San Diego Comic Con thread

The CC is a week away, and I seriously cannot wait to attend this year. Lots of stars coming down for this one, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jessica Alba, Keanu Reeves, and Jude Law to name a few.

I'm gonna see if I can buy some original art off Jim Lee, and Paul Linsley, like have em' draw me an arm or something for 5 bucks.

The CC film festival looks pretty good too, with 50 films being sumitted. This one really caught my eye:

Quote:
All Babes Want to Kill Me— A Martial Artist with a rare disease that makes beautiful women want to kill him goes on a suicide mission to find true love anyway.
That looks like a classic, I need to check that out.

But yeah, comic is gonna break my wallet, and my bank account.

Ummm... that avatar... is the green guy dead?

(*hides in fear as her necrophobia kicks into high gear*)

And as for that supposedly rare disease of the Martial Artist's, it's not as rare as you think...

I'm going too!

There are indeed girls at this Comic-Con thing - it's not just American comics.

That film sounds pretty good - I think I might actually check it out.

Hey waddaya know Im going too =P Im going on Sunday though. Thats when I get in free MUWAHHAHAHA ~!

Comic-Con is mostly all about the vendors. In terms of size, Comic-Con is Huge. The San Diego Convention center is pretty big and they make use of all of the floor. It takes about 2 hours of walking around to cover all the areas and thats not including stopping and looking at stuff. This is a good Con to goto to "Buy" stuff. In terms of cosplay and what not its not that great. The con basically boils down to half of it being DC/Marvel comics blah blah, and Anime. Not a bad mix if i say so myself ^^.

You know I will.

And I hope to see everyone that is going on Saturday/Sunday~! My friends and I will be leaving on Friday, but I doubt we'll actually go that day. But Saturday and Sunday, we'll be wandering and throwing money at people.

Btw, even though this is slightly off topic (still comic related) I came across this trailer, its a film based on Robin from DC, I would pay to see this independent fan film over Catwoman anyday. EXELLENT TRAILER, seeing Green Latern and Superman like that almost brought a tear to my eye.

Question San Diego Comic Con Question

I'm going to the San Diego Comic-Con this year and was looking for consensus on possible Anime screenings to check out. My friends and I don't usually hit up the Anime rooms much anymore, but I wanted to see if there were any titles playing this year that might be interesting.

Here's a link to the Thursday schedule with additional links to the other days. There's also information about Anime and Manga specific programming linked from that page, so if anyone thinks there's something special there, let me know.

Evening and night time screenings on Thursday might be beneficial, but it would have to be afternoon or early evening on Friday and Saturday unless they're something truly important (Friday and Saturday nights are the all important drinking nights.

Thanks in advance.

Comic Con (san diego)

Any of you going? Unfortunately for me, everything is sold out, at least according to the news.

Ah, San Diego, what a beautiful place to have a comic con... which will probably be indoors.

Alas, I cannot go. I live in Indiana, which is a bit of a stretch. Maybe I'll go if comic con comes to the midwest someday, but unfortunately, San Diego is way too far for me.

Got my ticket for Sunday. I've been going to the Con for years, and last year was the first time they ever sold out. It just gets bigger and bigger.

It's definitely worth the trip, since you can get a LOT of free stuff, see tons of celebs, try out the newest video games and watch exclusive trailers/previews. Some advice for new visitors:

- register EARLY. like months in advance. tickets are going like hotcakes now.
- you can bring a backpack (and they don't check it for some reason), so include the following:

- a homemade lunch (food is EXPENSIVE)
- some energy drinks (the exhibit floor is HUGE and it gets exhausting)
- portable game system/book/etc. for the wait in line

- read the schedule they give you and plan your itinerary on the spot. the place gets PACKED around noon and you literally will not have room to breathe
- if you have money, bring it. the Con has tons of stuff you probably won't find anywhere else
- bring a camera with you, lots of cosplayers abound

Most, if not all of the major announcements hit the web, but trust me, being there is something you have to experience at least once, especially if you're an anime/manga fan.

I wish I could go on Saturday just to see the craziness at the Tite Kubo panel. The crowd is going to be nuts

They're doing a Superman/Batman movie... but that's not the big news:

"Man of Steel director Zack Snyder just came out and rocked our worlds at
Comic-Con. Not just announcing that Batman will be in the Superman sequel —
which he did with a cool-looking metallic Superman-Batman logo that drove the
crowd nuts. But that was not the biggest deal.

Spoilers ahead..."

The Space Battles in Ender's Game Will Make Your Eyeballs Explode:

"Yesterday afternoon we saw a new trailer for Ender's Game, during a panel at
Comic-Con, and it showcased some seriously epic war scenes. Director Gavin
Hood, with stars Harrison Ford and Asa Butterfield, discussed this long-awaited
movie about a boy bred to lead Earth's forces against a mysterious alien enemy."

Comic-Con: Mark Hamill Says 'I Can't Walk the Floor Anymore':

"Mark Hamill was 19 in 1970, when the first Comic-Con was held in San Diego in a
cramped room at The US Grant hotel.

But by the time he made his pilgrimage with Star Wars, the actor -- who’d by then
guest-starred on shows like Eight Is Enough and One Day at a Time -- had turned
a childhood love for comic books into an obsession. He was a convention-cult
geek who, pre-fame, expertly haggled dealers from $40 to $20 for a 1958
Adventure Comics #247. (It's the debut of the Legion of Super-Heroes.)

“Now it’s worth north of $10,000,” says Hamill, who throws nothing away. “The
conventions were tiny. It was not mainstream at all. If you wanted to attract
girls, you kept the fact that you liked all this stuff to yourself. I remember 10 or 15
comic dealers in the basement of the Ambassador Hotel, with a 16 mm projector
to show old Flash Gordon and Captain Marvel serials. I went one time to see the
silent Lost World. There was a great sense of adventure and fun, much more
underground. When San Diego Comic-Con got 5,000 people, we were amazed.”
(Expect 140,000 in attendance this year.) Adds Hamill: “The makeshift gathering
of fans transmogrified into a corporate trade show. I can’t walk the floor
anymore. I've been trapped by this merchandising thing.” Once he appeared on
the floor in disguise, with a big beard, and went unrecognized by fans. "That
lasted about two and a half hours.""
