Suggest me, "Sad, adult shoujo type"

So I'm new here, I dont have much of an introduction, but I can tell you why I randomly joined this forum.

I had googled "Sad animes" just to find something new that I hadnt seen before(dont lie ppl I know you all have done it x.x) .. anyways this site poped up a lot which a short anime list that made me quite sad... the list contained these animes.

Kanon
Clanned
Elfen Lied (not sad)
Air (more confusing then sad)
Grave of the fireflies

That was basically it, a few more that werent even remotely sad I wont even mention.

I really would like to see some good anime suggestions that are a sad adult shoujo type... I liked...

Fushigi yuugi (absolute favourite anime of all time, havnt seen an anime yet to date to top it for me)
Pretear
Fruits Basket
Vampire knight + Guilty (kinda sad in the end)
Lovely Complex
Peach Girl
This ugly yet Beautiful world....

I can't think of much more right now, but there is a good list :P

First, you might want to browse this thread: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=113807

I'll second Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 from the list there. It's officially "seinen" though I don't think any of those categories are especially meaningful. It doesn't have any romance, though, if that's what you're looking for.

Just a note -- "shoujo" refers to manga and anime that appear in magazines aimed at 10-17 year-old girls; the term for works designed for adult women is "josei." Many shows that have aired in the noitaminA slot fall into that category.

I'd definitely give Sola a try. Sad doesn't begin to do it justice.

I would say Princess Tutu (has a similar feel to Pretear) would be perfect for you. I'd also recommend Red Garden.

Whatever you do, don't watch True tears. Most boring anime ever created.

Also, I agree Nana is a good choice.

I will always second a recommendation for Princess Tutu. It's more uplifting than sad though and it's for a younger audience but it's a must see for anyone who loves Shoujo.

Don't let the fact that there are monsters deter you from Red Garden. It is still primarily focused on how being forced to fight changes them and their relationships.
