Did just saw the first episode and thought it was quite good. Was a bit too fast paced though.

It was quite nice to see that they used the game BGM as well as the TOYS sound effect. I wonder if they will release more episodes since there was some foreshadowing.

Quite mean of the girls to invade Kobayashi's room in the end say to him to sleep in the attic.

It was well made, and everything was still recognizable, but I prefer the unpredictable chaos of the TV series. It's simply more to my tastes.

Expanded version of the above.

It will be shown on a event on December the 9th.
It will also be sold on DVD and Blu-ray on January the 9th.

It was nice seeing Milky Holmes being more competent than they ever were during the TV series. Even when they did have their Toys in the TV series, it was mostly a direct confrontation with the Gentlemen Thieves and little to no mystery solving on their part. Seeing them deduce who the culprit was in this OVA was a nice change of pace.

However, I can't help but feel that this is something that would be better in its original VN format. Since the girls really know what they're doing, there's little point to Opera Kobayashi. It was normally his job as the protagonist in the first PSP VN to solve the mystery and direct the girls to use their power during appropriate situations during "The Chase". If the girls already know when to use their powers, Kobayashi doesn't have much of a role.

The entire Alternative saga is perhaps best watched as a one-hour special. And that's how it's being released on DVD. Now, I will admit there were some pretty cool sequences in this story - the part where everyone's Toys combined to have the plane launch in time so they could stop the egg from hatching was pretty nice teamwork. Having Elly throw an entire plane (with passengers) into the sky is something that never really happened in the TV series. The stakes were high, and the mystery was compiled together in a compelling way.

But as with many detective stories, it's not really about the detectives themselves. Milky Holmes (and to some degree, Kobayashi) are there to solve the case, but this is really Lily's story, and she's completely different from Irene Doala in the series proper. Which makes me wonder what the relationship between the two is - a possible idea for a future fanfic. I still like the TV series more because we know more about the girls themselves and Arsene, and it's a lot funnier, but the Alternative duology shows a different side of Milky Holmes that I'm glad also got animated. Everybody wins.

(Still all in favor of a Milky Holmes S3, should the idea come to light.)
