quite a powerful first episode, not much to say, much has been said already from the thread. I see why this is quite popular. will be watching this.

ahhahah let's not go there, it will just ruin the great mood of the first episode. I would take this same as I did GuP Oversized carriers, just take it as is, and try to rein in one's scientific brain a bit. I mean considering square inverse law,( why whales the biggest animals live in the sea), that the titans bleed(meaning they have a heart & circulatory system)& they eat, and as you say they seem to be anatomically "correct". That the recon group all seems to have the agility of spiderman, and wow such high tech gear ( that's not reflected in their other equipment), than can instantly connect & disconnect from a surface at will, at the end of a long wire, and such High powered batteries to power the winch too ...(- still I liked the part in the opening where there were hundreds of them jumping up over the town at the same time) That they're capable of building gigantic walls...( oh who was protecting the builders from the titans while they were building them?)

oops WAIT!!!! I said i wasn't going to think ....... >.<

Let's just say that your points will actually be addressed later in the story, and no, there are no batteries :P

A question... Why are there (perfectly intact) houses outside of the walls?

There were a times where people live outside of the wall until the appearance of titan...strange to say that those titan only attack human...they don't go after poultry like cows or horses and they don`t go damaging property around.

Correct. This show has a lot of mysteries, many of which are still not resolved yet even in the source material. Manga readers, please refrain from spilling the beans. There's a lot of great stuff coming soon and it's going to be fun watching all the new people see it in action.

Well that was fun (for a certain definition of fun). Hannes trying to be a hero was also darkly comedic. I expect a lot from this series because the manga is great and the first episode didn't disappoint. I hope the following episodes will be just as great. And will they adapt one chapter per episode?

It will be about 1-1.5 chapters per episode....there are some chapters that can be drag pretty long depending on how the animation want to showcase it.

Just finished ep1. Really interesting... the only thing that bothers me is the same whiny seiyuu for Eren. Getting tired of him and his whiny voice <_<

In any case from the basic premise I'd just go ahead and throw a bit speculation of my own... since I don't think this story will involve aliens and alternate dimensions my speculation regarding titans would be some sort of unknown disease which is to say the titans are actually sick humans. I mean if they actually did exist at the same time as humans then I doubt they would have progressed their civilization that far so these titans probably suddenly came out from nowhere so the question is how? The easiest I can come up with is an unknown disease or man made virus from an experiment gone wrong.

I think this was a pretty incredible first episode. Great sense of tension throughout and some legitimately horrifying moments, from that hand reaching up over the wall with the whole town looking on, to the brutal events at the end. The giants feel to me like a major leap into the uncanny valley, being human-like while also not, and watching them eat people is downright chilling. Of all the series I have started so far this season, this looks to be the most promising by far. Cannot wait to see where it goes from here.

That did not disappoint. Very strong start. It's been a while since I last saw such a despair-inducing first episode. It's only the beginning of the series and it already feels like the humans are completely screwed.
Production values are very high as expected, and the plot appears to be more intriguing than I initially thought it would be. This episode raised a lot of questions, like where the titans came from, how the humans managed to build the walls, etc....

As for the characters, I can already tell Mikasa is going to be my favorite. Loved that scene when the three bullies ran away right after seeing her. You can tell she's a badass.

Excellent first episode! It's been a while since I've been hooked by a show's first episode. This has moved from my "maybe I'll watch" list to my "definitely watch" list. Can't wait for more!

I actually don't really care much about the sitation. Seems the subject of giants and titans are more popular with westerners. I read a bit of the manga, and after watching the first episode, I think I wait for the blu-rays and hope that it isn't censored and we can see all the vore in its full glory.

I planned to watch this when I saw the PV... when episode aired I had no time to watch it and then stumbled on all those over hyped reviews screaming "It is SAO of this year" what served as a big push away since SAO sucked a lot in my opinion...

Glad I went with my first impulse and watched the episode. It was great and creepy! Hope it'll keep it up and that all SAO comparisons stop here.

Regardless of the opinion on SAO, the only reason they got that rather shallow comparison is that both Shingeki no Kyojin and Sword Art Online are adaptations with A LOT of HYPE. Otherwise, they don't have that much in common.

As to the first episode, now that was some of most beautiful animation I've seen this season, which only serves to enhance the utter DESPAIR that the episode portrays.

Ep 1

Okay, I'm a bit confused here about the setting, is this post-apocalyptic version of the modern world, or pure fantasy?

Aside for that, extremely good first episode! Especially the last scene, just absolute gripping. Very little in the way complaint maybe save for Mikasa being ridiculous strong to throw Eren like that. Well, it certainly explains why the bullies are afraid of her at least.

Some bit of theory time; I'm guess Hannes chickened out of the fight with the titan because it was some new unknown type he had never seen before. That's only reason I could think for the titans to ignore this settlement for 100 years than sudden attack.

That girl titan is just a regular. Hannes chickened out, because its freaking terrifying to consciously make yourself fight a thing many times bigger than you. He didn't have it in him to attack, so he choose flight, and took the kids and ran.
