Ahh, glad they just substituted the BGM instead of deleting the scene, though I don't understand why they deleted the part before Katyusha in ep 8. It really was the only chance for the viewers to see what artillery Pravda had.

Still, I wonder how Tetris and Super Dodge Ball got away with their versions of Katyusha.

Of course, it matters little to me, since I'm getting the JP version.

Simple. They are company in US. Nobody can resists Political Correctness.

In the Cold War era, there's no laws about commarcial rights agreement between Eastern allies and Western allies. In the Communist Society, every song was free for sing, hear, and telling to somebody forever on, like our good-old days. But USSR disappear. Many Song of USSR and Eastern countries' song is com-rights uncertain in US now, Politically. Of course that's ridiculous, but in US, nobody escapes from right-holders, anything should be claimed for pay, if copy-right holder is not clear, they can't use anything until High Court or congress decides something. Or, in the other way, somebody buy rights and start to claim money, then, you can sing folk song like "Happy Birthday to you" in the public. With huge pay. to theDis***whoaIcantseeanythingknownothing
It's American Way. These russian songs and musics frozen in until 2014, US supreme court decide something at that time.

Still, it is a very impressive shop if it really is one... and I would never object to such a sensual looking Yukari

For me, this show is also like Saki in that I have no freaking clue what's going on in the main "game" and rely mostly on the characters' reactions to figure out what thing went on with the other thing. Though knowing that the main characters are the main characters, I can tell they pulled off a narrow victory at the end.
Who won exactly isn't quite confirmed yet, but since Ooarai can't lose, I think the result is already clear.

If you're interested, I'll be (probably ) writing up episodes 8 and 9 and discussing the tactics used in them. If there's anything you want explained, let me know and I'll try to address it.

What really blows the mind is that a lot of Soviet-era works, like Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet and Peter and the Wolf, have been in the public domain for ages but they're now covered under copyright.

New treaties do that. When the Soviets were the enemy, the US didn't give one care about their copyrights. But now in a slightly friendlier age, rules change.

Not all Russian songs are under the copyright laws, as several are very old and fall into public domain naturelly.

Katyusha is 74 years old. It is almost there.

Too sad to say, all she want is "Sensha looking Yukari" instead of sensual. But more Lovely.

Still waiting on an acceptable translation of episode 9, but I see that twelve pages of posts have gone up while I've been waiting. Ugh. Not sure if I'm willing to read them all. I'll get back to you when the episode really becomes available.

A bit too bad that from the rule they're using, we won't have Miho vs Maho in the final 1-1 duel that decide the win or the lose. (unless Maho is on a flag tank)

Considering the fact that in the GuP world, they're using (to us) rare vintage tanks for violent full-contact sports, I'm not sure if tank "collector's value" actually enters into it for them.

To me it's somewhere between real-world warbird air racing, which does put a lot of strain onto often very-rare aircraft, and World of Tanks, where the Tiger(P) is something you have to grind past to get to the Tiger. ducks

I think I've seen a comment of the director on the official site, unfortunately I don't have time to read it to see if he says anything useful.

I love all the little references they sneak into the series.

I'll contribute to the Oddball collection.

Both Saunders and Pravda would be primarily interested in tanks for their practical effectiveness, so I don't think that a Porsche Tiger would interest them too much. In any case, they don't use German tanks.

For the greater universe, vintage tanks seem to be a lot more common and affordable (for a given definition of affordable ) than they are in real life. They've been using all sorts of rare vehicles like that helicopter (only 20 ever built) for pretty mundane purposes.

And, in a more perfect world, a Porsche Tiger wouldn't be worth very much in the first place .

Hmm, ya know, I can get a T-34, here, in the United States for $34,000.

Not a terrible price to pay.
