There's a reason why I go for the sensei/nurses in games anymore.

Speaking of the sensei, does she look like she could pass off as Yukino's elder sister? When I first saw her that was what I thought.

It's a romantic comedy. It's pretty much a given that if there's a homeroom teacher who has any lines, she's hot, and she's single. :P
It's essentially its own trope, but I haven't seen a name for it yet.

She does seem prone to enforce her will physically.

Christmas Cake is the term you're looking for.

Anyway, I have some questions, but it seems it's best if I go to the LN thread.

For some reason this is one of my favorite quotes I've read on Asuki in the recent months.

I kind of wanted to make a joke about how she's dealt with the MC and her admitting that the "sanatorium" reference was apt, but then I realized something...

She's actually a pretty shrewd character and she's quite nice. Somehow I suspect that her character is single not because she can't find an SO, but because she's yet to be truly satisfied by anyone she's found thus far. That is to say, I don't see any reason why sensei wouldn't have been in the same boat as Hiki when she was his age. They're very similar, and so I think she's just very picky.

I have these mixed feelings with how the anime staff took out her shounen fanaticism & popular references.

Aside from being "handsome", Yukino & Shizuka aren't really alike. Also Sensei doesn't looks like Yukino's sister.

That's why I love her. She'll be a great complement to me.

Yukino is a bit like Yozora and there's the premise of trying to connect social outcasts to the real world, but that's about as far as both shows go in terms of things in common. Yozora was just sort of a bitch for the sake of acting like a bitch (for her own personal reasons) where Yukino is more of a social anomaly and is just sort of an unintentionally blunt person. Hikki is nothing like Kodaka and if having a naturally scary/yakuza-like face is the only point of comparison, various other romcoms have such a protagonist.
I have only one problem with your (overaly very on spot) evaluation. Hikki doesn't have "naturaly scary face" instead his always angry and annoyed expression is result of his "roten soul".

And I would add that biggest difference is in that Hikki tried to lead fulfilling youth but failed and got bitter as result as opposing to Kodaka who use his face as excuse to never try.

Even now Hikki is twice of man that Kodaka ever will. And possibly as well as most of romantic genre protagonists.

Depends. Do you know everything about Kodaka to make such a judgement?

Nope. There is still quite a bit to look into what makes Kodaka Kodaka. Making such hasty conclusions is not really a good thing.

Second episode was worse that the first, but not at all horrible.

It's pretty clear that snappy dialogue is going to be this show's strong point. That initial classroom scene was fairly engaging, albeit awkward to watch (which was likely the point, I presume). The second half wasn't as appealing, but watching the three of them pick apart the poor guy's light novel was fun in a sadistic sort of way.

I'm just just curious to see where Yukino and Hachiman's clash of ideologies winds up by the end it all.

I actually found Zaimokuza a very compelling character. Probably, even after he outgrows his Chuunibyou, odds are, he would retain his flair for the dramatic, and would be known as a heavy-set but hearty bro. So long, of course, as outgrowing his Chuunibyou does not remove that kind of bombast he posses. Really, I think had he not indicated he was Chuunibyou with his words, my impression of him would have been a very vivacious person with a strong force of personality.

The soul of a writer indeed….. I wonder if the author based him on someone he knew….

More characterization in 12 minutes, than the cast of Chuunibyou in 12 episodes may be a bridge too far to claim, but there's something of this character that feels so vividly and convincingly alive.

He's often described as a character with "dead fish eyes." I just assumed that this was a given visible trait, though unlike characters like Kodaka from Haganai and Ryuuji from Toradora, it seems to be less central to his outer appearance and is noticed less by the surrounding world.
