I think they were giving it a handwave that he was exhausted from rowing the nice boat.

From a military standpoint, the most efficient carrying method is the fireman carry position. Back carrying and princess cradle are kinda stupid in terms of stability and energy usage. Drama strikes again.

I may be wrong but when you see that scene again when Yuuya offered the back-carry to Yui, she kinda covered her breast and hesitated. Yuuya, who saw her like that, thought she didn’t like the fireman-carry (you know why, don’t you? ), thus go with the princess-cradle instead. So yeah, I think it’s not done for efficiency purposes, but Yuuya gave Yui some slack.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. Girls in anime tend to be much easier to charm for a variety of reasons.

Brings me to wonder whether this might be creating unrealistic expectations among otakus!

Having had a history of week ankles and a great many sprains as a child, I don't see anything wrong with Yui spraining her ankle that way. If she'd gotten it wrapped up it wouldn't have been too bad, but then she tried walking it off, which wasn't a very good idea...

Then again, the only things they cpuld have used as makeshift bandages would have been Yuuya's shorts or her swimsuit, so yeah

Also, strangely enough, I kinda think Yui's competition swimsuit has more appeal than Cryska's bikini, despite showing less skin.

Also, I'm a little tickled that my prediction of a life and death situation bringing Yuuya and Yui together came true, though I was thinking more of a crash in the Alaskan wilderness.

Just like in the movies & books, anime girls being "easy" depends on the anime itself. Don't believe me? Look at Motoko Kusanagi or Levy. Do they look "easy" to you?

I also thought the same as you at first... but then Chryska had a trouble breathing..

Anyway, it's a good episode. I guess this is the first step of Yuuya's love life?

Actually, no matter what position he tried, they still touched... Fireman carry could have been done for Cryska though.

On the issue of ankles, I'll just say that the human body, however well-trained you make it, is still much more fragile than you would think. Death is just a small fall away, much less a sprain.

As for Yui warming up to Yuuya, I'll chalk half of it towards the suspension bridge effect.

Yui was at an utmost level of emotional weakness, born from mixed feelings of self-disappointment ( following the bridges-burning incident with Argos Flight, her injury, etc ) as well as the PTSD-ish nightmare of her front-line experiences. Furthermore, she has no avenue to let out her feelings on this matter since she... clearly has no friends or drinking buddies to talk about the less-offensive moments with the team. I mean, even Yuuya has Vincent to be honest about stuff he's not in front of Yui.

In that moment, she's got Yuuya ( whom she's grooming to be her ideal husband test Eishi ) with her, and well... he's being a gentleman to the most that he can. Nevermind the fact that she's pretty much locked onto Yuuya for a lot of different reasons, so he's a lot on her mind.

I mean, Yui herself was at a complete disbelief that her question to Yuuya was about 'his relationship with Cryska.' While I don't think she did it purely out of the heat of the situation, it was probably half irrational.

As for the other half... Top Gun Pheromones.

Good episode for relationship development. These two finally start to warm up to each other. But I'm waiting for more battles here...
I would love to see the drama when one of them dies

Well, the current Berserk cast is sticking together, and Berserk Armor + Dragon Slayer = BETA killer! If you played the PS2 game of Berserk, imagine him going one on one against the Tank and Destroyer class... Gutz does it for a living...

motoko is easy man, she'd do anything even nukes.

enough offtopic for now, back to the episode I was thinking on the fireman carry, do they even use it on anime for regualr situations, I remember only seeing it used when the girl is behaving badly so it's used as a carry method in which the man overpowers the girl. I'd so fireman carry cryska, tho.

So, about the peeping warning. Anyone ever wondered why a grown-up US soldier would blush over sight of cleavage?

LOL I meant easy to impress/charm/blush (like zeth006 meant before), not that kind of "easy" . Just to mention my other example: in Black Lagoon, Rock literally had to bet his life by taking a bullet from Levy which miss within a centimeter of his head just to impress her. Now that's what I meant by not being "easy".

Compared to those, Yui is still "medium" which is good enough for me in a show like this.

Yep, thought it was very un-American of Yuuya.

{meta-level cynical sarcasm} Because he's the lead character in a series of light novels being marketed to Japanese otaku who probably would blush, too, if they ever got a chance to see that much cleavage IRL? {/meta-level cynical sarcasm}

Or he's just a young and innocent guy who was socially withdrawn as a teenager and young adult due to anti-Japanese prejudice and thus has little to no experience with spontaneous displays like that, combined with the fact that the whole reason he was knocking on Stella's door in the first place was that he was trying to prevent her from being leered at.

Incidentally, how old are Yuuya, Yui, Cryska, and Inia supposed to be? Yui can't be much more than a teenager herself, given that it's only three years since she was in schoolgirl-cadet-training.

A very odd episode. It's clear from watching this that TE isn't even attempting to get anything correct with regard to the military culture and training.

Yuuya and Yui basically did everything wrong in their "rescue" of Cryska. No need to get into details, but the most appalling thing was Yuuya leaving his boatmate (forget his name) ALONE! That should never happen.

For Yui, a bit random that she starts to care for Yuuya after he shows competence and concern for a fellow pilot (Cryska) since she has previously witnessed Yuuya exhibit both without it affecting her. But I guess the princess carry conquers all reason.

The worst bit of writing was the set-up for the princess carry, however. It's fine that Yui sprains her ankle; it happens. But that she can't even walk because of it? C'mon, she's tougher than that.
