This show keeps pleasing me. Hakaze's undead death, Mahiro's subterfuge, Jun's sweetness and apparent stremgth, Aika's seeming willingness to go with her "brother."

The character design, animation, and Hanazawa Kana made Aika extremely seductive in those scenes.

I like the idea that Hakaze may be more dangerous than Samon, and also the idea that our main character may end up as a villain.

Okada Mari and the manga are weaving a pretty good story, so far.

My first thought is that Jun simply is immune to magic.

While I suppose a simple Mahiro could be a contrast to the seemingly very complicated Yoshino, I also think it's equally possible that there's more to Mahiro's obsession than what's been shown so far, if the author's amusement with teasing us slowly with revelations about Yoshino is anything to go by. I also can't help but feel his pointed question to Yoshino when they were sitting by their camp fire wasn't all innocent.

Heck, what if Mahiro was the one who actually killed Aki? What if he knows Yoshino was the boyfriend? What if all of this is Mahiro conflicted within himself out of a strange mixture of guilt and anger? What if he's so deranged inside that he's deluded himself into thinking it wasn't him, while a subconscious guilt provides the impetus for his obsession to find a culprit in order to make his delusion real? Even better, what if Yoshino knows all this?

Though, my cynical self really wants Yoshino to be involved in Aki's death in some way.

Also, Jun may be immune to magic, but he still somehow managed to very, very quickly defeat spear-boy. Hrm.

Call me really paranoid , but I keep on having this lingering feeling that Aika won't just appear only in the flashbacks.

same!! i want him to be the bad guy aswell ^^

it seems like a flashback ep next wk, which is dissapointing considering they are going for an anime original end, just get on with it, i dont want this show to rush an ending out in the last couple of episodes, i have to much love for the manga for that

so is Hakaze dead or not? Yoshino suspected the Tree of Genesis is protecting her. Well, it could be protecting her spirit but not the body, right?

and does Mahiro KNOW that Aika has chosen Yoshino as her boyfriend? but Yoshino thinks Mahiro doesn't know? could someone confirm that for me? I thought that was implied in the earlier flashbacks but not exactly sure.

really love the BGM of this series. I hope the OST comes out soon!

Maybe he's the next Touma: Magic Canceler on left hand & Mohammad Ali on right hand .

I got the feeling that Jun used a martial arts move to defeat Lancer...

Samon spreading lies about Hakaze's death.
Well, at least those two had a new mission.
It was interesting to see Yoshino working with the army.
Mahiro was totally clueless about it.
Interesting episode.

Given the bit of the conversation between Mahiro & Hakaze after the trip to the mansion, someone from the Mage Clan killed Aika-chan. Unless Mahiro had magic access at the time, he wasn't involved with her death. Though he obviously blames himself.

As for Mahiro & Aika's relationship, it's generally a bad idea to blend a family with two opposite sex teenagers. But for their parent's relationship, the other would be legitimate relationship material, so you create a very weird dynamic of both sexual tension & familial bonding. At best, it'll make the home life rather awkward, to say the least. Especially as they were both only children previously.

So, Mahiro's feelings for Aika should be rather complicated, especially now that she's been murdered.

It's his right hand, and if he's like Touma he doesn't need Mohammad, Imagine Breaker is fully capable of Falcon Punching the opponent.

For the episode:
It's Lancer, no matter how strong they first appear to be, sooner or later they are bound to lose. They just don't receive enough love in Japan.

So he managed to recognize Hakaze by the shape of her skull? I think this is a first for me, someone recognizing somebody else by the shape of his/her skull

Last episode (I think?) Mahiro described Yoshino as a shrewd one, but with this week's preview Aika might be the perfect match, since she managed to date Yoshino behind her brother's back.

Busou Renkin's did alright. But then, he was the main character. (Maybe that's why it was cut short...)

That was another great episode. The thing I like the most about this show is how these main duo keep getting loads of development and these new twists between Mahiro and Aika and the hint that Mahiro might be forcing himself to give Yoshino the benefit of the doubt are great. The ominous music that plays in the end really tells you that the path they're walking is not a good one between the two.

Also, my guess is that Jun is simply that good with talismans alone.

LOL I know that (I follow the anime). I just want Jun to be a bit different.

Wasn't the main character using a sword? (a big one at that)

Both the women in this show are coming off increasingly as manipulative the more they refuse to tell Yoshino and Mahiro the full story of what is going on. Both Hakaze in the present with her somewhat snide "do everything that I say and don't think to hard about it because you're not a super powerful wizard and wouldn't understand anyway" attitude and Aika in the past with her cryptic offerings in flashbacks that everything is happening for a reason and the indication that she's playing the two main characters emotionally and sexually and has them wrapped around her finger from beyond the grave to do.......something. It's increasingly hard not to view the situation this way, though to be fair nobody in this show really comes across like they are to be trusted entirely at face value which gives the whole thing a bit of a Shakespearean conspiracy/tragedy vibe ala Macbeth or even it's namesake the Tempest.

So basically I'm starting to suspect we might have some unreliable narrator stuff going on her from pretty much everybody that has had a spoken line so far.

What do you mean? Hakaze's been pretty straightforward.

As for Aika... I'm not sure what was going on. But it can't have been easy, being Mahiro's "sister".

I'm talking about how her confidante said that Hakaze and the Tree of Genesis may be a greater threat than whatever Samon is trying to accomplish. It makes it sounds like she's not being 100% honest with what her powers can do and what she's capable of, though it seems she wants to use the Tree of Genesis to destroy the worlds weapons or something. Plus the whole possibly being dead thing making one question her identity and true state. There's a lot of mysteries surrounding Hakaze all of a sudden that I wouldn't be in as much of a rush to be doing everything she requests until I get more information out of her, though that might not be an option since she clearly holds all the trump cards and knows it.

I don't think there's any question to Hakaze's identity. The mystery is how one can explain through rational means her being both dead and alive, and not whether Hakaze is really Hakaze, imo.

That said, I completely agree that both Hakaze, and especially Aika, are manipulative, but pretty much everyone in this show is. Slowly peeling back those layers seems to be a central theme to this show.

The central slow reveals that are the pillars of this show, imo:

1) Hakaze, and her role in saving/destroying the world, as well as how she's alive/dead at the same time.

2) Aika. I don't believe for a second she's just a passive memory from the past.

3) Yoshino, who I feel is holding an awful lot close to his chest, out of the audience's view.

For now, Mahiro seems like the only clear cut person (though I'm starting to have my doubts there as well).

Everything else seems like set pieces to further telling the story of how those 3 (or 4) relate to each other in what will presumably be the climax of the show.
