Your comment sounds like yandere alert.
I start to think this VR online game is scary. It can sends false signal to the players' nervous system. So, player can feel pain, taste and warmth. The, what's the point of going to school. They would waste time on commute and break time.

I'm curious about Sky Raker's legs. How does her avatar not regenerate her legs? Is it because her real body lost her legs so it translate to the Accel World? I'm starting to wonder how she actually lost her legs in real life too. I'm hoping she didn't cripple herself on purpose just so she can fly in a VR game...

Better not to think about it too much. So far... I've noticed that Kawahara Reki often comes up with something weird in his "virtual worlds" it's just best to sum it up as "it's his world" on the bright side most of these weird things are trivial to the plot anyway.

It gets explained later, the anime won't get to it I don't think.

Well, there could always be the far-fetched possibility that after she had her legs chopped off, she never died since then in the unlimited field; hence, staying in the current form.

For Haru the hole in his heart due to constantly feeling like he was beneath everyone else, was filled with his wish to fly above everyone else. For Sky Raker, lack of legs lead her to desire to be able to jump higher than anyone else. For Chiyu, I'm guessing the scars she's felt from being unable to stop her friends from separating lead her to desire the ability to heal wounds and restore things back to normal. For Noumi, I'm guessing he filled his hole with jealousy and a desire to have what others have, hence his ability to steal other people's ability.
It also shows that all linkers need therapy except for DT. He needs a prison sentence instead.

Now then, Haru mentioned he expected this kind of Spartan training. Does that mean KYH is Sink or Swim Mentor because Haru also mentioned that KYH can make US drill instructor pale in coparison to her in episode 13.

DT is the 1 who really needs therapy

The Incarnate System was probably involved when Black Lotus cut off Sky Raker's legs in order to be permanent.

...And I think the answer to this is in episode 5, when Kuroyukihime reveals herself. Could be wrong though

From all we know, she *did* cripple herself on purpose (or rather, had Kuroyukihime do it) in an attempt to be able to fly. As it was all in vain and she still couldn't fly, I think she lost all hope, which resulted in her staying in her crippled state and not regenerating her legs. Because she's in no form anymore to fight others that way, she went into isolation in a remote location.
It could be that later on, she might regain her hope again (e.g. after talking with Kuroyukihime), and then also regenerate her legs as a consequence, and perhaps even join the Black Legion.

I know it's pretty late and people are prolly done discussing but I'll just say that this incarnate system is like the ultimate asspull by Kawahara Reki. It's like opening the floodgates of solving everything through willpower which sounds incredibly cheesy. From here on onwards if something unbelievable happens we can just point to the incarnate system and say "hooray to willpower."

I think in AW the concept of sacrificing something is different than losing it through battle. How much of a sacrifice would it really be if she just had her legs cut off, only to have them come back when she logs back in?
I think it's something like, if you lose a limb or something in battle it will come back afterward but if you sacrifice them (possibly using Incarnate System) in order to gain new powers then you'll probably be unable regenerate that which is lost.

It makes sense really...otherwise people would just sacrifice things left and right mid battle and THEN it would be true asspulling.

So do you think Haru redeemed himself this episode or do you still think he's terrible

I'm not really talking about sky raker's legs though. I mean the incarnate system itself just screams "major asspull tool" that the author can just refer to everytime a dubious development goes on. Winning fights through immense willpower is so used in shounen shows that many just roll their eyes now when we get the willpower treatment(I still cannot forget Yumekui Merry's last episode) then we get this incarnate system introduced. Is Kawahara Reki preparing us for major asspulls later on?

It's basically hacking xD

And everyone can do it. So yeah, it'll probably be used in odd ways in the future.

Well, I think they basically already prepared us for this particular "asspull" at the very start of the show when they made clear that, though Haru was pudgy and weak in the real world, his avatar in the virtual world had top scores on that game (that required major speed and dexterity). So, to me, this already essentially conveys the same thing that the Incarnate system now conveys: that your strength in the online world is based in the mind and not constrained by physical reality. The only thing the Incarnate System adds to this is that it makes clear that the rules/confines of the game world itself are also not constrained by fixed rules... but in practical terms, I'm not sure just how much of a difference it makes, particularly given that everyone's special moves/powers seem to be unique to their character and are revealed whenever it's convenient for the storytelling.

But yes, all in all, because this is virtual reality and not "real life", it does certainly open the door for a lot of fights won through "extreme willpower", because it's not as if physical strength was ever a real factor. It really is all in the mind.

I'm not sure why this bothers you so much.

Will power being the key to victories in most shounen shows bothers people because it often just doesn't make sense - All the will power in the real world isn't going to literally double a guy's physical strength or speed capabilities for example.

But in a VR world, it makes sense for will power, a "well-focused mind", and simple imagination, to count for a lot, imo.

What we're now seeing here in Accel World is not all that much different than what we saw in The Matrix movies.

I do admit that it breaks the system a bit, although not totally. At the very least, it seems to be a case that it takes a lot of will power/imagination to truly master the incarnate system.

It is kind of needed in order to differentiate between why the high levels are so much more powerful than the lower levels. Also, almost every shounen show has some sort of will power ability in it to get things done. This is no different.

I'm thinking that maybe KYH has an ability, similar to how Dusk Taker takes things, which allows her to permanently sever things.

I don't know about you guys but I'd rather have the game continue with rules set in stone rather than throw the rules away out of the window it makes things easier to understand and at least give us some protection from dubious developments. Like I said with this incarnate system, if something odd happens now we just point to it and blame the system which is kinda meh.

@relentlessflame

Eh I don't think so really. I mean just look at the current games we have now. Even if you're "fat and weak" you can be totally good with them. I don't see how we are prepared for this system.

@thundrakkon

Eh you can just chalk up high lvls being more powerful than low lvls with the lvl difference and skill. I'd rather have it chalk it up to skill than willpower.

@triple_r

Well if you put it that way I can see your point but I still can't help but roll my eyes with this development. Would have liked it more if we stayed with the games with a set rule course than than veering to the matrix course. =/

The author wrote himself a bit into a corner with Haru (especially considering last episode), so I guess something like this was neccessary to get Haru back on track again, even if it does scream "asspull".

Actually it wasn't that big a secret....considering the thing plugs direct to your brain...

Overriding the existing program with your own Neuro Linker should always theoretically be possible. Is just the same concept as game hacking.

In other news....OMG Raker is love. Seeing her animated is....*heart stops*
