Now that the series is over I figured I'd give it a chance to see what all the buzz is about. Truthfully I am a little skeptical of whether the show will have enough of a strong focus on the Panzer plotline vsthe cute girls being cute if only because of the sheer number of shows I've disappointly seen fall back on moe tropes over being fun with the premise characters and plot and hooking the viewer withtthat. On the other hand lately there have been a number of fairly decent cute girls doing gar things that actually feature a fair bit of the latter which I have sbsolutely no problem with. If Girls Und Panzer is to be one of those short fun guilty pleasure shows I simply require that it continue the trend.

As fot impressions off the first couple eps, the art is a little janky and worries me as to how any future battles are going to look though it might work okay with tank battles Probably the stand out lol moment was the propoganda video at the assembly which was the first possible sign that this shows cast could develop an edge to it later on though so far I'm getting a moe moe vibe. Nothing to concerning though by any stretch other than the rather egregious and completely out of place German in the subs. Reminds me of how people talk on /m and that's not something I want to think about when trying out a new show.

(Other sub groups don't use the German though that seems to be the commonly encountered version).

The tank battles and stuff really hit off in episode 4 to the point of being astonishing. After that I doubt you will have any problems.

As long as you are not a military purist! My perspective when the show started was it was a show about tanks with cute girls in it. My perspective now that the series has ended -- is that the show is about cute girls with tanks in it -- albeit they did a good amount of background research.

Find a different sub group. ANY other sub group except that one. That group is the fastest, but also has the worst quality control.

Finally watch the last episode. While I think the odds against them winning were very slim, the one on one battle between the sisters were pretty good with a nail biter finish. Still I'm torn since I really did want to see Oorai lose but still get all the acclaim, yet I can't fault it for how the battle was won.

And the moment where they took down the Maus was impressive even if it was dangerous. And Saki... just one line. LOL.

And the TigerP makes for an impressive Gandalf "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" moment.

I mean COME ON, the Katyusha number was one of the highlights of that episode too!

I think that track would sound better with the chorus of the rest of the girls singing as well, like they had in the episode.

Yeah that's kind of what I don't want and find happens all too often. a 50/50 ratio is sort of my cut off point before I start to get bored with material usually I'm definitely giving it till at least episode 4 which everyone tells me is the make or break point

In this case, the first four episodes are really just an introduction to both the main characters (Miho and her friends, plus the rest of Ooarai's teams) and some recurring themes plus supporting characters (the ever-popular Darjeeling). Also, think of its structure as more of a sports anime rather than simple military re-enactment. It makes it easier to excuse some of the more over-the-top performances of the vehicles shown, especially if you're already familiar with the operational values of the tanks featured (a type-89, outrunning a Matilda? Ahahaha).

That generally sounds pretty normal. Also yeah I got the impression that its a lot like war games for cadets as opposed to actual open conflict albeit with the apparent twist that only girls can participate sort of like with Saki the mahjong show, which I found pretty fun.

Well, the theoretical top speeds of those 2 vehicles are only 2km/h apart, so it is not hard for Shinobu to be Just Better - the more so when the latter's power to weight ratio is better.

Spoiler:

As a caveat, I also advise reading the prequel Little Army, if only for context to some of the stuff going on in the background. It becomes VERY important when the primary rival gets introduced, as her motivations are only revealed there, and never in the anime (where she maintains a poker face for almost its entire run).

Horrible just rips the official streams. They don't do any translation work.

And they generally get the EARLY official streams, before any errors are corrected. I can't speak for how well GuP is done (I haven't watched the CR versions) but there have been other shows I've seen where the official Crunchyroll translations contain blatant, obvious errors and inconsistencies. It's possible those things get fixed and the online version gets changed, but that group generally doesn't go back and rip the later versions to get any updates or fixes.

That's happened to me too many times for me to fully trust versions of episodes that have come from Crunchyroll. However, aside from the fact that they cut out Katyusha, I still consider them more reliable than that group that insists on using German in their subs, as said group has outright stated their lack of care both for this series and for their viewers. My personal choice, however, is to go with the third group, which avoids both those problems.

Oddly I find the disclaimer at the start of those about there being a second "no fun" channel with "less Aryan" subs quite amuzing.
