Anime with non-japanese MC?

I was talking to a non-otaku friend and he asked if anime had non-japanese characters.
I told him that yes but then he wanted me to tell him animes with black or hispanic main characters.

The only one I could think of was Afro Samurai. Can you name more animes with main characters who aren't caucasian or asian?

Yes, but Rock and Revy are the main characters and Dutch is more of a secondary one. I'm looking for one where the black person or south american is the main character

Vash the Stampede from Trigun?

I think the entire cast of Baccano! fits that requirement as well.

Uhmmm...How about Ah My Goddess? It has a main female character who is black. Here's the picture

I would also suggest School Rumble. The main male character is black. Here's the picture for it as well.

Urd is not Black (ie African). She is half-demon- and a Nord, ie: Scandinavian.

I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure that character in School Rumble is not black either, I think he's Japanese.

I can't think of any Black or Hispanic main characters. I can think of several secondary or support characters, but not main characters.

Gundam 00:
The main character is a pure middle-eastern boy called Soran Ibrahim but code-named as Setsuna F. Seiei. He's a grown-up in the 2nd Season of 00 and his skin was shown a little bit more dark-brownish than the previous season.

They're definitely on the rare side. The Japanese seem to have a huge boner for Caucasians, and it's rare to see a Black MC, and even rarer to see Latinos at all.

If I had to pick one show, I guess it'd be:

Michiko to Hatchin

Manglobe did a lot of things different. First off, making a Latino MC is almost unheard of, and when it does occur, is usually far less in your face about it. Throw in lots of Brazilian music, and eschewing voice actresses for actual screen actors for the main roles. Though, to be fair, Michiko is only one of the MCs. The other is Hatchin, who's about as white looking as you can get.

I can't speak for the Japanese, but I know in western fandom circles, this show was largely ignored when it came out, and I can't help but feel that it was partly due to an inherent bigotry among a fanbase far more comfortable with certain racial/physical characteristics of most mainstream anime characters.

Definitely one of the more under-appreciated anime to come out of Japan in the last decade.

Definitely Michiko to Hatchin.

There is also Sakura Wars New York with one of the main characters, Sagiitta, being and African-American.

A very major set of brother and sister are both black in Revolutionary Girl Utena, though Utena isn't black, but they are probably the most important characters in the series besides her.

His name is Kenji Harima, he's 100% Japanese.

She can work. Her true ethnicity is fictional but she is by canon considered black by the western people she meets.

Now finding anime with black and hispanic as main characters is really hard.
Non caucasian or asian is a little easier.

There's the recent "Magi - The Labyrinth of Magic" whose characters are likely middle estern given the fact they are based on One Thousand and One Nights caracters.

It's a pity they never made an anime out of the "El Viento" trilogy since the main character "Annet" is peruvian.

How about giving El Cazador de la Bruja a shot ? The story is supposed to take place in Latin America, just like Michiko e Hatchin.

What about Sailor Pluto from Sailor Moon. I don't know where she is from specifically but I don't think she is Caucasian or Asian.

She's not the main character of course but she is one of the heroes.

I guess the OP really wants a main character and not just one of the heroes. Else Cyborg 009 main cast has people from every corner of the world including an African and a Native American.

Well not enitely accurate but the real MC of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon S2 was a certain Western ninja, and a pair of Spanish couple.

Can be counted as Hispanic, i suppose?
