Hotarubi no Mori e [Movie]

Release Date: September 17, 2011

Genre: Slice of life, romance

Animation Production: Brain's Base

Website: http://www.hotarubi.info/

I've just finished watching this short film, about 45 minutes or so. It was pretty interesting. The very brief synopsis as follows:
The story of Hotarubi no Mori e centres around Hotaru, a little girl who gets lost in an enchanted forest where apparitions reside. A young boy, Gin, appears before Hotaru..............

Yes it is. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

edit: Since it hasn't been licensed in North America....., Commie-fansub has it subbed.

That aside the nature-loving me truly appreciated the approach taken into to draw the greenery and the soft color pallet used to define the mood of the story. The several piano score helped tremendously as well. I've listened to the ending song several times already just for the piano score alone which was played several times through out the movie.

This was a beautiful piece. So much emotion in just 40 minutes packed into it, more than most series can do in an entire season. Absolutely loved it.

I was waiting for Natsume and Nyanko-sensei to show up and they never did.

Just watched it. Well here's my early nomination for Best Drama/Romance of 2012 AS Awards folks. It's going to incredibly hard to beat this for me. It was absolutely brilliant and this was neither too cheesy or melodramatic, though the ending was quite sad . Nonetheless, much emotion and thought was put into this 40minute OVA/movie/piece or whatever format it is. Instant favorite, though my gripe is that it was too short .

9/10

Certainly nostalgic... I first came across this like around 5 years ago, with DV's scanslation. And it was as heartbreaking now as it was back then, considering I'm awfully fond of the childhood friends trope. So highly recommend to anyone who liked this to read the entire book of short stories, as they're all of comparable quality in terms of romance.

(Which is why I wonder why the direction of Natsume Yuujinchou... would've loved it if it had something I can ship for, but I digress. )

Wasn't too involved in this, but that ending is surely a punch to the gut. I was thinking, "are they gonna continue this?" Holy crap, oh... sad ending indeed.

Good movie.

Wow. I have to say that was one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful pieces of anime I have ever seen.

Spoiler for how I thought it might end...:

I have to admit I was in tears by the end.

This was a thing of beauty, and no mistake.

Needless to say, that was lovely. Everything that would later become Natsume Yuujinchou, in concentrated form.

With Mirodikawa it’s always about choices – the choices we make to open our hearts and accept what comes with it, or to remain closed and pay a different price. Midorikawa-san is a real visionary – her worldview is unique, full of optimism and an urge to accept all the wonders of the universe, but also an understanding about the pain that only comes from opening your heart to others.

It was really good but I was hoping there would be more to it than that. It had the potential to be so much more.

Well...I suppose that's why there's Natsume Yuujinchou.

This is a very nice movie O_O.

The pacing is a little bit fast, but I think it nicely convey the emotion behind it even with this pacing, so no complaint for me there.

Animation is nicely done for a relatively little known title anime like this one(which means relatively lower budget than let's say, Ghibli movie). Two thumbs up for me on that part.

The soundtrack is also one of this movie's shining point. Hope they will release an OST of this movie in the future.

Story wise, this movie is definitely better than 80% of the anime airing nowadays.

Overall, a 9.9/10 for me(-0.1 for being a little bit too short, but actually that's just an excuse from me because I don't want to give a perfect score :P)

Lovely short film. Even though the ending was expected, it still hit me. Initially I disliked how it happened but afterwards, I think it made the ending all the more fitting and better.

It was very emotional, I failed to cry because it was pretty obvious, the whole foreshadowing about humans going into a crowded festival.

Nevertheless, an excellent movie, very fitting piano melody too in the scenes.
