for suggesting this one to me. I enjoyed it a lot.

Now on to Samurai Deeper Kyo.

Yeah I've heard of persona 4 anime. I'm planning to watch it once I have finished playing the game. Don't wanna be spoiled.

Oh thanks. I have heard good things about Darker than Black. I will consider watching them all. Thanks a lot.

I would recommend watching Berserk before Samurai Deeper Kyo as the former is way too superior in plot than the later.

Having just recommended Ghost Hound in a different thread, it might be appropriate here as well. The main character is being treated for PTSD after having been kidnapped along with his sister as a young child. One of his friends also qualifies: he's a sullen sort who prefers to spend his time practicing guitar with his headphones on.

Even though he treats this anime as girly, I have a good idea : the anime became less girly and more serious as the story progress, considering it has 26 episodes.

I'm not sure to whom you're referring here. I definitely don't think of Ghost Hound as girly. Are you referring to Shirow?

Hmm tried watching Berserk. The main guy left a good impression on me but the animation is just too old for my taste. I think I will read the manga instead, that way I can enjoy the artwork better. Thanks for the suggestion. I feel like I can love this series.

Just wondering though, what's the difference between Berserk's the movies and the TV series? are they sequels or just something unrelated to the main plot like Naruto the movies?

I never watched Ghost Hound before. The one I watched was Ghost Hunt and it had a girl as the first protagonist which I didn't really enjoy. Are they different?

I mislead Ghost Hound with Ghost Hunt, I'm so sorry ! But both shows are very different, and the first one has boy as the protagonist.

Do you prefer anime with romance or none? What about sport anime? I know some good ones but not sure if they're to your liking.

Gallantnir want some romance in it. Too much romance in a action anime would ruin the plot, sometimes with fanservice. Also, he wasn't a big fan of sport animes.

For me the plot more than made up for the animation. I haven't seen the movies so can't help you there.

Oh not really. Either way is cool with me. But if I have to choose, I would rather have it no romance at all rather than seeing the main guy being abused by a tsundere girl. I find it unbearable to see the male lead that I respect being harassed/abused by his romantic interest. Somehow that kind of anime is pretty common nowadays. If I could, I want to avoid that kind of anime at any cost.

I love adventure/action anime of any kind, be it mecha, military, magic, psychological battle or anything as long as the protagonist is respectable enough, more so if he's indifferent.

I'm not really fond of sport tournament-like anime because most of them only show what's going on in a tournament after tournaments. What I want to see is the protagonist's life and his surroundings to make me feel that he's alive. Not just a character that lives to win. So yeah, at the very least, the (indifferent) character must be fleshed out well enough (like he has a life outside his battles) and the tournaments mustn't dominate the show too much. If you know a sport anime like that, by all means, try me.

Okay, thanks anyway. Just started watching Samurai Deeper Kyo. It's pretty cool. I hope his other personality takes over the whole show haha.
