Well, at least now we know Oorai's ship isn't the smallest...

So... is the I-400-derived city ship submersible?

Because they could be put together with period designs, and were only stopped in development due to the Siege of Leningrad, if fully-operational ones were assembled, they would most likely be legal.

There is one stipulation that prevents both tanks from becoming legal: their parts must've existed in some form. There are no known records of any parts for the KV-4 or 5 ever having been made, and I doubt you can get the necessary parts to make one simply by cannibalizing a few KV's or something. The E-100 is often cited as a Senshado-legal tank, and for good reason: while it was never completed, all of the components necessary for its completion did exist prior to the war's end - the E-100 hull, and the Mausturm. The same can't be said for the KV-4 and KV-5.

Whether the KV-4 and KV-5 will become Senshado legal would likely be under the stipulation of blueprint designs being accepted by the League on a case-by-case basis, though unless we get evidence otherwise it's more likely that both tanks wouldn't be accepted.

Maybe we will see it in a near-future video game of the series

This series is too good to not be in game form, and I am talking about a game like 'Panzer Front'.

Ah, noted. Figured as much, IIRC the only carriers at Yokosuka were the conventional carriers, as I understand the Japanese government wasn't keen on CVNs in their ports.

No, it was because Japan had maintained the fiction that no nuclear-powered vessels have been allowed in its waters under the three so-called nuclear principles of not possessing, producing or permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons. That was changed in 2005.

Isn't that what I said? Albeit the symptom, not the cause

That said, I have always wondered how a CVN is excluded under those principles, while a nuke power plant is allowed, unless US carriers carry nuclear weapons onboard.

The idea changed because, well, the US doesn't have any non-nuclear carriers anymore, but both Japan and the United States agree that the US still needs to operate a super carrier out of Japan.

As for the principle, that nuclear powered carriers (and submarines, though no longer cruisers, destroyers, and frigates) is a weapon of war...a nuclear powered weapon of war.

Why does that matter? Because it has the word "nuclear" in it.

Does that mean cold fusion drives would be exempt?

Probably, though I can't say for sure about an antimatter drive.

So from NX-01 onwards, no Enterprise will be able to get close to Japan.

They love Wave Motion technology though. Even though weapons using it are more destructive than any nuclear, or possibly even antimatter weaponry.

Speaking of power, does the OVA say what powers these giant city carriers?

Funny now that you've mentioned this... we've all seen destruction depicted in anime more powerful than any present (or possibly future) nuclear weapons can ever accomplish. Annihilation of galaxies, ripping dimensions, collapsing of entire universes or multiple universes are A-OK, but no nuclear bombs... nope...

Well Macross had them go by another name And once the Zentraedi found they had those, they considered them a real threat.

For reference...

While we're at it, it seems improbable to build a ship that large without technology a few levels above our current one.
