NSFW Meaning discussion

Since I don't have a better place to put this thread, I'll go here.

I'm was thinking about the meaning of NSFW. We know that it stands for "Not Safe For Work" (Or School, etc) Meaning that it contains highly questionable/hentai material which will normally earn a scorn if someone is watching (and not actually wanting to see Hentai)

However, NSFW states that the content shouldn't be watched at Work for your own safety. Might I ask if that implicitly announces that watching anime or normal pictures of anime at work is not a scorn-able offence?

I'm simply asking for people to state their opinions on the point being raised in this thread, if NSFW is a badly made statement.

I'm not proposing a change, I'm just proposing a "coming clean" with this acronym we know and love.

Watching anime or normal pictures of anime at work: Not doing what you're supposed to be doing at that specific time.

NSFW: Looking at things that might not be socially acceptable, at least publicly. You normally wouldn't be looking at porn or gory slashers out in public, would you?

TBT NSFW means diffrent things in different places, in some countries (india, most islamic countries, the USA church belt) a drawing with little female nudity can be a BIG problem; IMO we latinos and europeans are more lenient. Of course there are other kind of NSFW picures with different implications depending of te culture of the place you live.

If these words are at a risk to you, then you really shouldn't be looking. Pervert!

If you're caught at work reading an internet forum, or using facebook, your boss might be a bit annoyed or disappointing, but you're not going to get fired or anything.

If you're caught looking at pornographic (or borderline pornographic) images, then what's simply a mild misdemeanor (after all, who doesn't goof off occasionally), becomes something altogether more serious (IE you could get fired...).

Which is why certain images are labeled NSFW

I was under the impression that NSFW was not safe for work because people would judge you badly if they saw you viewing it. If your coworkers see you using Facebook or something, its just you goofing off. If they catch you watching porn, you're screwed even if you aren't reported then fired.

I always thought NSFW is similar to Spoiler...Guess I'm wrong, but they may both contain pics disturbing to the "not emotionallly prepared" people.
